Turn Windurst's School of Magic into a magic skill up place / BLU learning methods

I don't know how much credit this thread is gonna take, maybe I played Fable too much but here's the idea.
Some magic skills are hard to skill up (Enhancing magic comes to mind, but healing magic too if you can't go mess up with undeads), and so I thought why not get the School of Magic in Windurst to actually work and accept sign ups from players? I think it would be a good exploit to get higher skill up rates, or maybe there could be some trials that would award you with hard-to-obtain magic scrolls (like quest-able scrolls you can no longer quest, or rare drops scrolls), making them Ex so that RMTs can't abuse of it.
I know it sounds unnecessary but I think it would add some fun and also make Windurst the Academic City it's supposed to be by canon if you could see a lot of mages around there going to study new spells or blood pacts.

BLUs could get the same treatment by having special training in the Colosseum to fight against certain enemies to obtain their spells (maybe the lv91-99 ones?). I would really like to see an Immortals' Arena where BLUs can train together, maybe make BLU spells learn-able from player to player through PvP events in there (sorta like you could learn Kimahri's blue spells fighting against the other Ronso warriors in FFX). Wouldn't it be epic to have your blu friend be your spells mentor that way?

as a player who is a 90 blm, rdm, smn, nin and blue just to name a few. i am well versed in magic and skill ups. the feeling of pride and acomplishment gained by seing that skill up means alot ot many people it also it part of the learning experiance in being good at ones job. while the incressed skill ups gained in the last update are well welcomed. turing areas in the game to magic skill up zones. would be very hard. emagine a area the size of your living room having 1-3k people in it all casting spells. theirs enough diffisulty jsut getting to Houst in port jueno with all the AFK people around him much less 2k people using skill up bots in a room.

my adivse get the job to 90. then spend some time simply levling up your skills. fine tune your macros getting more gear to make you job better. heck join a few abyssea parties and just go low level nuke crazy. make sure every mob u debuff it at least 1-3 times. it doesnt take long to cap your skills. the quick way out is never the best way out. and the more preatice the better player youll become. with being ableto get to 90 in 10 hours jsut being a high levle player means nothign anymore. people judge you by your skill , ability and presence.

as for bluemages and learning spells. it can be very hard. but doing the above caps your skill making learing the spells easier. so no area is needed. and why would we want one? one of the joys of being a blue mage is going to the diffrent places and finding the pray. standing in one room and they all coming tous. whats the fun in that? ffxi is al about travel, exploration and spending time to do somethign so thers a feeling of acomplishment.

OMG this is so nuts to see this post!! Just before sleep last night, an idea VERY similar to this hit me, and I started jotting down some notes on the concept :) I'll be posting it soon as I get all my ideas in one place, but it's just funny to see that other minds are on the same wavelength at times lol.

If done right, I believe the concept would cater very well to all player types (including the hard working/prideful types and the folks with little time), so I think it has great potential.

I'm not in need of skill ups personally, I always try to keep my skills capped as my levels go up, I'd like to see this kind of things just for the fun of it more than the purpose^^ I know there's many other ways to achieve skill cap, but I always liked the idea of RPG academy.

The game is already being dumbed down enough.....lets not take it further please -.-

maybe this would've been a good idea for low levels. skilling up is easy in abyssea so i don't know why another source is needed.

I would be happy to see a change to skill ups if it required a unique and similarly time consuming strategy. It's not like skilling up takes skill. It just takes time. If there were multiple time wasters opportunities to skill up, people could pick and choose and not get so bored spamming spells on worms or themselves over and over again.

But actually saying that changing how you skill up is dumbing down the game is a ridiculous statement. There is barely a dumber thing in the game than just mindlessly casting spells over and over again to skill up enhancing magic or SMN skill or BLU magic.

I don't think it means making game dumb but even if it was, I don't think a game's purpose is to be serious. I play videogame to have fun and fun is sometimes made of dumb things too.

For Blu, the skill-ups I don't care about.

However, part of learning the spells was always the challenge of getting out in the field, either solo or with a group. The only part of that which is annoying is how long some of the spells take to learn, which is random. And, the worst ones are the ones which take a large group. Since, often people don't want to remain out their with people who haven't gotten the spell after an hour.

There's a place called Al'Taieu aka Sea

you get this zone ability from finishing CoP 7-5

what you do is warp to Sea and there are these orange dolphin type mobs called Ul'hpemde in the area that will Aggro to you and are True Hearing but the neat thing about them. They will not attack you unless you deal dmg to them.

