Job Trials 91-99

Theres been a LOT of noise about the easy exp and increase in HLNs (high level noobs, need to impose the acronym) So I was thinking (not so hard) a way of getting to the middle point of no grind but CHALLENGE.... thats where it hit me...

What if... you dont level trough EXP from 91 to 99 but earn each level with a quest/mission/solo battlefield designed specifically for your job and forcing you to learn how to play it, being in a party, solo, support etc.

I wont post the details, just the idea.

Kinda like the Maat fights, or the avatar mini trials

Those kind of battle fields teach you a lot of your job, or at leas make you look for a guide or advice, so, by the time everyone is 99 they really know their job

Content outside Abyssea is pretty much an easy ride for 90s, no point in being 99 just so you dont get aggro, so, being 90 would be enough to enjoy old content lowmaning the missions and stuff, but lvl 99 woulb be something just the ones really dedicated to their job can achieve.

Not leveling through EXP? How would you de-level?

well, make it so each quest is like a level cap, and makes you level automatically, but still have the exp there soyou can delevel and... just grind your way back to 99??? really I see no point, how often people delevel these days???

we doa quest / limit break now every 5 lvls running around to do one per lvl be a pain in the @ss more then anything doing a quest still not going to teach a nub how to play their jobs... getting hald dozen k crests and a couple merits... or running out to get couple items from eldieme , garlaige and crawlers next didnt teach them and they had to breach that as well as beat maat to get to 90 still mind u having to travel to the past to fight maat in his prime would be interesting as the final cap XD

They HLN beated Maat as we did, and they still don't know the jobs basis, i don't see in what would do the difference.. T.T

the HLN beated maat in the job they do play, the concern seems to be the people that grab other jobs and level them overnight not knowing the simplest thing the "career" players do

Brand New players are few an they still need to stop at some points and to level they need the help from friends taht really would need to have the "responsability" to teach them, they are not the "problem" here.

And the 91 - 99 "limit breaks" should not be an anoyance if they are desingned right, plus thats what people are asking for no? to "earn" the level, a quest/fight FOCUSED on your job and for each job you wish to take (not one generic for all your jobs) should do at least something to make you work to learn the job.

That said, I am just suggesting and idea, and just to get to a neutral ground on both sides of an argument. Im more partial to the "easy" exp since I am casual and the easy exp allows me to acomplish leveling without grind. And no, Im not lazzy, just have as an adult a bunch of things to do besides playing the game but still want to enjoy it at some level, and I dont think Ill be a noob at the jub Im playing for long as I usually read about how to play said job and ask for advice, why would I level a job and not want to play it like a pro????

I really like your idea. As career SCH i loved the storyline about that job. It would be really cool to get such a thing again. I think a lot of people would enjoy it to play a story created around their favourite job.

So I got another suggestion in addition to that:
With progress in that story you can unlock spells/JAs/etc. That would force ppl with multiple jobs to play the other storys too and prevent to just pick the easiest job and run through it.

Yeah, thats what I was trying to say, the limit break is just valid for the job you unlock it for. And the suggestion to gain an automatic level as you complete each limit break is so you dont have to go back to grind just 1 level and go back to questing, tho it would certanly halt the fast progress of player, but I think it would be more anoyinh than challenging.

Making each level worth for 1 fight/quest/plot and making it so you can only try it once each rl day instead of farming an item like testimonies would be less anoying and would make you thing your strategy each time you fail insted of just try it, fail, farm, try again till you get lucky.

I like this OP.
It's colorful and filled with dynamic gameplay idea's.

I would welcome it, even if it meant the Lv95 Limit Break meant in doing these "Job Trials".

This more sounds like "SE give me a meters tick by which to discriminate against other players" Also, "Lock HLN players out of new/interesting content"
This isn't school, its not a job, we are not competing in the game of life. Its just a game. Some people will enjoy it because they have to figure out challenging battles, some will because they don't want to think about it and just goof around.
Every Single player has gotten thru the Maat fight once, I don't see how this would accomplish what you want. Let social responses handle social problems.

I was simply just saying that "Job Trials" would be fun and dynamic. I don't really agree about having 1 job trial per level, but still something like this would be welcome I would think. Fighting Maat back in the day was pretty special, I don't see how having something EPIC as the final Limit Break would hurt anyone...

Needless time sink. Pluse wouldn't do crap for weeding out the so called unskilled. After the strat is posted on wiki everyone will blow rite though it.

Seems like everything is a Time Sink for people nowadays.

In FF11 there have been enough time sinks. Time sink does not = content. Also lol saying maat fight was any thing speical or epic. Sleep TP pop JAs depending on job WS pop wing WS use healing meds win. Only job that had a hard time with maat was rdm, every other job it was a cake walk. I went 1/1 on drg with forgeting half my meds.

