That was found out a few days ago on BG, where someone on their dat mined the rom9 folder on the test server client. Someone on there pointed out the name might be Blood of Chaos, the only other name SE trademarked recently was Drakerider.
That's kinda sloppy on SEs part to but a bunch of new zone files on the test server.
Don't get your hopes too high. Wait for an annoucement at vanafest, I mean, just because something is in the dats of the test server does not mean it will go live. There were many items/spells/zones etc that had been in the real game's .DATs and were never released. Altough I think a major expansion (or even a mini expansion abyssea style) would breathe more life in the game, after the shitty year that 2011-2012 have been as far as content go (old content rehash and failure at it mostly).
Honestly, it's just really nice to see it in there. I don't think there's any one on this forum who hasn't ask for a new expansion and new area's. The pic's look very promising. And I'm glad to see that the Dev's have been working hard behind close door's to bring us something new. Assuming that these zone's are actually coming in a new expansion/add on.
"History Directors Panel: Project XI"
I fully expect these to be old zones they never added, or heavily changed, that they're going to run around and explain to use as a little history lesson into what FFXI could have been. They have to know we dat mine and I honestly can't think why they'd release this ahead of the VanaFest for us to find if a new expansion is their big reveal.
But in all seriousness, if its a new expansion and its anything like WotG, Bye-Bye, Taisai. Maybe I'll come back in two years when they're finally finishing off the expansion, but I'm certainly not sticking around for 10 minutes worth of story every 3 months only to get an extremely disappointing endgame event at the end of it. Hopefully its more like Abyssea.
I don't care what it is! It's new content! excited!
HOPE IT HAS HNMS
HNMS THAT DROP COOKIES AND ICE CREAM!?!?!?!?!?!
I suspect this is their big announcement, which is why I'm somewhat surprised they haven't deleted this thread yet. They added the new zones to ROM9, which only appears on the test server install of FFXI. It's possible that someone just messed up when they were making the Test Client and started included ROM9 accidentally.
I'm so game
A little voice inside says those zones were zones created at beginning of ff11, they never ended releasing (like someone above said). The big annoucement could be: server merges, the crystal warrior weapons . Then every player will hop on their char in Eldiem Necropolis and level level down to 98 in protest and bury their char, then quit.
oh... this isn't good.. is it?
Exactly what skill ....
SAM: Gekko Gekko Gekko Gekko
WAR: Raging Rush Raging Rush Raging Rush
MNK: Hit Hit Hit Hit Hit Hit Hit
Everyone Else: YAY DROPS!
I did all the old stuff, don't lie to yourself. There was no *skill* involved, hardest thing was timing stuns. And in all honestly, Voidwatch requires more *skill* then every big alliance old content ever did. Managing your Temp Items, although not hard, is something you never had to deal with before.
Inb4 "managing hate" line of argument.
I luv the "I'm a realist ppl" they always bring the worst attitude to everything.
Calm down you guys, this thread isn't about e-peens.
It's about getting our hopes up and then making us wait very long periods of time before SE decides to crush our dreams by announcing that all 9 new zones will be released as separate expansions and that their only purpose will be to hold NMs used in a revamp of their Hunt Registry system, where the only changes will be that you have the chance of getting a stronger "Resist Poison +10" evolith by equipping a crafted-only item(made by 100 Synergy) that can only be equipped by SAM WHM and PUP.
Take your own advice and don't lie to yourself. This is complete bullshit. If the big alliance sucked you could not clear T3 Einherjar, period. I've seen close to 36 people wipe in there. It was the difference between 2 and 10 AF items a Dynamis run. It was the difference between wiping on Ix'DRG and killing JoL. You can not tell me a full alliance of noobs even stood a remote chance of killing JoL, because they didn't. If just one party in there was useless, chances are the entire thing wouldn't have worked out. In VW, a handful of good people can carry the entire alliance, as long as the others can proc spells, while on Cerberus at 75 the entire alliance needed to be on their toes to kill it in under an hour (and good tanks to survive even, which also isn't needed in most VW fights).
Say whatever you want about what type of content you liked most, that's entirely unrelated to this. But saying random garbage like that makes you seem dishonest.
While having it in the dats makes me hopeful, I'm also reminded of various zones/spells/etc that were in the initial release that never quite made it to the final realization of the game today. I believe at one point there was speculation that there should have been a bastok train station of some form with an entire layout of tracks leading through an unreleased zone, but it was never used and eventually removed from the dats(I think).
This might just be a "we need something new guys let's test this out" tinkering on SE's part so I'm just going to wait for something from the actual devs that explains the new rom files.
Funny, so are a lot of other things yet people are still around doing it, or in some cases SE took a hint and plan to add/added the options (dual client windows, windowed mode, higher resolution). See what literal context does? What I meant was more in terms of an announcement stating there is something new on the way. IE: the announcement of a new expansion/addon that would explain why these type of dats are being found in ROM9.
Our NEW HNM!!

I do love taco's
Geez, you call one idiot an idiot, their e-feelings get hurt, and they mash the report button to nuke the post proving they're an idiot.
I for stand by my opinion that olde FFXI required more skill than current, and I hope the new content goes back to requiring it rather than just being faceroll type content like our current endgame.
You forgot to add that the "Resist Poison +10" ground breaking and game changing evolith is a circle shape and is only effective against rabbits... >.>. SMH. synergy has to be the biggest let down in the history of gaming. Who actually thought it was a good idea? "The gaming community will go crazy over how specific (limited) this gear is!" Fire him, then fire the one that approved letting this into the game. And of course they wasted some of the cooler looking gear on that crap, while Nares rehashes ugly ass goliard. That mnk body was cool as hell.
Changing ps2 space requirements from 12gb to 19gb was the first "hint" that an expansion was coming. The zones that are found only support that reasoning. 7gb is over half their current game space. Sounds like a pretty big expansion at that.
in b4 no police
Either way a full blown expansion would be nice. but this is a decade old MMO. so i'll not get my hopes up. if it happens it happens , if it doesnt ill just go do something more constructive with my life, perhaps master making the ultimate bacon dish.
It's a decade old MMO with a declining population. You need to spend money to make money, and SE has gotten lazy on that for the past couple years. I also doubt development costs for XI are remotely anywhere near that of modern MMOs due to the lower expectations of the visuals due to the game's age.
Eh for the game to require skill again they need to look the elephant in the room in the eye, looking at you emity system. I'd agree that older content took more skill because you could actually coordinate who tanked, and NM's didn't spam i win moves. 5++ years later we have massive damage inflation a level 60 cap enmity system that they refuse to either adjust, acknowlage that it needs adjustments or all the above.
As far as the evolith system goes it could have had promise but it was "balanced" into obscurity and utter futility. If they revamped the way it functioned and alot of the limitations that existed along with adding relevant stats to evoliths it could be a very well received system, that said im going no police on myself because that would make too much sense for them to make something useful.
