RDM Relic +2 Armor

Some interesting stats, don't know how hard they'll be to obtain the base +2 version, there is some trial you can do to add boosts to our god aweful tier II merits.

More +enhancing magic, that's a good thing.
Enhances "Phalanx II effect", probably just adding more potency. Depending on what the Dia III / Slow II boost is, might be worth looking into meriting it.

Looks extremely craptacular. Might be a mediocre nuking piece for those without emp gear. Melee stats and Mage stats should never be on the same piece of gear because we can change gear and it ultimately means less utility in both.

Enhances "Bio III effect and Blind II effect", thankfully two of our worst merits are also on the worst piece, so you won't really be bothered with it.

For gear we mostly got a$$ raped by BLU. But there are a few gems.

The Magian swords got renamed to something else. Their DMG:61 Delay 230, stack on your favorite stat and you'll be solid. New stats are something like STR+11 Attack+22, not much better but its ~ok~. We're not on ~ANY~ new daggers, no surprise. Dagger RDM is pretty much dead right now with non-emp Sword RDM's stuck with DB or ~shudder~ Req.

We got raped out of the light DD gear but at least we got the consolation prize, will most likely come from Voidwatch at ridiculously low drop rates, but we might get lucky.

Gives evasion -40

You can spam it due to the low cast / recast time, but everything is STILL immune to it so that +40 accuracy to the alliance doesn't mean a thing.

SE needs to remove the -movement effect and make it similar to Dia for resistance. Then it would be an awesome spell for party support.

So +8 in enhancing magic from gear, didn't notice anything else with +enhancing that we didn't already have better from Abyssea.

Actually .... every "mage" jobs Emperian armor is better that crap "every mage" set. Which gets to something that's irking the hell out of me.

WHY does SE insist on making a SINGLE "every mage" set for SMN/BRD/WHM/BLM/RDM. Each of those jobs requires different stats for their spells and abilities. By making a single set for all of them you only get watered down gear that is crap. Other then the cure pot legs I didn't see any support gear that would beat out what I'm using now and almost all of it is worse off.

Yeah with Tanaka back in charge of development I don't expect much in the line of melee gear. I'm actually going to acquire a Goliard body so that I have more freedom with head / legs / feed for +Haste items. Currently our best "non goliard" TP Body is the ACP body and I'm getting tired of wearing a smoking jacket. Figured I could get better then 10 attack / 10 acc / 3 DW in other slots now.

Wish it had one more point of Haste, but alas, that would be too perfect. Guess us White Mages will still be forced to choose between different haste pieces. They even released a pair of 98 gloves that are a merger of our AF1+1 gloves and the NQ Blessed... once again, one more point of haste would have been nice...

On Gravity, I've already said it before, but I'll repeat it incase SE decides to listen. For Gravity and Gravity II, please separate the movement effect and evasion down effect so that mobs can't resist the evasion down part of the spell.

The "upgraded" Goliard in the .dat's on the test client had lost it's haste and gained more "every mage" stats. I'm curious to see if they keep it like that or change it into a mage-melee body piece. Going to get it as there's not much else for our body and it should upon up some other slots. I'm interested in the legs because our current "best" legs include accuracy-8 along with Haste+4% and some DA/TA. Going from Acc-8 to Acc+10 is 18 accuracy, which would be a boon for situations where I'm stuck using pizza+1. If I throw up Goliard body them I'm +5% haste (already at 25%) so I can afford to lose 3% from head (tiara) and 1% from legs and still be capped. If they upgrade Nashira or something I might take a look at those if they have more +haste.

Frankly I'm just really getting tired tired of "every mage" gear. It makes for a god aweful set when your trying to make pieces for BRD/SMN/WHM/BLM/RDM.

I hear the hat is now 2mp/tic I wonder if we'll get more Fast Cast on the body, fingers crossed.

The stuff about the Goliard is painful if true. Losing 4% haste is not acceptable. I would much prefer it if it was the mage body of choice for melee rather then focusing on other stats... other piece of gear in the set can do that.

I don't follow Red Mage melee perhaps as much as I should, but hearing about the Calmecac Trousers is kinda sad in a way. I generally look at mage melee from a White Mage perspective, and while the set isn't cheap even now, the HQ Blessed set pretty much sets the standard for a TP gear for White Mage.

Now, while I understand the "every mage" gear sets being not as good for some classes as others - maybe Summoners, Black Mages, and Scholars would be very impressed with those pants, the jobs with better access to melee gear, White Mage and Red Mage, should be asking "Why is this just a sidegrade?"

And maybe it would be acceptable on some level with some other gear - like those cure pants - any healer that isn't White Mage would be interested in them. But honestly, I don't see what giving a small upgrade compared to current gear would hurt... and one point in haste is a very big deal. Especially with the Goliard being up in the air...

Another reason this upsets me so much is that this goes beyond generic "every mage" gear.

Would it have killed them to make it Haste+6%? I mean, this is pretty much the love child of the AF1+1 and Blessed Mitts... If SE is going to be combining gear as the new standard for new gear, can we at least get the HQ gear combined?

Having this happen on one piece of gear might not make or break gear selection, but it is happening on multiple. I want a real upgrade on gear, not a slight one or a sidegrade that is mainly there for inventory space consolidation. :(

Then why did he publicly apologize about his involvement in FFXIV and resign his position.

Prior to that he pubicly announced he was going to work on FFXIV and that person who was lead battle designer would take over FFXI. That is the person who designed abyssea and later was tapped to go fix FFXIV.

