Thanks for making me sure that I was not making up laws that come in play during disasters. I knew something existed just was not sure exactly what that was or how it worked.

Thanks for making me sure that I was not making up laws that come in play during disasters. I knew something existed just was not sure exactly what that was or how it worked.
As someone who was more annoyed about Gosick being delayed than everyone who died, had their home destroyed, etc, i can't believe someone made this thread.
OP you are 99.9% what is wrong with the world. You are a selfish self-centered little worm.
Why don't you take a look at this http://www.abc.net.au/news/events/ja...eforeafter.htm and get a look at what's really going on over there. This is the worst disaster they've experienced since WWII.
People are dead, people are trapped, some people are without food and/or water. They are dealing with rolling mandatory blackouts now. I would rather SE shut the servers down and the people of Japan could get electricty for cooking and heat and things they need. You are a horrible excuse for a human being.
MOST of us players would rather SE shut the servers down for a while for the better of humanity over there. Don't worry you'll see your damn tarutaru/Galka/Elvaan/Mithra/Hume soon enough. If you're worried about not being able to perform self-gratifying acts without seeing mithras running around... try real porn for a change.
Or better yet crawl back into the hole you came from.
Some of us have real live friends over there we are worried about and have not heard from. Some of us have real live friends over there we have heard from but they are still dealing with a lot right now, while you sit in your comfy house without a care in the world. I agree with a previous poster, you should be sent over there to help clean up.
To Be Honest...I would rather be there with them then here having to listen to total morons like you!!
Wow. Your and idiot.
hey what's wrong with wanting to see mithras running around?
I think when the servers do go back online that your account remains inactive... However, I would think SE will be the better half of this and allow you to put that needle back in your vien so hard it bleeds... Step foot outside and get rid of some of that paleness.
I'm rather sickened by the OP; You really expect datacenter staff to stick around to push the off buttons and shut everything down when a natural disaster is in progress?
Use the next week to realign yourself with real life.
FOR GOD SAKES SE PLEASE READ AND COMPLY WITH WHAT I'M ASKING YOU TO DO IN THIS POST.
We have to log into FFXI forums with our account info, so please, take the starter of this post and ANYONE else who even TRIES to whine about not being able to play this game for a week, possibly more, AND GET RID OF THEM FROM FFXI FOREVER. Thank you.
I honestly mean this, people like this are exactly like bugs when they hit your windshield. Their brains are in their ass. Please for the the love of God, get rid of these selfish, pig-headed, morons.
I think it would be an awesome thing if when they do turn the servers on.... "oops, you're Umbrion? sorry we lost your account info.... <click>". And the same to any other idiot who is angry with SE for placing human life over someone's game addiction.
Thank you.
this actually works out... my girlfriend has the next week of work off for her birthday and i was trying to think of a way not to ignore her and play ffxi....
thank you natural disasters :P
you saved my relationship
To the OP, and Groupitou.......there will be a special place in hell for the both of you. Seriously, you two need to go step in front of a bullet train or something. The removal of you two from this plane of existence will make the world a much better place.
My sincerest sympathies to the people of Japan. I was amazed at the amount of destruction and the pictures/videos of the devastation. I fully understand the reasoning behind SE's decision to shut down the servers for a week, and I fully support the decision.
If they can ban someone from the game for "troll" posts on here, surely they can do the same for incessant QQing about the server outage. Though they could more or less fall under the same category.
People like this only serve to perpetuate the fallacy that we gamers are too far disconnected from reality to care about this kind of thing. If a period of downtime due to something beyond anyone's control, then you've got bigger problems than who beats you to claiming Gukumatz/Heqet/whatever.
Wah wah, you go live in the disaster. See how you like playing FFXI with a house on top of you, literally crushing your insensitive brain.
Most of you raging on OP have lead very sheltered lives, really he didn't even say anything bad. Just an addicted MMO player locked out of the game he wants to play, most of the people replying will be thinking the exact same thing by the end of the week when it's extended.
If you lived in a country where you weren't babied and get pretty much everything you want with rights out the wazoo you would see just how horrible and harsh humanity really is, this post making you lose faith in it is a joke compared to what actually goes on every single day.Quote:
Slowly losing faith in humanity... >.>
If this is the worst you've seen you ain't seen nothing, people are capable of the worst most horrible uncaring acts imaginable. Go live in a 3rd world country for a while, that'll give you a whole other outlook on how horrendous people can truely be.
Either the OP was a troll (and I'm not taking the bait) or an imbecile (and I'm not going to lend credence to his post with a direct response).
