Just an update, the plasm jug is weaker hitting and has worse accuracy than the old jugs. Has as much defense as raphie and takes about half damage after scissor guard, but it can't get or hold hate with it's pitiful damage, even when you're snarling onto it. W.T.F.
Clearly designed w/ the Bee and other Naakul Axe in mind /rollseyes. Here's hoping the Chapuli one wont suck!
I am disappointed in the new jugs, especially compared to the increase other pet jobs got. I mean sure it's a good upgrade, just seems like the pets should be doing a bit more damage.
was trying the delve crab pet and ya i was disappointed. they need to fix the bst pet because it nothing like how the alternator (pup), Dashavatara Sash (smn) is. these pets that 2k plasma is a joke:(.
Played with the grasshopper today. Not a horrible pet.. Stronger than bunny but seems a bit weaker, if not, on par with Tiger which is pretty sad considering the Tiger caps at lv 114 while grasshopper is 119 (Using Kerehcatl Axe). He is however a lot more durable. I was able to chain a few ITs in Marjami Ravine. Sanguinary Slash (Max HP Down) would've really made this useful in delve bosses but he cannot use it. I don't think the Devs like the idea of Pets with enfeebling moves considering Slug and Lizard are now lost to the level cap and Hopper's best ability was removed. My dreams of a future Giant Bat and Beetle jug seems like a fantasy now... All I see are crabs.
Two crab jugs in one update does seem baffling. I guess HeraldHenry was just too awesome an idea at the SE offices for them to ignore.
If you ask me, we need some ViciousVorahal action around here. What am I to do when my SwiftSeighard caps at Level 94/109 SE? Start calling a bunch of crabs? Do I look like a crab master? (No offense to the seaworthy BSTs around here).
Well, at least Falcorr is remaining Faithful. And Mavrick, there's a new(ish) beetle I noticed in the Yahse Hunting Grounds. They should give that to you, it is kinda cool looking.
I feel you, as a BST myself, But you guys need to realize, as far as pet jobs go, BST has always been in the best position. Which i know is like winning the SE-Gimpolympics, But the point remains, these pets weren't going to make BST inviteable or super wtf, just like PUP and SMN are still pretty useless jobs despite the buffs they got.
I mean, PUP and SMN are more awesome, But they aren't getting party spots over other jobs still (Partially due to Player stupidity when it comes to PUP and MNK but we'll let that slide for now...)...
REGARDLESS, The point I'm trying to make is, your Pets got the exact same treatment as other pet jobs, Increased Stats/Level (Your pets now go above level 100 Like ours). Automatons level is linked to Animator now, and Pets to the new Ammo, Your is linked to main hand weapon ( I think?), So every pet job got the bonus of having level ~120 Pets (Except smn cause fk those guys)... Um... What I think I'm getting at is these new pets were meant to give us new pets, not exactly give us something like that barnacle crab lol...
The real power you'll see from pets is when you get a Main Hand weapon level 115+, Which will significantly boost the pets survivability and damage output (Especially in places like Dynamis on DC mobs)... So While I don't think you'll be seeing 5k pet WS, I don't think that was the point.... BST is already a strong job, and its pets are the best of all current pet Jobs... so coupled with your amazing Axe/Master DD potential and (once you have the proper main hand weapon) a boosted pet, You'll probably start to love some of these new pets.
P.S Crab pet is still sucktastic, I know Scissor guard makes it a boss for tanking but its DPS needs to be upped. But also try to remember the Delve pets weren't the real "Boost" BST got, the Main-Hand level matching was. GOODLUCK :D
PS JUST SO I MAKE IT CLEARER, SAYING BST IS THE AWESOMEST PET JOB I KNOW DOESN'T MEAN MUCH, I"M JUST SAYING THEIR BOOST WAS OBV GOING TO BE SMALLER BECAUSE THEY ARE ALREADY THE MOST POWERFUL OF THE PET JOBS WHEN IT COMES TO PET DAMAGE/ALL AROUNDNESS.... thats a word now.
Current testing shows that the pets are still capped at certain levels, and only fully augmented Monster gloves +2 with 5/5 beast affinity merits allow you to use them at all. The rabbit is level 103 and your weapon doesn't raise it's stats in any way. The same thing with Mafik at 104 and Scissorleg at 105.
Every other pet job has their pets increase in strength with stronger gear, but it is an outright lie when they said the same about BST. All your weapon level does is impose a maximum strength cap, a ridiculous concept when they implemented it with pet level caps, in the first place.
If you have a Kerecathl, the highest level axe in the game at 119, you only have 3 pets at your level, Mafik, the Chapuli, and Henry. Dortwin was obsolete before even being added to the game because he caps out below 119 even with all the beast affinity you can muster.
Scissorleg and MAfik's level caps of 104/105 plus 15 levels from monster glove augmented 5/5 Beast affinity will leave them behind the very second the next axe is added to the game. Meaning we will only have Henry as the only level appropriate jug pet. Henry, the weakest of all of our pets, just like we were stranded with just Carrie at 75. Henry, the jug that costs more than all the bullets a RNG will use in his entire career.
