best way to make money in FFXI

Make a fell cleave party and charge 60-100k an hour to leech, it's really easy to setup and since the party system is dead now you can get loads of customers.

War, Whm, Thief or rdm and upto 15 leechers.

Maybe on your server but lakshimi discourages ppl who charge. Guaranteed to have shouts that offer free leech places.

I'll pay, but I prefer to pay by the level, or rather a guarantee of hitting a certain level.

Free FC burns don't last long, they give up since they get nothing out of it at all after a point. Easy to cap your merits and giving freebies loses it's appeal when you get a few a-holes that abuse the privelage.

Actually, I find crafting consumables is much better.

Food (Meat Kabobs, Sushi, Yellow/Red Curry Buns) make a very decent profit (at least double the cost of buying some ingredients from AH and NPCs)
    Ninja Tools (Shihei mostly)
Arrows (for the THF and RNGs, but lower level bolts/arrows sell the best)
    Holy Waters
    Misc Items.

You can make either 7 stacks of an item at a time, or buy like 10 stacks of ingredients and go to town, selling up to 120 stacks over a period of time, buying more ingredients as you sell the finished products.

If someone pays 50 mil for a behe pop, they are the village idiot.

Seeing as how I roll with cleaving, I could make 13 million gil in my typical 8 hours of cleaving I do per run. The thing is, I've found it to be much more valuable to give people free exp and to have them open my chests for cruor, items, KI, and temp items, and after I'm done with KIs they start holding them for me. They pop NM I need and run away so as to not ruin their chain. Most people are more than happy to do this when they are getting 30-60 levels of experience.

The problem with it all is eventually others show up and camp on top of you. That's mostly why I don't charge for my cleaving. Because then I'm obligated to fight for a camp and sometimes, after 5 hours or more, I don't have the energy to fuss at dumb people and fight for a camp longer than 30 minutes(I normally win pretty quickly)

You'd be very hard pressed to beat 1.6 million gil per hour for cleaving. Less depending how much help you have but I generally roll with just WAR WHM. Good luck trying to get 16 people per run you do, though. I've seen people shout endlessly for hours trying to fill up an alliance.
