Limit Breaks Too Hard to gather party?

Is it just me, or are the limit break quests way too difficult? I understand they are designed to be taken on by a full party, but it's pretty difficult to gather a group together to help with them since there's not a ton of people doing them regularly.

they |too weak| if you get a level 90 to escort you....killed the 3 NM's in glacier solo on SMN even well before level 90 cap.

Yah, All the Level caps can be solo'd by a 75, level 90 its sadly easy.

Try to ask just 1 of your high level friends (if you have any). I sadly don't know an easier way to do these.

All the level caps except 70-75 (Maat) anyway.

I found myself pretty much getting the assistance of a higher level friend. LB3/G3 can be solo'd if you've done up to Magicite on ranked missions, but I imagine it'd be a hell of a pain - I had a friend for the first 2 Crests and I was lucky on the 3rd, I found 2 level 90s outside the entrance I needed and they kindly opened it for me, the rest was getting to the crest without aggroing a true sight mob and linking his buddies, I did, but lived long enough to grab the crest.

This game kind of favours the social aspect of the MMORPG genre, so it's good to make friends with people or get friendly with your linkshells. It's unrealistic now to form a party for the purpose when a friend can solo them for you. Some folk out there can be pretty helpful.

When I was first doing them and the level cap was 75, I had to pay a guy to help me get my ancient papyrus. You're in the same boat everyone else was at the time, sadly. Finding a party for it was really hard before, and now it's about impossible, but the friends/merc options are still gonna be your best bet.

With friends, all the Limit Breaks are now nothing but formalities.

I do not miss the days when it took hours upon hours just to farm up one of the three LB1 items...

I'm inclined to think they should either remove the limit break requirements pre-Maat, or they should simply make them easier to do. (Lower the strength of the NM's) There's no practical way that I can think of to tackle this content anymore for a new player without requesting the aid of a higher level player, at which point the content is laughably easy anyway and gets steamrolled in seconds.

Either the content needs to be accessible and reasonable to the player at the level it is acquired, or it needs to be removed altogether.

yeah limit breaks are nothing but a pain. I got my friend to help me with em, but they are just a pointless roadblock to new players. This game is hard enough on new players without the pointless road blocks.

I'll vote for removing all of them up to Maat @ 70. It's not a bad idea and would help new players.

Um.... did I miss an update notice where they somehow made these mobs harder?

Point is... they are no harder to fight now then they were x number of years ago when we all had to do them ourselves. We had to pull from our pool of friends then , jsut as they need to now. Granted, there are fewer people playing now then there were even just a couple years agao--but chances are, they know SOMEONE with a job high enough to help them out.

A lot of the initial limit break stuff takes place in places you may already be xp'ing in at the level you log the quests--just might want some higher level help to make them EASIER, but they are not exactly impossible to complete if you are at the cap when you do them. Gotta remember, these were originally done py players AT THE CAPS when they were introduced. Granted, they may have formed alliances for some of it (again, to make it easier)--but it isn't necessarily required to do so.

GK1 (cap raised from 50 to 55) items drop from level 51-55 mobs (can be farmed in 6 man level 50 party)

GK2 (cap raised from 55 to 60) requires you to kill 3 level 58 NM's. This may be a bit rough with a level 55 6 man party, but it is not undoable--the more the merrier on this one (unless you have high level help--these were soloable at 75 SMN in the past, I would imagine they are a breeze now for most any job at 90).

GK3 (cap from 60-65)can be soloed for the most part--granted, getting through Oz solo is a problem, but you only really need one other body opening the brass door if you don't have speed enhancement. You may also have to do the death run thing because of True Sigt/True Hearing mobs--but it can be soloed/duoed.

GK4 (cap from 65-70) is just running around towns trading seals to NPC's

GK5 to get to 75 cap is Maat Solo--farming the testy will require some help, as the mobs that drop them are a bit rough to solo--but the fight itself is a solo fight.

I seem to recall these limit breaks requiring alliances to complete, RAIST. You're simply not going to find an alliance of people at the appropriate level ranges anymore to do these, and I suspect while it might be possible to tackle these in singular groups now, it wouldn't be very easy at all. Keep in mind also that even if you can find a group in your level range, it's unlikely you're going to find five other new characters\players that need it when you do. (Everyone else in their level range probably would have done it years ago like we ourselves have, and as such aren't inclined to do it again.)

Furthermore if you have to rely on a level 75+ player to come out and help you, the content in question is pointless. (Having a high level player finish it for you completely eliminates the challenge as it is.)