So what you do is spam your divine, enhancing, enfeeble spells, your wind/string/song spells on these mobs for hours on end and you skill up like crazy :)

As long as it does not do dmg to them ur good to go.

I lead with Flash as it holds their attention for a long time and also keeps my divine capped :)

This is a great fantastic idea, so that Blue Mages can have options, they can learn the spells the old fashioned ways (cheap and time consuming) or pay gill and battle it out in colosseum (faster but a bit more costly).

Didn't you frigging read my reply to your thread about "not finding help anymore"? I even gave you this idea back there go read it. It is the exact same thing I said. Go look on your thread and you'll see what I'm talking about.

"I'm not here to troll or anything but the reason why it gets harder to get help is because there are barely any new players, not like before. So now is harder to make friends and because of that is harder to have people that actually help you. I got over 40 people in friend list and most of them have quit and only 4 or 5 people will be there to help me from time to time.

Now, the truth of the matter is that people are very selfish and trust me you're not the first one to think this way, that people don't help anymore because people have ALWAYS been like this since way back in 2004 when I started playing. This is nothing new seriously.

About what you said of rewarding people for helping, I'm not sure if that's gonna cut it so my suggestion is to unite players, this is a good thread to post this idea I've thought for a while.

I always wanted to add something to let them socialize and get to know each other. It may sound very cliche but there should be like bars or something like that, back then before COP there weren't many places to go so I would wonder "what's with the outposts? are there people in there or what? would be nice to go inside and take a break from the fights and talk to people and whatever.

Another idea, and as silly as it sounds I think people would be interested in an alternate way of skilling up. So I thought some sort of gym would be perfect to know people and polish your skills. There are some jobs (mostly mages) that have problems skilling up their weapons and magic skills without worrying they're gonna get killed by the mob they're trying to skill up. It doesn't HAVE to be a gym, it can also be a boot camp during the shadow era and join the soldiers/knights/warlocks/rogues to boot camp. All that while talking with people.

Vangoh I think you misunderstood this thread. I am by no means asking for help with skill ups or blu learning spells (nor was I asking for help with that other thread). What am I suggesting here is an idea to skill up in a *funny* way, and to add more content to the game. I perfectly know how to skill up and I have my skill capped personally. The main point of the thread was to give a use to the school of Windurst other than looks and some spare quest/mission, and the Colosseum.

Game development is not always about making things easier for the players. People like me appreciate useless but fun things too to be added.

I'm talking about the bold part of the comment, forget about the rest. I'm just saying this is the same thing you started this thread with, a way (maybe fun way) to skill up and not only that I also emphasized on the social aspects.

yeah and I give you credit for that, I've just been thinking about some in-game existing buildings that could have some potential and figured this would be worth having its own thread.^^

If I wanted to get my spells easily, I would have levelled another mage job. Spell hunting is the most fun I've had in the game, and it's great to kick back with a few BLU friends and have a little adventure, fun, and travel sometimes. Not just stand there and be bored.

I don't know, I find the idea of BLU mentors and BLU apprentices in an arena pretty epic, nothing boring at all. I do enjoy BLU spells hunting as well but I'd like SE to add more options, achieving something with different styles is fun too. But like I said, I think I inherited this passion for 'school' games from Fable. *shrugs* always worth a shot proposing even just to see how many people share the idea.

Ideas are great to be shared, and I don't mean this in a horrible way, but blue mages going out and "wresting their strengths from their enemies" has always kind of been a staple of them throughout every final fantasy. Even in IX. I can't really see how a "school" where a blue mage learns their abilities to fit in well with the blue mage storyline either to be honest.

It sounds a little harsh, but I don't mean it to be this way. I respect blue mages for the spells they've managed to get (especially pre cap with sea spells); to me the suggestion is akin to suggesting a walk-in-wardrobe where you can copy and clone the equipment of anyone that walks in.

i dont mean to sound harsh or anythign . but if your skills are capped and merited why would you even care if they thought of intruducing it? theres absoultly no purpose to it other then generating a new generation of mindless players who have no consept of how to do ther jobs here is a nice example.

i'm in abyssea doing dom opps Saturday up upping some gaxe skill becasue its not capped and im waiting for my next ls event and i got nothing else to do. just like clock work i see a BLM fall over dead. then the next pull another one fall over dead till all 3 are dead. fast farward 5 mins and the cycle is repeated. no skin off my nose im not dieing so i say nothing. i just laugh at them killing themselves. then it starts "wow <insert name> you really throwing out some damage" "yea hes a awsome BLM" "yea i smoke these guys" i start really watching. no Stoneskin, no blink, phalanx, no shadows, no mana Wall no mana douse. teal gear. mob gets pulled at 75% he nukes, the mob then runs over and beats him to death. i say your nukling to early try around 50%. there responce back
" if i nuke at 50% the mobs hp is down to 14% when the spell goes off bro" "so then you one shot it i dont see the problem"
" i dont think you need to be schooling me bro" of couse he dies about 20 more times. then goes and changes to sam. and then goes AFK the rest of the time i was there.

