Temporary Suspension of the Services Due to an Earthquake

It doesn't matter if SE is racist, they only care about the Japanese, and they decided to take a moment of silence for the victims of the quake- It's still just a video game and some of you are weighing it against a real life tragedy. Even if you're right, you're still wrong. This game means nothing relative to the deaths of thousands of human beings. Even if SE just got sad and decided to kill the game forever, you all still need to grow up and gain some perspective.

The reality of it is that Japan needs to conserve power, so SE decided to shut down its FFXI servers to do just that. Does it suck for our selfish need to play FFXI? Sure. Should SE have servers in other locations? Maybe, we don't know the details of that situation. Regardless, it is what it is. The game needs to drain power in Japan to run, so the game has been suspended for a week or so. End of.

It doesn't matter how long it takes to get FF back up and running, what matters most importantly is that Japan gets back up and running. Luxury items such as FF can wait.

It gets worse, I just saw video on the news that their third unit has exploded but no radiation from it or something. And the new aerial videos of all the damage left over...where do you start to clean all that? Hate been powerless to help :(

Some people have no understanding how the world operates and if something were to out of the ordinary, they whine and complain. Today, I read a few posts from people who are so incredibly single minded that they disregard the respect for human life to fulfill their selfish needs of playing this game. It really saddens me to read of such things but I guess this is what makes us human, and when SE reads these forums those few bad apples will stand out even though a majority of the world sympathize the pain that mother nature can inflict. But I want to assure the people of Japan based on my experiences (and trust me I've been to many parts of the world) as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps that there good people in the world and they out weight the rotten ones by more than numbers can sum up, so please don't let these few ignorant individuals paint the wrong picture of how the majority of the world actually is.
To my friends, family and everyone affected by this: I pray and hope for your safety.
To my Marines stationed in Japan: You guys are probably working nonstop in the relief efforts since you normally respond to my emails promptly, so stay focused on the task at hand and know that you guys are doing a great thing. Semper Fi.

It was a hydrogen explosion similar to reactor 1, this was to be expected. The actual building is not the containment field and that itself remains intact and as long as it does so, there will be no disaster like Chernobyl.

Yes, i agree with Selzak does suck i mean i jus finished masamune i wanted to play with it more but meh it can wait the more important fact is japan gets back up n running 1. cause thats what they need for them, 2. cause there one of US's number 1 trade suppliers. Yes the singled minded selfish need is only part of human nature yeah they can be blamed for the actions but what can u do. We are only human and its whats gonna make the world go around. but i get what ur saying. i have some friend in japan as well that i know from this game. and some that are in the military. and i wish them luck and know there working non stop

If SE has a time turner and 2001 miraculously became 2003-4 (which I believe is when XI came out originally in America) that would be a concern.

Also, No offense - 9/11 happened in a 3-5 state area on the East Coast. Not an entire country, like is what is happening in Japan right now. (and before ANYONE yells at me about this - I had a friend die in the Pentagon, it touched me even though I was living in the Midwest at the time - but it did not directly affect me, physically, in the Midwest of the US. This is what I am saying. Please do not flame me over this.)

Please do not continue to show your ignorance by comparing natural disasters (which cannot be stopped) to man-made ones (like 9-11). SE did something for people that suffered in Katrina, it has been said here by someone who actually was helped by it. We have not had an earthquake this powerful on the US Mainland in many, many, many years. (Excluding Alaska, we're talking New Madrid series of Earthquakes in 1811-12, and the 1906 in SF)

If people feel the need to troll, write your post then walk away for an hour. Don't push send. When you get back, read it, and think "Does this really sound like me? or is this just something to make the situation worse or better?"

In my opinion if you seek laughter from anywhere on the basis of human suffering, that is a sign of sociopathy. Not to mention I am a mother, a woman, and have friends/family in Japan right now. In an earlier post, one of whom was missing until today. To be told his life was less important than a video game was a blow to , and that statement was a monstocity. I guess me being berated for my opinion of someone is okay, because it's important to take a troll's feelings into consideration? He may want to get some laughs at the expense of people who are really saddened by all events that have taken place. We are here for comfort. To offer it and get it by our fellow man. Those reactors will never work again because of the salt in the seawater beaing poured into the reactor. Japan has 55 reactors and 3 of them will never work again because of that. A small price to pay but I do know that Fukushima Daiichi had planned for a reactor 7 and 8 to be built...

Reactor 1 was the smallest reactor (producing only 460 MW) to go and reacto 3 being mild (producing only 784 MW). Any new reactors being built would push 1380 MW each.

Exactly do not compare whats going on in japan with what happen with 9-11 etc , i lost a friend due to katrina sucks yeah. As far as 9-11 no didnt lose anyone but i saw the plan hit the pentagon jus didnt know what to say. and if im not mistake this is the largest Earthquake recorded in history so far...?

There are 3 now? I kinda turned off cnn it was so bad yesterday I have taken a small break from news today. Last I thought it was 2. I wonder how much worse that issue will get before it atleast levels out.

Yes there are 3 now, i think one jus went recently. i dont have paitence to listen to the news to be completely 100% honest im jus going from what my friend is tellin me .

Japan isn't as big of a country as the US. So it doesn't seem as large scale bc it doesn't take up a large portion of our country. I used those as a point of referance, not to bring up and cause arguement. If that earthquake hit Cali, and not Japan, do you think they would stop FF11 like they are now? or any other country for that matter. I sound selfless, but its just fact that you can't pause something bc its happening to you and not do it out of respect to others. I understand the not billing out of the fact they can't provide service, but many will expect, and including myself, a reasolution to stopping this from happening in the future if they don't plan on pausing the game for other countries plights.

Fukushima Dai Ichi has 2 reactors with problems

Fukushima Dai Ni has 1 reactor with a cooling problem (What makes this one difficult to read is the water level gauges are broken and staff can't get an accurate reading. If any part of the core becomes exposed even for a brief second, the reactor can meltdown just like Fukushima Dai Ichi 1 and 3)

They aren't "pausing the game out of respect." It's a matter of energy consumption because the hardware is physically in Japan. They didn't even do this until days after the quake, so I don't understand how you could believe that it is being done out of some kind of favoritism.

If the game's primary server was in California, and California was struck by a natural disaster which forced the state to conserve whatever energy it had for essentials, then I have no doubt in my mind that SE would do the exact same thing.

Why are so many people so quick to jump to the most offensive possibility they can think of? Furthermore, why do those people just assume that they are correct to the point that they actually argue about it?

The contaiment fields have held each meltdowns so far and reactor 1 is cooling down. Highly unlikely there will be a radiation fallout similar to chernobyl.

I agree with them shutting the servers down. I and I am also very ok with using Aprils fee for a relief fund. And the add on idea is a good one as well. :)

Myrla any word on Kami yet? I hope hes ok was glad to hear the Others were ok!! I haven't been on early mornings to see them around for a bit. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan.

Some people (myself included) aren't trying to call people wrong and blah blah. I think it's more of an overwhelmed feeling, and shock at some responses. Not to mention Uneac, Hes the best part :).

Hello. I was able to take communication with brothers and the relative whom at last a telephone restored, and was in the distant place and confirmation of the safety today.

I think that I am lucky now only by there being life.
