14 shares as little similarity to XI as possible, aside from being set in FF universe, being an mmo, and mob types. Combat works completely differently. Transportation works very differently. You'll probably never ask for a d2 in that game.
Commerce works different. Controller functions work different. 14 is not by any stretch a party-grinder where that's all XI was pre-abyssea.
And I, for one, would welcome an XI v2.
Umm, so you're saying.... just at a glance.... that they're a fishbot because they only have RotZ?
EDIT: Right what I meant to post was to RAIST:
I must have missed the part where you specified only XV (no matter though). It wouldn't be the first time SE would re brand a entry into the series though, I mean it would be pretty reasonable to assume that every jump to a new console the market went through saw ideas and work shifted to the newer platform. I would say given the proliferation of information and the Internet age we live in we just saw that kind of awkwardness on display for the first time. Doesn't make it more unsettling but just how I view it as I take a step back from it.
True....if you actually play the game, you will pick up on all those changes (I was in the original Beta). But, as I was saying...it looks much more similar to FFXI now than it ever did before. Watch the trailers and the new benchmark tool some more. Try to view it from the perspective of someone not familiar with 14, who has only played XI and aren't already aware of the different mechanics in 14 and will be comparing it directly to their experience with XI. There are a lot of things that look more or less like XI revamped into HD--it wasn't like that in the original trailers/benchmark. Carbuncle is one such example...at least the other avatars we've seen got radically revamped models (crabs are another that look like they just got resampled into HD)...these are the more obvious examples, many more can be found if one looks closely.
It was considerably more obvious with the previous media releases that 14 was a whole new animal, which was a larger part of it's draw. With these new content releases, it appeared more like SE is trying to draw more people in by presenting it more as a reborn FFXI realm in HD, and less of a focus on it being a rebirth of the vastly different FFXIV. Kind of goes against all they proclaimed to be shooting for originally--a new game instead of a rewrite of an older one. Thus my reference to the X > X-2 mess. Looked very familiar on the surface, but was vastly different once you started playing. Disappointed a lot of people that tried the sequel hoping for more of what they liked in FFX, and in large part why it got so much criticism. Hopefully we don't get the same backlash with 14 ARR from people less familiar with the newer project.
Really how so? I think they should just change it to forever, because with Abyssea's lack of interest in Atma getting and such now people who are just starting out need the free start to help out. Besides that, the free entrance to Abyssea is a stupid idea, the cheapest version of the game includes Abyssea in it, who doesn't have it?
