I want a choice of :

Deca Scroll that caps a job skills.

Deca Brew that works anywhere.

Nah, FFXI will go out with a whimper, but not before the game spends 10 more years as a F2P game.

If by merged you mean you buy and subscribe to FFXIV and create a new character with the same look and same name while canceling your FFXI sub then yeah.

LOL - FF14 Version 2.0, cannot wait to see how this turn out. And what they plan to do with FFXI. So far they have no intention of doing anything to FFXI that is remotely fun and enjoyable other than your usual grindtastic spectacular.
