The thing is, they ARE choosing to sit on their thumbs instead of relocate servers and continue making money.
Let's see, they're already giving us April free, so how much would it cost them to relocate vs how much money would they make from us by getting up a week earlier?

Here's some English translations of this thread:
"I'm mad you're not providing me with a service that you're not charging me for."
"Also, I'm mad you're not doing what I think you should do to be a profitable company."

I'm so glad I came back to play a game with such a high population of architects and business school graduates.

Yes the downtime is frustrating & I too will not be returning to the game if I have to wait until the end of April or even May. But I have no problem giving them two weeks & see what happens.

Now about their donation & all the celebrities that are donating. Do you really think they did it wholeheartedly for Japan? I will guarantee it is for the tax right-off they now receive. Sure they do care about Japan, but if they did not get the tax right-off then i do not think they would of donated so much.

Yeah, man; how incompetent is SE for not being able to continue on without a blip in the wake of the 5th largest earthquake in recorded history? Who cares if half the country is without power and even if they hadn't done the noble thing, it's unlikely their staff would have even been able to commute to work! If it's a problem that even remotely affects my capacity for pure consumption, it must be annihilated!

It's not a matter of how much it costs to move them, it's a matter of how much it costs them to NOT move them.

Also, in this case it's rarely a situation where they load the servers onto airplanes and move them around the world. It's a case of where a hosting company configures servers and databases to match the layout that is present at SE's hosting center, and SE sends over data and expertise to get everything set up.

Well, since they're already giving us a free month, if Japan gets right soon enough, it could potentially cost them nothing.

But you send data electronically, correct? With rolling blackouts that would be very inefficient in itself wouldn't it? With the massive size of the game it would probably take over this week in downtime that we're are experiencing, correct? I fail to see why anyone would be upset over this incidence. A week to explore other things and a month of free play when it comes back up.

I'm using this time to replay FFX and maybe crack into one of the RPGs that have just been gathering dust since I play FFXI in my game-time :P. I just hope the country as a whole doesn't suffer any more let alone one company's income for a month.

You sir hit the nail on the head about what they should do DR wise to get it back up! All they need to do is find a hosting data center and replicate the data. They have a month before they need to give out another free month. Unfortunately, I think SE is missing the fact that the longer they go without doing this, the more they hurt their player base. If this game is not up before 3-4 weeks of downtime, they wont have a player base left. All of the hardcore MMO players that have had subscriptions for years will be gone. All you will have left are your casual gamers that wont be able to do much given the lack of people left on the server. People play this game because of the addiction to it. Experts say it takes 22 days to break an addiction. That I think is the point of no return for SE in this case.

Your discontent? You selfish ***. Go crawl back under your rock, we don't need people like you anyway.
