That's not what that acronym stands for...
Keep it simple, stupid!
No, people should not adopt that principle. People should say what they need to say to get the job done. If you can't read a so called "wall of text, " then you have a problem with laziness. Some things just can't be made one/two liners.
Wall of text is just a complete slop of words in 1 giant paragraph. A well structured, long post is not a wall of text.
Well, I agree. But a lot of people treat both as the same thing.
I have a better suggestion. People should learn what punctuation marks, sentences, and paragraphs are intended to do. Long posts are often needed to explain a game mechanic or a situation. Posts that read like a kindergartener's essay on what he wants to be when he grows up are not needed and certainly not wanted.
For some people who post here English is a second or third language, and oddly enough, their posts are usually pretty simple to read. I assume this is because they put roughly two seconds of effort into making their posts readable. It's not hard!
I think people need to learn not to butt in on how people type. As their could be reasons for it. Like being disabled. My suggestion to the "community". Is look up the term "game" is. I just had some elitist just walk up to me in game and tell me I play dancer wrong abd that my "misguided ways" need to be "addressed". pretty much acting like their are my saviour and come to rid me of my noob ways.
Though said person never seen me play dancer and got this info from these forums. Then after several times being nice and saying no ty. While also asking for proof of how they are my one of the 2 best dancers on the server. they pretty much call me a lost cause.
Best way, do not speak for everyone. As no one play the game for the same reasons. I play just to have fun and relax I could care less of end game or having the best gear.
Anyway that my two cents and an example of a possible wall of text.
PS. I miss the old days of ffxi, when ppl actually played like as a game.
Yeah I saw the screen shot on FFXIAH of how the conversation went down, and honestly I laughed so hard! You honestly are a lost cause, and you're not contributing to this thread you are just down right complaining. Please next time just don't even speak ok? Most of us would appreciate less of a headache from you if you have nothing to actually contribute.
On to this thread, yes I agree with the majority. If you can't properly say what needs to be said in the right way, paraphrasing everything that is important even if it is lengthy, then stop typing like you are in kindergarten about to give your first essay on how mommy and daddy are the best!
some things call for a simple answer hell who even cares about grammer
Some things are much more intricate and take much longer to describe, require examples, or even essay format.
Personally, I very very rarely comment on people's typos and grammar mistakes. I'm fully aware that there is such a thing called dyslexia.
However, there's a huge difference between that, and the kind of posts which most of us here have a problem with - the major wall of texts, no paragraphs, often with little to no punctuation aswell. It makes it incredibly hard to read. If you have something you want to tell the community, please make a little effort so that your post is readable and people don't give up before they've even started reading it.
Personally, it also irks me when people say "u" instead of "you", "y" instead of "why" and when they don't know the difference between "your" and "you're". It's just..... sloppy and lazy, at least that's how I feel about it.
As for the rest of your post (the part I left out of the quote), wtf does that have to do with this thread's topic?
I fail to see a reason that allows people to type "u", "r", ect.
Y R U so mad?
I kid, but yes please to the no walls of text.
Also some people don't have keyboards ingame so abbreviating with Y and U are faster. However, on this forum, I will slap you for it.
My biggest issue in game or out of game is when people use l33t speak or however you spell it...and I use the word spell very loosly in this case.
I like to read. As long as the person posting has something interesting or meaningful to say I don't mind a wall of text. Most people that do that end up paraphrasing it anyway for the tl;dr people. It doesnt bother me much when people use y or u or r, but it does bother me when what they are saying stops making sense.
You're in a forum... you're EXPECTED to read. If you wanna go some where to keep it simple, go join a chat room or use twatter.
133T speak, the single biggest irritation in game. Why can't you just say Hi, yes, no? Even without a keyboard you can do that much. :)
I'm seriously not going to read a huge wall-of-text because people can't be assed to hit the enter key a few times and space their paragraphs. People who type like this need to realize that if they want people to read their posts much less take them seriously, they have to give their readers some breathing space between paragraphs.
It's simple basic stuff that any person who learned to read in grade school should have picked up.
lol, lul, lulz, lawl, lawlz, trolololol, its a deep and meaningful lexicon.Quote:
How about "lawl" instead of "lol"?
Keep it simple I like it but some people like too express there ideas that creats alot of words on a page.
^^ It be nice if they brain storm there ideas too less words^^ Then i wont fall asleep on a long thread read.
I don't mind big walls o' text, but in my opinion, it'd be a huge favor to everyone's eyes and brain if people broke down their ideas and such into paragraphs. Divide up your thoughts and make it clear when one stops and the next starts. Also, if you're being serious, don't forget about your grammar. Proper grammar makes things easier to read too. It doesn't have to be perfect, but please make it understandable. It's never fun having to read a sentence 4 or 5 times to figure out wtf you were attempting to say. Thanks ^^
Would anyone consider this post to be a wall of text? >_>
Just curious.
got to rdm melee skipped the rest *im j/k lol*
Good to know. Thanks. :P