Nope... I did my NM fights in a 6 man party when I did mine ages ago. Granted, I had some 75 help for mine. But I did go and solo them for an LS mate with my SMN at 75. I also remember going on papy farming runs at 62 BLM in 6 man parties as well--set up skillup runs along with it, and skilled up my staff on BLM.

by that mentality, anything requiring experienced help (COP, ZM, TAU, WOTG, the list goes on) would need to be adjusted too.

The point is, these were already designed to be done at the level ranges when you unlock them (read my edit to the earlier post). Having more players or higher level help just makes them easier to do them is all.

Limit Breaks are only hard for people without friends. And what in the hell is the point of playing an MMO without meeting people and making friends along the way?

If certain players just cannot find a way to complete Limit Breaks now, it's probably for the best. The rest of the game will just frustrate the bejesus out of them.

And to follow this line of thought to the end, FFXI should award players whatever jobs and equipment they'd like while reducing the entirety of the game's story content down to a single menu, accessible from a moogle outside every Mog House exit, for every cutscene in the game.

Uhh, Actually there's a difference between befriending someone, and being an annoyance to that person because they might think were only "friends" because they want you to help them with a bunch of outdated quests.

Having a friendship on an equal level, matters too. Personally I dislike having to "befriend" someone just so that they can do things for me easily. I would rather find equal level friends and complete a fun mission with them. But since Vana'diel is short on those low level buddies, Limit Break is no longer challenging, but rather frustrating.

And for the poster who mentioned CoP should also get adjusted, it did. They removed the cap on CoP missions, and what did that do?

New player about to ding Lv30~ -> /check's high level player... "Oh shit, Rajas ring is sweet!... Where do I get that!?..."

New player checks FFXI Wiki -> "Oh dang... I gatta tell my high level friends to run me through CoP now!"

Um... I didn't say that at all, please point out where I said that.

I read it as being ironic. Plus he said he dislikes befriending somebody because they're 'useful', but would rather find friendship on an equal level - as opposed to what he later described as a 'business' relationship. I was reading it as him pointing out that one mentality that somebody might call a friendship is somebody being needlessly reliant on the other person, whilst the other is...well...friendship.

I think a good way to make friends is to be social amongst party members, offer to help folk out and join a social LS, you might find yourself getting along with decent folk. This game kind of relies on being social, so BE social, make friends and play the game with them. If you're helping folk then you're spending a period of time with them and you're going to talk about something - find common ground and find something interesting to talk about, or find that he's a douchebag, it can happen.

Yeah I have friends in the game so it wasn't like they were "hard" to do - but I agree with the poster that says if the content can't realistically be completed at the level it is needed to be completed at by people of that level anymore, it could use some changes. Maybe since there are so few people who need to do these quests anymore (and therefore it is hard to find a party at-level to do them) they should make them soloable with some difficulty (but soloable nonetheless).

With things like CoP it is a bit different because you are not locked out of progressing entirely if you don't complete it. Level breaks are not optional.

Also everyone makes friends at different speeds, I don't think the point of the level break quests is to make people without friends quit the game....

Yeah that's really all I was getting at, from what my higher level friends tell me, back when they did them whether or not they had a full party, if they simply headed out to the zone to do them they were likely to meet another party and form an alliance with them to do the LB quests.

I forget which, but the one in Davoi was extremely difficult in a party of three with one level 90 player with all of the mobs being able to wipe her out in a few hits...

I like the idea of having to work for the limit breaks, and even the AF gear, but with some of these taking several hours to complete, it's simply too difficult (in my opinion) to get the help to be able to complete them.

A simple enough tweak could be getting some temporary items when taking these on like giant/wizard's drink so you could either solo or duo them at the appropriate level.

They nerfed limit 1 some time back, that last time I did it, it took me about 20min to get all 3 and that was with travel time.

Wait what? A level 90 getting wiped by Davoi mobs is pretty pathetic. I literally just got some one through the first 3 limit breaks with absolutely no problems before the update. I haven't been to garlaige or eldieme since the update but I have been to crawler's nest and noticed that they moved all the lb1 mobs (exorays and crap) into the tunnel leading to the basement/square room from that room. So, they're even less of a walk now (thus faster to reach) than before.

the only one that really requires serious assistance is GK2... the 3 level 58 mobs that you have to fight when you are level 55. The others can be done in a level 6 party or solo. So, there really is only one stage with "extreme" difficulty, that can be taken out with a group of level 60+ players and the one level 55 tagging along to check the ??? points as the other's take the NM (but it CAN be done with an alliance of 55's as well, but finding that many 55's to team up would be an issue at this stage of the game).

I really fail to see the urgency to tweak these... especially considering the hardest one of the Genkai can be SOLOED by a level 75, and we have players up to 90 now.....almost takes longer to travel to the fights then it does to beat them.
