Beastmaster: Pet + Skillchain = Yes, Please!!

All other pets participate in skillchains.

Can you please allow it so that beastmasters can form skillchains with our pets? Our weaponskill are already sufficiently weaker than other DD's that this should balance quite nicely.

It sounds like a lot of work, but this would be really nice.

That seems to be the bulk of the answer's we are getting to things players want added... "This would be a lot of work".

Just because it's a lot of work doesn't mean you shouldn't be doing it. It means you should start working on it now, as that is in fact you're job... to do work... for FFXI.

I would love to be able to SC off of my pet.

But i think the problem would be that we would be able to SC to often, since us and our pet gain TP at the same time.
So it would be similar to gaining like ~16TP at 280 delay.
Though if the gave us a JA that let our pet's next TP move participate in a SC it might be more conceivable.

Which i would like just as much as being able to just straight up SC with our pets.

Yea, I know. But to be honest, at the end of the day, if I had to only pick certain things, I would want them to work on a new Expansion. It all boils down to resources. I wonder how much they have now that XIV is running :(

You haven't heard what the pups are doing w/ their new weapon that drops from ogopogo. BST skillchian w/ pet would not be broken in any way.

Hopefully just as much prior to FFXIV, if not more considering FFXI is the only reason FFXIV still exists.

Allowing a pet to actually participate in a skill chain would be no greater an advantage then a summoner that can now keep their summons out without cost.

They can use their summons and maintain TP just as a bst can with their pet.

Summors do not have a time limit their summons can be out, if attacked a summoners summon attacks the aggressive mob, their summons cost the summoner mp which is restored after a few ticks, summoners summons can be used in skill chains and targeting weaknesses.

If it comes to balance the summoner is fully loaded while the bst just finally got a pet that's EM to their level after 6 years.

No hard feelings to Carrie :) but they nerfed bst and turned them into "Party" jobs when people got lazy and didn't want to solo. Now they are turning it back into some what of a soloable job again. Even though half the people playing it now level it through Abyssea and are clueless how to really play it lol

I'm not too experienced with SMN or PUP but, I'm pretty sure their pets aren't any where near as sturdy as our pets are.

PUP also has a 20 min recast on there puppet, though they got that dues machina(sp?) thing but I'm pretty sure they come out in a weakened state.

SMNs... well how often do you see a SMN meleeing and doing enough damage to keep up with DDs with their attacks.

From what I see its like:
PUP has more damage output from player. (Though there is the mage puppet i guess.)
SMN has more damage output from the pet.
and as BST i think we kinda fall in the middle with about 50% damage on both us and pets.

Though this is more from a theoretical stand point.

Not posting this just to be a kill joy or anything cause i don't want to start a violent argument or anything.
Simply trying to point out balance issues so we can find a way around it to make the idea more plausible.

:D I'm not near getting into a violent argument w/ you Fadnog. You are a fantastic BST!!
I've read some of the descussion on the pup forums. The weapon they got in heroes gives 10/tic regain to the automaton. they can carry this in and out of abyssea. Combine this w/ tactical switch and they are spamming the Weaponskills. Automatons are very configurable, but they can be quite sturdy and compare to the master quite well also.

I just don't think there is any game balance worries at all in giving bst/pet skillchains.

I guess they do want job specific suggestions in the job forums. The moved this thread.

Yeah, it would be nice if they'd do that. Probably the easiest way to implement it would be to make it a JA exactly like Chain Affinity, cooldowns/duration and all. Except of course instead of landing a physical BLU spell on top of a normal WS, you pop "Pet Affinity" or whatever and use the WS after your pet's TP move.

Bst should be allowed to SC with their pet
Players can skillchain with adventuring Fellows
Blues can solo SC

Only makes sense to allow bst to skillchain with their pets. SMN and PUP are much different than in almost all ways other than they are all pet classes.
When a Bst Zones they lose pets
PUPs can almost or most time OUT NUKE Blms
SMs summons hit alot harder than bst pets. Now it can be argued that a SMN would also die much faster if their target went to attack them instead of their pet.

Its not like Bst sc with Pets would be mindless either seeing how each pet has its own moves, and it wouldnt be harder to program seeing how SE could just build off the ideal of BLUEmage Self SCs.