The shutdown, to me, reemphasized the inarguable, immutable fact that FFXI is a game, an amusement and folly that exists nowhere other than SE's cluster of servers. Those who forget that fact, and cling to FFXI as though it were something real and meaningful, do so at their own peril.
Honestly, I felt creepy playing during the period between the earthquake and the shutdown, knowing that all hell was breaking loose outside the server on which my placid little fantasy world resided.
With an appropriate adjustment in billing, of course, I wouldn't mind SE shutting the game down for a week every quarter: players could reconnect with their lives and SE could work on the game and infrastructure without the pressure of five-nines uptime. The only downside I could see is that once some players are forced to find another diversion -- or, perhaps, rediscover reality -- they may not come back to the game.
Just my $0.02...
Some facts here.
Size of Japan : 145,925 square miles
Size of California : 163,696 square miles
So the country is a little bit smaller than the state of California, and they can not just drive across the border into another state, or borrow electricity from their neighboring states easily. I'm sure they can do so, but I'm sure the grid across country lines is no where near as extensive as it is over state lines.
Populations:
California : 37,253,956
Japan : 127,360,000 (yes, that's almost over 3x)
Tokyo : over 30,000,000 (so yes, almost as many people as the entire state of California, in the city and it's suburbs)
With those numbers just imagine how much more power Japan uses than California does. I'm sorry, my time in FFXI is in no way, shape or form more important that a hospital that I'm sure is overwhelmed in Japan right now. Nobodies time in a video game is more important than that.
The quake that hit Japan on the 11th was a 8.9 or a 9.0
The Northridge earthquake in 1994 was a 6.7 (the quake in japan was over 100x more powerful) and caused $20 billion dollars damage. 11 hospitals had to move their patients elsewhere and overburden the hospitals that were still operational. Freeways were collapsed making travel difficult (but not impossible). And there was no Tsunami after.
Japan needs every bit of power it can get to help those hurt in the quake and tsunami - and then to help make sure something like the Valley Fever breakout that happened after the Northridge quake does not happen there.
If it turns out they need to keep the servers down longer than a week I'm fine with that. Until they can say for certain that my playing time will not cause a power outtage due to the disruption caused by the quake/tsunami where a single person would be hurt in any way I say keep the servers down.
OP do not deserve any kind of service from japan in any near of future, also note the lack of apologize from him after this post... He clearly show no sympathy to anyone except his own self-person.
I really hope his account get ban and make him find the time to discover the real world around him.
Even if game would die due to this disaster, i would not complain... Seriously, i hope this week break will set back people mind...
FFS, can any MOD lock this thread.
WOW, All I can possibly think is that the OP is an RMT & afraid that he will not make enough money selling Gil in two of his games that he will not be able to pay his bills. It is the only reasonable explanation for him to think this way. I could care less if I can't play FF for a month cause of the current situation. take you time coming back SE we will all be here for the return & understand that there is alot of more important things going on then worrying about getting your servers back up & running.
i have no problem with them shutting down for a week, there is more important things to power then some silly server like hospitals and temp housing for displaced families. besides when they do bring servers back i should have atleast 21 more traverse stones to waste farming in they crack zone of abyssea.
Each whole number increase in the Richter scale is a tenfold increase in power over the number before it (it's a logarithmic scale). a 8.9 is a lot more than 100% more powerful.Quote:
(the quake in japan was over 100% more powerful)
Isn't the OP the troll also known as Chinafarmer over at the zam formus?
6.7 -> 8.9 is just over 2 whole points.
10X then 10 X again is 100 x right?
it's been a hella long times since hs. ; ;
To anyone who things Japan is being selfish, dumb, or any other negative comment about shutting down FFXI for a while
Yes your right, bad things happen everyday to a lot of people who do not deserve it and no1 say anything from JPs side or whatever you think they should do because of said horrible thing. So your right on that one small, very small sense.
Now how wrong you are goes as followed. They are having mini earthquakes repeatedly still going on, they have no stable and true functioning power grid, their nuclear power plant is getting coolant from other nations, to my knowledge a lot of places are still underwater, also to my knowledge more water is coming in, and a lot of people are missing and I do mean a lot.
I think they deserve a break, a pat on a back, and someone to say "You need some help?"
P.S. Also I am sure there is a lot more that has been happening but I have been busy myself for 2 days so I am sure I missed the most recent updates for whats going on atm.
Why does it not surprise me that yet another sad pointless CRETIN cannot fathom the devestation caused by this event, I cannot begin to imagine the trauma and worry the people of japan are going through right now my heart goes out to you............... I just hope that one day this poor sad and lonely individual as well as anyone else who feels the same will reflect on what has happened, just for a moment................ and realise how fortunate they are not to be a victim.
