Spell: Deodorize

The spell in general dose NOT work like its counterparts Sneak and Invisible. It's actual use is to rid the player of agro from monsters that track a player by smell. Because most do not know of its actual effects it goes unused 99% of the time in wich it can be considerd a useless spell. Furthermore, other than Crawlers, dose anyone know witch mobs actually track by smell?

Here is my thoughs on making this spell more usefull. Alow Deodorize mask the smell of Blood agrows.

There have been times when a party wipes due to the overpowered undead that pop at night in an area. even after a raise is performed and a cure been given to a player, after the weakness period is over, a player ones again falls into red and is subject to blood agro. As of now there is noreal way of preventing this type of agro from accuring.

On another note, this would also give thoughs of low maned partys or soloests a higher chance of survivle in surten areas seeing as even a resting high level player with sneak can still be blood agrowed while resting. And I know how inbarising it can be when a lower level mob just happens to get that lucky shot in.

Deodorize is most definitely THE most useless spell in FFXI.

Nah, I think Absorb-CHR is probably more useless.

EDIT: Back onto topic though. Deodorize is basically never used, yeah. Since it only affects tracking and not aggro, usually you'll either be too close to the mob (taking hits, getting interrupted, still have aggro) or too far (could be useful, but if you're that far away you probably aren't in any real danger, rendering its use as a matter of convenience).

On the other hand, though, the OP's assertion that there's no real counter to blood aggro is not quite true, in my experience; while the low HP period after weakness wears off is certainly quite conducive to blood aggro, one can avoid this by staying out of range of the mobs. I've never had trouble with undead mobs blood aggroing me when weakness wears, since they usually don't cover the entire area. Blood aggro range is wide, but not infinite.

I always thought Deodorize should prevent blood aggro...

That said though, to the OP: there are actually a LOT of mobs that track by scent. Orcs are the first that come to mind. Pretty sure I've also lost leeches when running over water. There's lots more; having worked on a lot of the mob pages on wiki, I see Sc on the aggro part quite often.

Basically I was trying to point out that a lot of new comers, as well as even some veterans don't actually know what tracks by smell. I am sure there are a lot of them, but no one really takes the time to research it. They just throw the spell aside and forget about it. In your case, you do wiki pages, but not everyone does.

Probably the biggest issue with understanding and using Deodorize is that it doesn't work to evade detection, but rather to remove detection. To use it, you have to break sight/sound long enough to get the effect off (with stun,bind,sleep?) - I think I've been more successful just running over water, but it's not like I've tried very hard to work out the use of Deodorize
More proof that it has even been ignored by the dev.s: there's no other JA/Spell (is there even an item?) that provides the effect - like NIN and DNC, pots, etc.

Because you mentioned Deodorize ;D

Besides, the most useless spell is Gain-CHR. Self-only RDM spell that grants a minor CHR boost and can't be Accession'd.
Absorb-CHR is close, but at least you remove stats from a mob who might be able to use it to boost a JA.

And Prelude.

Basically, the useless ones are the ones that give +Stats and resistance to Bind and crap. A lot of the BRD songs have their place.

It drives me nuts that if you accidentally aggro a mob are NEVER going to get away from it. Deodorize should activate spontaneously without slowing you down. It should stick for at least five seconds regardless if you are hit. Why does a mob triggered by aggro never give up. Where as one your are trying to pull stops shortly after it leaves it's spawn radius?

I've always thought (for years) that this spell was pretty useless. By the time you can get far enough away from a mob to cast this spell, you're going to want to put up sneak and invisible so that you don't aggro something else. And by the time you get far enough away from the mob to cast deodorize, it's already outside it's spawn zone anyway.

In order to make this spell more useful, I think that mobs that aggro by true sight or sound, should actually aggro by smell. It actually makes a lot more sense. If you have sneak and invisible up, how is it that these mobs can STILL detect you? This just makes logical sense. Plus, if SE insists on there being true detection mobs, this can give them one more type.

Lessens chance of being detected by smell. This is blood aggro, this spell does not stop mobs from CHASING you by scent.I have slept crawlers and leeches and various other things and have run well out of change and casted sneak/invis/deod and the mob kept chasing me. As to the prevent's blood aggro, i was doing an assault and due to horriffic planning by the leader, my drg/whm was the only one alive because i had RR, and the rest of the group had no hope of getting up, all we had to do was get to the lamp. This particular assault has lamia, ghosts and skeles in it, several of which were between me and the exit, yes they all aggro low hp and snk. So i casted deoderize snk/invis and took off, still weakened. My weakened happened to wear off right in the middle of about 4 low hp (blood) aggroing mobs. Due to putting deoderize on, nothing aggroed me and i got to the exit and we won.

And Scherzo.
And Virelai was an interesting/fun way to deaggro mobs back in the day (use it on a colibri, it will reflect it back to you).
Even Etudes got used some of the time, even if they aren't so relevant today. +STR for SAMs using Meikyo Shisui, +INT for BLMs doing timed nukes/MBing, +CHR for yourself for a bit of extra m.acc on HNM stuff.

This is the entire purpose of the Tenuto, with AF3 body and neck you should be full timing double etude on yourself all day erry day. I keep getting bards that literally do nothing but cast elegy in my alliances and it drives me nuts.

The only songs I have never really used were pastoral and fantasia. Aubude and Capriccio are both excellent songs for the alliance vs beastmasters in dynamis. Operetta sometimes useful against imps if some member was a tard and didn't bring echo drops, in which case they'd get that.

Not many spells are truly "useless". They're just really REALLY situational, however, when the situation arises that they ARE useful, they're REALLY useful.

deodorize is incredibly useful! have u ever smelled a nasty elvaan that hasn't showered for days....or a galka that works in a stables? deodorize has saved me from that sorta thing time and again, cuz as we all know, tarus smell like lilacs, so we can't have our scent be compromised :)

and to add, a hume who's been pulling an all-nighter in the smithy or alchemy lab ;P