the easier/dumber they make the game the more people of this caliber are produced. until befoe you know it your surrounded with a server of level 90 people who cant walk and chew gum. its funny the more they make this game easier the more people dont try. the more they want it weasier and effortless. just watch in a few more updates you wont even have to level at all. just pay your monthly sub and SE will level and get the gear for you. be pratical. its all we need is a bunch of new players who jsut stand ther drooling on themselves woundering when ther getting +2 gear. and no offese fable isnt a mmo. and u cant do the same thing like that on a real mmo.

As I said at least a couple times already this thread was not open to make things easier for people in anyway, nor for my personal need.
What I was proposing was to give the school of Windurst a way to actually work for players instead of just 'being there', since Windurst is supposed to be an academic city full of scholars and mages learning magic. The skill up was just ONE of the many ways the school could work. I also put the gaining-scrolls-through-trials idea there. Please read the posts fully before giving an answer.

i did read your post. and the school is there for quests and missions and like i said ffxi is not fable. and putting a place in a city were anywere from 1k-2k people would gather to "skill up" would crash the servers. lag out the game and is not benifitial to the game in anyway. its harder to put something from a offline game into pratical use in a multiplayer game. the result, and server problems. while you haveing a big heart and wanting to help the little guy learn at a easier and faster pace. is a very kind idea. the pratical usage would be exploited to no end and would husrt more then it ever helpped.

as for skill up scrolls. a mage gets skill ups from casting the spells. by simply castign the spell they have a chance to get a skill up like anyoen else. if we give mages skill up scrolls. then everyone will wanta skill up scroll. peopel will want weapon skill up scrolls. combat skill scrolls. then crafting scrolls. syenergy scrolls. if you make the game to easy peopel exploit it and wont even try . youll level 1 job to 90. Abyssea burn then just scroll grind. and of never touched a monster or casted a single spell. and be at 100%

i'm sorry im not a fan of your idea. just tired of people being spoon feed everything then thinking ther bad arse. kudos on wanting to help the new guys. do like i do. take em spell hunting or just for fun do skill up parties. it how we make friends.

general tips on how to be a better mage. help them understand what spell is based on what physical or magical stat.
macro design. and how to manage emunity. the schools are there for the storylines. just like 95% of the strustors in the game. very ferw havea player purpose outside the story archs.

if it ant broke dont fix it. the skill up scroll was a referance to a typical pay out that se would give like for dynamus the XP scrolls. over the years many apon many peopel have had good ideas for SE to use but eventhe good ideas get warped and twisted into things they never expect. we as a group loveto exploit everythign to our advantage. or you more then likey simply say "well them being gimped doesn't effect me" if you dont try to help the problem your part of it. if i had my choice i would make skill ups harder not easier.. if you earn it you respect it.

I'm kind of surprised to see the people who think making it easier to gain magic skill-ups is a bad thing. Spells that you can cast on high level mobs (dark, enfeebling, elemental, divine) already skill up super fast (they cap within 3 nights of playing a level 90 job) whereas skills that are only used on self cap so slowly that people either abuse third party programs to cap them while afk or they decide that there's no point/rush to cap them and just ignore them. I'm not familiar with BLU, SMN, or NIN skill however as a WHM BLM RDM BRD I'm not threatened by the idea of making skillups easier because things I have capped already were very easy to cap and things that I have not capped are so hard to cap that it's more a badge of honor that they're not yet capped than a shame.

And no, [Learning Blue Magic.] is the way it is for a reason. How many FF games have you played?

I disapprove of this idea. If you actually attempt to level in areas around your level, your magic should be kept up easily. The game doesn't need even easier skill ups than it has now.

Becides, if you changed the magic school, where would poor little Koko Lihzeh study?

I see a lot of people are misunderstanding this thread.
The main idea was to give a use to Colosseum and School of Magic to make them look more active to the adventurer's eyes.
Skill ups was just one of the many ways that could be done. I am not looking for easier skill ups^^ Like I said it could also be a place where to earn scrolls, or something else if you can actually post other ideas rather than keeping saying skilling up is already easy. I know it is, and this is why this topic is not about easier skill ups.
