If not being able to play FFXI is the worst thing that happens to you for the next week you are lucky. Try to get some empathy and basic human compassion you tool.
I wish Square would of updated pol for something this important, just a little message about whats happening and why the servers are down. Some may of missed the ingame announcement or not read forums.
Understand that if they weren't turning the servers off for a week that your playtime would be limited to whenever they had power during the rolling blackouts. I think you would have found being kicked off the servers over and over to be more frustrating.
"Okay, I wonder what THIS button does?"
Dear thread starter
Japan is currently not producing enough power. In order to keep important facilities and services operational, people and businesses are asked to reduce their energy consumption until they can get get the electrical grid up and running as normally, as well as negotiate energy import deals with neighbouring countries until their nuclear reactors are working again.
The three-day delay isn't hard to understand. At the start of the disaster, they might not have known how hard it was going to hit them. They might have said to countries they're importing power from that "hey can be use some more, just for a few days?", and that was fine. Now that they know it'll take a while until they get their own systems working again, they want to conserve as much as they can.
In addition to that, there are things known as after-shakes. These, as the name implies, occur after the initial earthquake, and can deal a lot of damage to the buildings that were already pretty messed up by the first quake. These most likely worsened the situation that Japan already was in significantly.
I don't understand why this is hard to understand.
This break gives us all a good chance to look around and see what's happening on Earth. Game will be back, no reason to cry over it.
I agree with the shutdown, that's power that can be rerouted to important services like hospitals...a week away from the game won't hurt us, and my thoughts and prayers go out to all the people in Japan who are being affected by this terrible disaster
