my heart goes out to the ones lost (execpt those that work for sony. Personal grudge.) and i understand the shutdown.

but i thought the servers were hosted somewhere in the US O-o but i think the game should be suspened more than a week. like till things are a-Ok down there in Japan.

Saying if I had the money I'd go help does not make it right for you to think you have the right to prioritise your playing time over the power needs of a country Naturebeckles. You and other posters on here just don't seem to get that even though it was not an immediate disruption, it is a necessary one. What makes you think I'm prioritizing my right to play over the needs of a country? It's not just MY right, but the right of millions who do business with a "global company". I'm not even upset about not being able to farm or do dynamis or level my smn for a while. What bothers me is that I don't get to spend time with my friends from literally around the world for an untold amount of time. When somebody else on here said SE should be using servers they have in other countries to keep it going, I agree with them. What is wrong with that? As I said, this game is stress relief for a lot of people. I saw Japanese players on the game yesterday when I was playing. Obviously, they also use it to escape the reality of this tragedy in their own country. I didn't know until today that Japan relied so heavily on nuclear power for their electricity. And knowing that one facility has a reactor meltdown with two more reactors threatening to meltdown is a big enough deal for me to be like... "oh damn... I guess I understand why!" That doesn't negate the fact that a "global company" shouldn't have a backup plan.

I mean for god sakes... some of you are seriously judgmental at others just for not feeling what you do.

At first I was a little disappointed when my friend told me the servers were down for the week. maybe longer. However I completely understand and definitely agree its the right move by SE. The power is better spent towards recovery an saving lives then my few hours of playtime. My condolences to all the people in Japan. I'm go donate my monthly fee for April since its the least I can do.

I honestly mean this, people like this are exactly like bugs when they hit your windshield. Their brains are in their ass. Please for the the love of God, get rid of these selfish, pig-headed, morons.

I think it would be an awesome thing if when they do turn the servers on.... "oops, you're Umbrion? sorry we lost your account info.... <click>". And the same to any other idiot who is angry with SE for placing human life over someone's game addiction.

As to those complaining about not being able to play, most MMOs may have servers in multiple countries, but the game is located on a central server. If you haven't participated in a server transfer of the magnitude that it would require to shift everything for a game this size, then you really should stop and think for a moment. When you're transferring something onto say, a flash drive, it takes extra power to do the transfer, as well as the power that the server normally takes to run. Now, in the middle of that, turn your computer off suddenly. You data will be corrupted on at least one end, and possibly on both, which makes it unable to be recovered. This is meant to simulate the blackouts that they are having EVERYWHERE in Japan due to the power plants being damaged. So, you can either suck it up and go deal with people in person, or whine and cry about not being able to play when a server transfer could destroy your character.

You have to remember that a lot of us don't know how a bunch of this stuff works. this doesn't make what we're feeling wrong... but knowing this helps us open minded people understand things better. Thanks for sharing.

As for you not being able to "chat with your friends' on the game because the servers are down.... here's a tip.... do like I do and talk to your REAL LIFE friends instead.... if you even have any, you probably play the game too much and have lost touch with anyone that was your frend in real life.

you are looking at it in a very business minded way. I'm not judging you, I just do not understand how when something like this happens in the world, regardless of how much news coverage I had seen(I know you said you had no TV, internet for the news maybe?) the first thing that enters peoples minds is how this affects them and their so called rights, tbh I couldn't care less right now when or if I may be able to start playing FF again, The only thing that should matter is that Japan does what it has to do do get through this awful, awful time, regardless of whos nose is put out of joint