I personally am a fan of being able to SC with pets. I read alot of well smn can do this and pup can do that but I find bst could be worse off then it is. Drg is nice melee job one of my favorites but with all the aoe's the pet it just for looks. I solo'd drg to 75 and couldn't have had a better companion in my adventures but the reality for me is I can solo what I want way easier on bst. Wyverns can't be apart of a sc unless you close the sc and they get lucky enough to pick the right breath to MB which even then is pretty lame. All pets are not created equally or function on the same level. Would I love to skill chain with my pet hell ya. I am satisfied with what bst has as is yes. I'll hope and pray bst gets more but I won't be upset if we are looked over as their are lamer pets out there.

wyverns can take part in skill chains via magic bursts. I dont see a reason why pet TP moves shouldnt chain with everyone not just the beastmaster. It encourages more intelligent play, wich is kinda wat bsts like best about bst anyway. Its a smarter job.

I've played a lot of FFXI, but I never played BST because of the stigma that it had. I started playing a couple weeks ago when i came back and I <3 BST. I feel bad that I didn't play it earlier. The first thing I didn't understand was why you couldn't do this.

I was like SMN, BLU, DRG... WTF? Really no SC involvement?

I'm going BST/DNC and if I could use my TP for tanking and heals while using my Pet's TP to SC I would be very happy.

one other thing, if a pet's special ability is the same as a blue spell that is needed to proc grello !! and you do land it under all of the proper conditions it really should count. I only mention this for going forward if the !! concept is continued into the 90-99 content.

How do you know it doesn't already work?

Of the blue spells that target yellow, only 1000 Needles, Death ray, and Frost breath are done by charm-able mobs. Only 1000 needles is done by a jug. It probably won't work to proc, as the blue spell functions very differently, but it might be fun to see if it works though. I only have 1x Sun Water that I've strangely been holding onto since before the level cap increase. Maybe I'll use it to see if it will work for proc'ing yellow. I think it would be almost completely useless, but still very satisfying if it did.

Lol, actually It would be very satisfying to use on Cuijatender or Emperador de Altepa w/ 100% -pdt set... even though 20 minutes is a rediculous short time. This jug got hit w/ the nerfbat pretty hard too.

I always wanted PET skill chains, but it should only be jug pets.
SMN can do it, why not us?

I have been asking the same question for years, BST + Pets are the perfect jobs for skillchains, SMN has been able to do this from day one and so has PUP, I can solo skillchain 7+k Light with My PUP in Abyssea (RNG frame) I would love to be able to do 30% of that damage with my pet.

I feel from looking at the Jobs from day one and 1st release BST was never considered or able to skillcahin with pets so this would require a massive amount of work to complete, but you never know we still have 9 more levels to go so SE could be saving it for a 99 BST to savor and look forward to, who knows :)

due to the fact that bst pets are doing high dmg already, skillchain with pets would be too gamebreaking.

Step 1) Go outside abyssea
Step 2) Fight something that isn't EP. (dynamis/voidwatch especially.)

BST is only a hair's breadth above where it was at 75. Our new jugs have sub jobs. That is the only difference. With no atmas boosting pets to where they shoulda been all along, BST is a pretty bad DD. Jug pets didn't make up for the lack of job abilities/traits and mage sats. They REALLY don't make up for missing all the stuff every other job's gotten since 75. Atmas put everyone on equal footing, to the point that melee mages could compete with actual melees. With those gone, everything is identical to the game at 75.

Only other thing BST got was spur, which gets your pet more tp... for ws's that do pitiful damage... and you can't skill chain with. Skillchaining with pets would be the perfect first step.

Interesting idea and I'm sure it's really not so much trouble to add, the system exists, but with different requirements: Chain Affinity/Azure Lore. I fully support this idea.

Well, even if they dont give us the ability to sc off pets maybe giving us a move similar to snarl which allows us to pull tp from our pet kinda like how we snarl hate to pet. that may be a little bit easier for the devs to integrate than them trying to figure out what pet moves to incorporate into said sc's. thus allowing us to sc a bit more frequently and with more regularity than trying to get lucky with reverse flourish and multi hit weapons and whatever other gear that folks may be stacking

that would be an awesome day for bst being able to Skillchain with our pets but mostly for jug pets cause charmed pets would be a scatter shot for abilities cause its random what abilities it'll use not like jug pets where you can pick which move it'll use and yes it'll be a lot of work but well worth it

This would be perfect for those Charges that we have to expend, if the devs would move Ready off of the charge timer and allow us to use pet TP more often. There would still be a limit due to the charges required, but it would make pet interaction a little more dynamic. BST as it is now does not get busy, it's just standing there and smashing things with axes while the pet tanks. Even MNK is busier than we are now, and their job used to entail watching tv while they auto-attack. It's even worse when we just stand there while pets do the work, then you're literally reduced to single button gameplay.