I suppose you want us to spend hours farming testimony like items every time we fail too?

i like the idea, but oppose its use for leveling. perhaps this system can be used for empyrean +3 or AF4(why not)

noobs have always been around, they have always been able to get the good gear. it just so happens that the current system has made them easier to create. half the HLN would be less noobs if they actually lvl'd the old way. so blame the ppl who cleave/edge for gil, or the friends "helping" friends.

I like the idea, but then I don't. What I do like is more AF/ job spasific quest story line. Then again I was both releaved and disapointed when I found out I only had to get a cupple of merit points to break 75.

Well, after re-reading this posts and reading your idea, what if we had to fight a NPC representative from the job in question, as an example: If Im a BLM 90 and i want to unlock further levels, fight against Poseaulloie (in her shadowhand version) or Arijo-Marujido and then Shanttoto to unlock further levels, or if im a PLD a battlefield against Trion and then Curilla, and so on, for each job, that would be fun and challenging.

Yea this is a good idea. Like having "The Best of" BLM arena matches or something. What's the problem with that? Why so much opposition to something that sounds like so much fun?

Sounds fun but would completely kick casual players because xp is the only thing they can do. The idea is good for gear grinding, but not all the gear obviously. You could imagine a weekly bcnm against a pretty hard mob then the person that kills the most of him or kills it the fastest would earn a defending ring or another great item (or just a chance at it). At least it would give a reason to farm good gear.

just raise abyssea cap to 75. Problem solved. Next.

Ya instead of exping from lvl91-99 we should do Job Trials but would be nice to add story elements for each job specific and make them challenging and fun instead of time sink exp grind.

Even tho its quicker to exp in abyssea, I would enjoy the "1 quest = 1 level up" method for progression.
As long as the quest has challenge element and story to give it flavor for each specific Job.
If not for specific job, for all jobs at least.

I was thinking maybe a 3/3 or 4/4 BCNM style battle field or a 6/6 BCNM style battle field type.

BUT PLEASE - No farming items to pop or enter the battle fields cause farming is boring and it would kill the fun!! lol

Also for the new merit point system, you earn merit points by repeating these battle fields that way ppl who want to continue earning the new merit point 2, they can join and help those in the same time who also need the quest to lvl up as well.

Just please, no farming or "waiting elements", I like to do as many of these I can to lvl and just kick some NM's Butt with a bunch of friends! haha.

1 game day per quest is going to suck when you want to just do battle fields to exp in.
Battle fields are going to be super fun if they make it the way I am thinking.

But here is the Catch:
Once you ding lvl91, you cannot level up getting exp anymore! The only way to lvl up is to do those specific battle fields! muhaha!

Limiting wont solve anything.

Besides, we want the game to have more contents so I like the OP's idea in the new style of progression since it has to do with battle fields. lvling up on specific battle fields will be a lot of fun.

Watch SE implement some kind of system like this but still make you get xp to level as well. Also, I can it now in here on the official forums, "SE, I wanted a challenge but these are new job limit break quests are ridiculously hard, What were you thinking?"

In closing, careful what you wish for...blah blah blah.

If you make something very challenging, 95% of the playerbase won't be able to do it.

If you make something somewhat challenging, you won't weed out the "abyssea noobs" you are worried about in most cases, but you will weed out a hell of a lot of people who levelled "legitimately".

Bear in mind, if you make something properly challenging, a lot of the people who will be weeded out are those who complain about the "Abyssea noobs", because a large proportion are people who are only good at exping etc. Be careful what you wish for.

How about we have it so every level post 90, you have to challenge another player (of equal level and job), the winner raises their level cap for that job by 1, the loser lowers their level cap for that job by 1, to a minimum of 90. That way we know that in general people will be less gimp. Bad players will be stuck at 90, better players will be able to get to 99. Everyone is happy.

Seriously though, I do like the idea of something different, I'm just not sure of what it should be and think this isn't quite it. As others said, we shouldn't punish casuals for being casual. And really there is nothing to stop noobs from being noobs. I'd probably look more forward to more interesting and varied content once we hit 99 vs. trying to get 99. Someone did mention in another thread iirc about doing another maat style fight. would be kinda nice. Just not something we have to do every level.

You have to keep in mind that some jobs, like rdm, have more of a luck element to them then a learning one for these kind of fights.(I.e. Maat 70.)

I'd be all for this, but PvP game elements differ so vastly from PvE that a direct 1v1 fight may not be the best way to determine "good" players. If you want to find a good player in a PvE sense, have them compete in a PvE sense. Two DDs can compete to see who can output the most damage. Healers can compete to see how long they can keep an NPC alive. Bards can ... hell if I know. Sing shit.

Aside from obvious support class hurdles, I'd have no issues with letting only superior players level up. Maybe it would knock some bloody sense into the population when they realize they can't break level 90 without using gear swap macros and being not-shitty.

I... I absolutely love this idea. Tasks that require one to exemplify their job.
