Please add jobs with weapon skill quests to elemental/weaponskill path magian weapons

I've started seeing more in-game chat about this issue. Seriously...just look at some of them:

Scythe: DRK
Club: WHM
Polearm: DRG
Great Axe: WAR
Polearm: DRG
Axe: WAR/BST
Great Sword: PLD/DRK
Sword: RDM/PLD/BLU
Dagger: THF/BRD/DNC
Staff: WHM/BLM/RDM/SMN/SCH

It just doesn't make much sense that some jobs that routinely use some of these weapons (and can proc !! on Abyssea NM's with them) can't use these magian weapons. At the very least, if a job can natively use the quested weaponskills (in short, can equip a <weapon> of Trials), they should be able to equip the elemental/weaponskill path magian weapons (STR/ATT and Store TP Bonus, etc) as well. I can understand the restrictions on the specialized weapons (Relic/Mythic and Physical/Empyrean), but having these restrictions on the more generic elemental/weaponskill path weapons just doesn't make much sense.

Preferably, I'd like to see jobs with a decent skill rank added as discussed in an older thread
(http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...magian+weapons), but I think adding jobs with the quested weapon skills is a fair compromise.

However, if that is judged to be too unbalanced, perhaps maybe adding just the jobs with native access to the new 290/300 level weaponskills (Cataclysm, Fell Cleave) could be another consideration.

hmm i am a bit confused, are you asking to give more jobs elemental ws? or asking more jobs acess weapons say like BLU getting mroe clubs?

I cam confused with elemental weaponskill path, some jobs have good elemetal ws, some dont. like on war i wish there was a GA elemental ws so i can get amber light

Magian Weapons are broken down into 4 groups, two of them are elemental paths and weaponskill paths. Those are the simple, more generic paths (no NM kill lists, don't have to have a relic/mythic to modify, etc). These are too restrictive on which jobs can use them. For instance, look at the staff trials:

You can make a Store TP staff (Sedikutchi) that is only usable by BLM/SMN/SCH, or an elemental staff with stats like STR/ATT bonus, AGL/EVA bonus, or VIT/-Physical Damage Taken Bonus that are only equipable by BLM/WHM/RDM/SMN/SCH--but not MNK, WAR, PLD etc. Those melee jobs are more likely to use these weapons than mages, but cannot. And these jobs DO use a staff routinely for certain tasks. They can equip the Pole of Trials, and gain native access to weaponskills like Retribution (quested), as well as the two used to proc !! on Abyssea NM's--Sunburst and Earth Crusher. They also gain native access to Cataclysm, which is very useful in Abyssea among other things. They SHOULD have access to some of these magian weapons, but currently do not.

Always thought if you had a C grade or higher in a skill, you should be able to trial a weapon. Though, I can see some merit in just allowing it for having the skill itself.

yeah, if you get into doing it by rank, then you can spark a debate on where you make the cut. By using the <weapon> of Trials model, you have a precedent for "privileged" jobs that are more easily argued for being added. Never understood the tight restrictions on them when they added them. Some of the trials simply will likely never be done as they are now.

With Staff being an exception to RDM, I'd almost say the reason should be more that if you have an offensive spell of the corresponding element, you should be able to go for that particular path. That would put BLU on for all 8, PLD for Light, DRK for 7/8 (no Light), and NIN for at least 6/8 (Unsure on the alignment of some of their new spells). Some jobs might not use these much, if ever, but having the option should be there given the intended purpose of boosting the spells.

As one of the few SMN that has these staves, and one of the only players in the game with full staff merits, I say wait your turn. Before you get to play with my weapons, give me your WS. No, BLM and SCH won't melee, but SMN does. As soon as SE recognizes the job that SHOULD be the staff master, I'm OK with the wannabe PLD, WAR and MNK joining us.

I do not want a DD staff for mage jobs, there is enough of those, I want staffs with real mage stats( speaking on mythic, relic status weapons)

and of course SCH wont melee it has the worst melee skill levels.

You can pick 2 weapons to merit. Was one of them staff?

Why does it matter what i merit? that is not the question i asked.

If you didn't merit staff, then it isn't that important to you. I think the future of the staff weapon should be given to the people who do actually find the weapon important.

My question was, "what are you talking about?" I do not want to hear about your entitlement to staffs because you have staff merits.

I did not spend 5 years using a staff as a primary weapon to have it outdone by a job that hasn't spent a week using the weapon.