That's just how companies do things sometimes. When a game flops that badly, someone needs to be fired or reassigned. It doesn't matter whether or not they did anything. They just need someone with a big spot on the credits to commit seppuku so that they can save face.

Even though he wasn't fired (obviously), and didn't actually lose very much, they made it feel like someone was punished for the mistake. He "took responsibility". That's all.

Except we've had several announcements about what's going in.

During FFXIV launch there was announcement that he was going to be working on FFXIV and that his "replacement" was the FFXI battle director. We got Abyssea, Emperian armor, Emperian weapons, super XP, super pretty much everything.

During the entire FFXIV development period Tanaka and team refused to listen to their beta testers. Things like a centralized AH, removal of the fatigue system, and several other game changes were requested repeatedly. Tanaka and crew said "yeah ... no". And thus FFXIV flopped.

While Tanaka is ignoring his beta testers, Matsui and his team have actually been listening to forum feedback and are looking for things the players like. Multiple updates ensue, many spells and abilities are added, epicness is made.

Then the whole Tanaka apologizing incident. Tanaka leaves as director of FFXIV and the "new" director is ... drum roll please ... Akihiko Matsui. The replacement director for Matsui is FFXI's abyssea designer Mizuki Ito. Level 95 update goes off, things seem ok. We haven't heard from Tanaka since his public apology for screwing up FFXIV. Then suddenly he started making press announcements and asserting that his "the man". FFXI developers have suddenly stopped listening to forum feedback from the players. A series of completely and utter crap is released. Interview comes out with Tanaka saying how much he hates what Matsui did even though it created revenue for him to screw up FFXIV.

Now myself, having lived and worked in East Asia going on eight years now, is pretty familiar with how business's "fire" people. Due to labor laws it's nearly impossible to fire someone once their a full time employee, they have to break the law basically. So what company's do instead is make people responsible for cataloging and maintaining "file 13" somewhere. Basically desk warming with no chance at advancement nor any form of responsibility, these people tend to retire the moment their eligible. In the west we just fire them and they leave with a nice exit package.

Somehow Tanaka managed to convince someone that he was still good for leading FFXI and they let him go back to running the show. Most likely has to do with under-staffing and the company not being able to afford having a high paid individual warming a desk in a corner. Tanaka will continue refusing to listen to players until 2Q FY2012 when the SE board reviews quarterly earnings statements. After over a year of red ink and losing millions on FFXIV their not going to be happy with more red ink and down profits from the cash cow that FFXI has been.

Akihiko Matsui became the "new" director of FFXI.

Mizuki Ito is the current director of FFXI.

Don't see how either of their appointments affect Hiroshimi Tanaka, the Producer, in any way.

As in producing FFXIV. His name may of been on a desk somewhere in the FFXI development shop, but I can guarantee he wasn't sitting in it.

I didn't miss that. It's totally impossible for him to be the producer on two games at once, though. Like seriously.

Well Invincible and Perfect Dodge makes it last 10s longer, so most likely it's some sort of duration buff to chainspell.

Cast Chainspell with it on... Seemed to just extend duration from 1:00 to 1:20

Enhances "Phalanx II" Effect isn't more damage resistance.

With +2 Gloves - 1000 needles did 968 so 32
With only +1 Gloves - 1000 needles did 968 so the same 32.

EDIT: It's a duration bonus, lasted 4.30~4.40 seconds. So I think it's safe to assume all of 'em will be Duration based.

Well, thanks for testing that... I honestly was expecting +1 damage resistance and SE somehow managed to disappoint me even that much.

Apparantly it's 8 second duration increase per merit... ouch! Dia III appears to have no potency increase.

Actually considering chainspell is one of the better 2hrs, more duration is a good buff. You can stay in god mode longer for more CSS, CS Nukeage, CS Skin / Utsu spam, or whatever floats your boat.

Body also happens to give +15 enhancing skill, thats the highest you can get on your body. Higher then the non-existant VWNM drop, or the multi-million gil NQ crafted body piece.

The hands enhance Phalanx II and provide +18 enhancing, 3 more then before. The head enhanced Slow II / Dia III, two of our best enfeebles on HNMs, along with being an outstanding enfeebling piece to begin with. Feet are amazing nuke piece.

Until Chainspell also grants infinite MP, its usefulness will always be fairly lackluster if you're not Stunning or doing something relatively inane with it. Who the hell chainspell spams Stoneskin/Utsusemi?

So useless augments? Good to hear. The devs need to start playing this game or something and playing the individual jobs, without GM powers where they can get random items. Just so they can see how awesome their ideas are. I think I'm actually offended by their choices in Red Mage as of lately.

No, that's actually good. The augment requirement isn't that severe, 20k xp in a particular dynamis area while the +2 armor is equipped, and by requiring trial completion, the armor can be stored WITH the augment.

As for the non-body enhancements, I think they add another tier to the merit upgrades, such as +30 duration and +3 effect on Phalanx II. If that's the case, the devs want you to go Phalanx II 5/5, Blind II 1/5, Paralyze II 1/5, Slow II 1/5, Dia III 1/5, Bio III 1/5 to make the most of it. (Augments would double duration on Dia III and Bio III that way.)

You should never be fulltiming any of these pieces on... pretty much any job.

It's been posted what the augments do, so you're completely wrong in your second paragraph too.

You only need 20k exp in dyna, worst case you'd macro them in just before death.

Only seen the augments listed, not any of the actual stats, so it was more like wishfull thinking... (missed out on FFXI for 2 weeks during holidays, so I'm catching up still.)

Now that I looked at some of the bonusses across jobs, some look better then +1 rank to merits, others are kinda meh, and RDM gets the short end of the stick with 10% duration boosts?