HAVE SOME RESPECT YOU F#=@ING LOWLIFE!!!
Square Enix's decision to shut down the game servers is bold, courageous, and worthy of respect. I urge my fellow players to embrace this decision, and allow Square Enix to assist Japan in any way it can. Criticizing a decision to shut down a game so others can have electricity during a natural disaster is absolutely incomprehensible.
I'm sure that there were procedures in place that led to this decision. They probably weighed their energy consumption to make sure that it was valid that they shut down the servers. You can't expect them to shut everything down with a split second decision.
For the OP: You seam like a little kid with too much time on your hands... and ignorant.
im going to saythis quick and sum up alot of points in one short statement.
I live in america, we are sending support to japan.
when has ANY country sent support to help us? when has ANY country came to OUR aide in a time of natural disaster?
Hurrican Katrina? nah didnt think ANYONYONE sent aide to help us.
dont troll me over not being involved in any of this. i could give a care less what thier status of their nuclear reactors are.
for all i care let em meltdown and blow up.
they will have to learn how to plan for such other emergencies.
dont post anything saying i dont care. it sucks boo hoo move someplace else where your not affected so rebuilding can begin.
Just because it does not effect me, i dont HAVE to care.
I dont see anyone caring about my financial / personal problems when im in trouble.
GTFO and Grow up please.
EDIT: dont say i dont have any empathy either. i just could care less
I was rather shocked that the game was still working after the quake. Amazing how resiliant the Japanese communication infrastructure is.
The reason why the servers were able to run is due to a few factors.
- Power reserves (which are now exhausted)
- It was the weekend so the power consumption via industries would not be so high
- They were expecting to be able to bring the reactors that had automatically shut down back up (not watch them overheat and inch towards a partial meltdown)
I'm going to be bored all week, but my boredom is pretty unimportant given what's going on in Japan right now. Earthquake. Tsunami. Nuclear disaster. Most nations would be overwhelmed with just ONE of those happening let alone all three. I say SE did the morally/socially responsible thing and respect them all the more for it.
To those that call me a troll simply because it makes me angry that people even in a small way think a game is more important then real life, all you do is prove me correct. Block me if you like, but i'm a brash person and will speak my mind whether anyone likes it or not. Yes, I have suggested SE ban people that have whined about this server downtime, and for good reason. These people are more then likely the very same people that whine and cry when they don't get a drop in-game before others.... or when something doesn't go their way. People like this are a plague not only in the game of FFXI, but leeches that take what is good in life and destroy it for their own gain. It makes me angry that people put themselves before people that are dead, and the families that don't even know where their loved ones that are missing may be. The best punishment for you would be to be made to go through the horror of what they are going through right now. And I certainly wish that upon you.
They are selfish, ignorant jerks. And someone needs to tell em off.
So if I'm a troll because I stick my neck out to tell people off that NEED to be told off. So be it. I'm a troll then.
Wrong.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interna...ricane_KatrinaQuote:
The Japanese Foreign Ministry said that it would provide $200,000 to the American Red Cross to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina. Japan also identified needs in affected regions via the U.S. government and provided up to $300,000 in emergency supplies such as tents, blankets and power generators if they receive requests from the U.S. for such assistance. One Japanese individual, Takashi Endo, donated USD 1 million from his personal funds to Katrina relief efforts.[13]
And Japan was not the only one, I only quoted their part because we are talking about Japan here.
I think what SE is doing is right. I support them 100%. Even if the game never returns (completely unlikely) I will continue to support them in this.
I recently went through a disaster of my own (house fire on christmas). So I can somewhat understand what some people are going through in Japan. This isn't a time for people to be thinking of themselves (so to the poster and anyone else who agrees with him.. STOP BEING SELFISH!). SE is just thinking of what Japan NEEDs right now. They need to conserve power for hospitals, for shelters (for those who lost homes), for food storage units.. etc..
On a side note. I am not surprised at people's selfishness. I've seen them do it in game. I was hoping it was just limited to in game. I see it is not. But something for those people to think on, and SE somewhat notes it EVERY time u log in. Do not forget family/friends/job. In otherwords: This game is not EQUAL and never will be EQUAL in VALUE to a HUMAN life... So stop thinking about the game!
Sorry I am known for my ranting. And selfishness (especilly in a time like this) really sets me off. I could go on, but then I would lose topic (if i havent already).
I'll repeat myself. Put yourself in their shoes. Would you let a natural disaster that's happening on top of your house take your own life with a controller in hand? Personally I'd drop the controller immediately and find safety. My life's more important than this game, and the employees are reacting to the same reason I'd dropped the controller.