I just did a Ravine Wildskeeper Reive. I went through 2 stacks of jugs in the process. (A PUP's alternator doesn't explode and have to be replaced every time the PUP is K.O.'ed, I wonder why my jug does.) At 2000 plasm per jug, that's 48,000 plasm. That means to do a 2 hour event like this, I have to gather an alliance of people and farm fractures for 12 straight hours to buy the only level appropriate pet available to me.
The correct response is to remove all pet level caps and simply let the master's stats bleed over to their pet. The lazy response is to give us an ammo slot item like SMN has that raises all pets stats to a certain level. Since the reason our jugs are consumables is to spur inter-player transactions of crafted goods, the very least acceptable solution is to replace the jug of translucent broth, with a cape or belt that dispenses a stack of translucent broth every 10 minutes, with infinite charges. If we are purchasing them from an NPC and bypassing other players entirely, there's no reason for these jugs to ever be consumed in the first place.
While your point on monster levels Is valid, Its not the one i was trying to make. I was addressing the topic of conversation, read: Pet combat ability. Their Levels being capped is a whole new level of stupid that I personally didn't want to get into cause its a big ol can of worms :|
I'm hoping they fiddle with Charm so that it uses iLvl as the EM baseline when present.
A Beastmaster walked out in the gray light and stood and he saw for a brief moment the absolute truth of the world. The cold relentless circling of the intestate earth. Darkness implacable. The blind crabs of the sun in their running. The crushing black vacuum of the universe. And somewhere two nearly level-capped jug pets trembling like ground-foxes in their cover. Borrowed time and borrowed world and borrowed eyes with which to sorrow it.
You were trying to say our pets get stronger with equipment. This is false. Our equipment can only make our pets weaker, as they can't exceed the level of the weapon. Our pets are the same strength they were before, even the new ones. (their offense is the same or weaker, they have more defense, but that doesn't really matter as they can't tank.)
The only thing that made our pets stronger was removing the "No pet can exceed level 99" restriction from Beast affinity. And that won't cut it in 2 weeks when the new delve areas arrive and we get level 129 axes, making the master level 129, but the pet remains level 103.
Puppets, wyverns and avatars get stronger with stronger equipment. If a SMN equips a Sash, it's avatars are raised to level 113. If a PUP Equips an alternator, it's puppets stats are increased to a level equivalent to level 120. (Capped ACC and ATT on Hurkan says hello.) If a DRG equips the level 119 spear, his wyvern increases in level to 119. Jug pets do not. If I equip a Kerecathl,(level 119) Dortwin is still level 103, as if I was using a Faizeer. Hell, if I equip an Aalak's axe, it gets decreased in level to 100. Why is this, when SE stated exactly the opposite? They couldn't have even implemented the same damn change they gave to DRG, but for BST?
I believe it's based on the highest level piece of equipment that you are wearing (exp will be based on the highest piece worn at any point during the fight).
If your weapon is not the highest piece of gear, your level will keep going up and down if you are macroing the highest piece in and out. No idea how this would affect charm though.
Yay I'm not the only one who is mad about how bst got shafted hard with the pet buff updates. Seriously I've gotten my jugs to lvl 113 just like smn can and it's not even close. Those blm avatars melee sooooooooooo much harder than my supposedly lvl 113 jug. Not to mention testing has shown only like 6-7 hp per lvl. And on top of that all the other jobs just equip while bst has to equip merit and augment... and still be lower stat increase than other jobs at the same lvl and being capped lower... wtf SE
We still need new pets so we don't have to be the only job that on top of needing ilvl needs merits and augments to boost our pets.
Of course there is also the combat ability thing to go over. See a smn go to yorica and kill IT++s with basically just a bp. While my jugs at the same ilvl get eaten alive
Clearly the age of hippogryphs, slugs and other assorted wildlife was too much of a good thing.
Also, it seems BST is excluded from SE's merital-mantra of "choices!" Our "choice" of 5/5 Beast Affinity or severely underleveled pets is rather suspect. But, maybe that's just me reveling in my crabby attitude at the moment.
I clearly lost interest in FFxi as of lately and miss playing bst because of the rivalry. Not even the new expansion got me interested. What's this I hear that SoA pet are restricted or limited to that particular expansion...?
Are we getting these ridiculous pet half our size and don't do anything special while soloing or in pty? Can bst have their own exclusive mount, like charm-to-ride-and-escape? I'm sure smn needs some love too but "meh", I'm not a mage.
I'm sure a lot of players like me feel the same and need incentive to return... I'm sure my friends are hating me ATM XD
Bst are amazing outside of the Seekers expansion. The pet droopy in dyna is crazy damage on foot damage. , Now your more powerful then ever outside the expansion, Just in seekers your know longer feeling liker your playing a Beastmaster anymore.
Your jug pets in seekers are just fodder now, mainly you are using the pets to put on debuffs to the mobs and hope they stick. When ever you attack the mob most of the time now days in seeker the mob will aggro you off your pet. Need to make sure you got a tank gear set up on you in seekers . Since it is difficult to get hate on the pets to stay. Dawn mulsums and your reward or any pet ability can cause the pets to lose hate on the tougher mobs and hit you.
Even if you charm easy prey in the new expansion. The charm pets are still , on the timers that are saying there toughs or it++.
SMN and PUP's are both amazing now.
Seriously, Please DEVS please JUST MAKE BST SUCK LESS FOR PARTIES. THANK YOU.
Even just make it suck less in Seekers overall please.
