I've suggested this in the past (more airships).
The only issues complicating this, that I see, are related to the airships flying over each zone:
* You can actually see the airships if you look up at the right time when they'd be passing over a zone. If there is a tiny airship model that flies by, it would not be difficult to add another on a different schedule. When on the airship, to keep things realistic, they'd likely have to add the other airship passing by at the middle of the trip. They would not need to let us see passengers on the deck of the passing airship (that, I could see being a problem)
* Also, there is at least one quest involving an NM crawler that only appears when an Airship takes off from Port Jeuno, in Rolanberry fields. It's not a horrible thing if this NM appeared more often.
These are small considerations, though, given the impact it has on player travel times and enjoyment of the game.
Also, I understand that in today's culture, subways and trains in real life are accepted parts of everyday life and the wait time on the Airships may be "accepted" as part of normal travel in the same way; never-the-less, I'd add the option of "instant flight" VIP tickets like FFXII if only because this is a game and people have limited amounts of time to organize and gather to get their real goals accomplished.
An alternate method of making airships more convenient: Allow us to own an airship!
Special ports:
* the Tenshodo port in Lower Jeuno (stairs leading down past the Galka)
* the special Tavnazian port in the safehold
* the extra dock further past the main dock in San d'Oria
* a warp taru in Windurst could warp you aboard your ship
* an underground path to the airship by taking a fast moving rail-boat from Zeruhn Mines.
* the roped off tunnel in Norg, leading to the undead ship.
* the roped off tunnel in Kazham could go to a secluded lagoon port.
* aerial drop-off over Aht Urhgan's leypoint (it's still dangerous to fly over there)
* Sureal's suggestion of Selbina and Mhuara's ports are good too.
* Warp to our airship from any Mog House, and possibly Nomad Moogles.
* Allow us to decorate our airships like bigger Mog Houses, and invite people onto them! (ok, this is more complex, but I like it!)
edit: Oh yeah, I agree, airship fights would occasionally be fun, with the ability to extend the flight on our personal airships.
Enough thoughts from me, or it would get too complicated and the original idea of more airships for each route, always in flight, making the maximum wait time 5 min at port and 5min in the air, may get lost in the mix. (That's the least I'd expect them to add.)

^Like this, especially the bit about them being Mog House +1.
Where would they be when they weren't going from one place to another?
Also, flights to Tu'Lia plz.
The way he worded his post tells me he thinks there is only one though.
want to make it clear there is 2 already for each route, SE has the wait for scenery or real life feel, like waiting for the bus.
ether way it is only 10 mins, nice to have that cooldown and lookout.
like this, there is already 2 boats for each route -.-
AyinDygra, that is what happens now, been that way for a longgg time, im not sure if SE ever had only 1 on each route
Flight attendants serving refreshments on the airships would be super-dooper.
These two towns are small port towns. The airships are just too big and too city-slick for these less advanced civilizations. If Jeuno could strike a contract with Aht Urghan for both of them to build an airship port, we'd see more airships instead of shooting them down and make us walk through the freaking woods!
At least the recruiters in all of the nations help make getting to Aht Urghan easier. I don't want to fall from the sky again.

I think adding a small amount of airships should have no impact to our PS2 brethren. Also as I side note I think the only place in Vana that has more than 1 mode of transportation is Mhaura (1 ship to Selbina and 1 ship to Aht Urghan). We also need a better way to get to Norg and Rabao.
On a side note which got me to think about this airship deal is I live in a small town in Iowa, we currently have 3 flights to and from our city to reach the "hub" of Chicago. American airlines has taken notice that people need more flights in and out and are adding a fourth flight in mere days.
If you miss an airship at any port, you can wait up to 11 minutes, if the ship is leaving as you arrive, not 5.5min. My suggestion is to add more flights. Notice my comment at the end which clearly shows what I mean to say by adding more airships, regardless of how many are currently in use.
I want to be on more flying boats! Put in more flying boats, so I'm always.... on a boat!
