You know, those are the VNM mobs.
Though it makes you wonder... where does the Abyssea VNM mobs come from? Is there yet another dimension we could carry over into?

Abyssea was a nice change for ffxi yes, and it was alot of fun. But no more, please, I think in the end it did more harm, but that is my own personal opinion. I've never kept it secret that I think abyssea has destroyed any skill the playerbase had, and has put some pretty big inequalities among the jobs. The way the game is now, there is no reason to play anything but what are considered the useful jobs, and there is no reason to do anything outside of abyssea even if you want to.
Abyssea was very much a letdown in the fact that it was just recycled zones, with a weak storyline. The 'quests' were just doing what you'd do even if they werent quests. Kill the zone bosses, kill the caturae etc. About the only thing that counted as a quest was just going between jeuno and la theine or hall of the gods then listening to some speech.
The game is incredibly easy now as a result of abyssea, and that is both good and bad. Jobs can go from 1-90 in days now, and you could merit 1-2 jobs completely after just one abyssea pt. Then what is there to do?
Abyssea has hardly any plot or challenge. We are supercharged, which was fun for a while, but now it just makes farming things like seals and such pretty damn boring. You could leech up every job you have to 90 and probably still play only 1-2 of them because of the way the game works now. Yes abyssea was great for a while, but its done now, lets move on and have something new and better. I would rather 1 more full expansion than 20 more of these little addons. The only way I would want new abyssea zones is if, as said by others already, it was an entirely NEW zone.
Sure, if by "greatest" you mean "worst". Players are even more overpowered now than when exp turned from fighting mobs that could fight back into "slaughter a helpless pink bird every 30 sec -> omgwtfexp!!" ToAU, ultimately, was a huge letdown from the CoP era in challenge and sense of accomplishment, and WotG did little or nothing to change that (although the jobs from those expansions are cool additions to the game).
And Abyssea made it worse. The power level of mobs is drastically inadequate compared to the huge buffs in player power from 15 levels, new gear, cruor buffs, and atma, and the result is that almost everything is a pushover. For a lot of NMs, farming a pop set takes longer than actually fighting the mob, and there's little or no risk involved in either.
We need more difficult content that is appropriate to the power level of 90+ players, but that's not likely to come while they also have atma (and especially brew). So the true endgame should be outside abyssea (which will then be a good way to get through the middle levels fast, rack up some merit points, and get some decent gear to start on the real endgame content for 90+).
Remember doing CoP Dynamis at 75, or some of the harder Limbus runs, and how a well-organized group would have to perform at their best to succeed? I want that feeling again, not "everyone stand back and don't kill this NM too fast before we get the right proc".
