I just liked every post on this thread! No seriously, I did.
I've noticed the same thing as Karbuncle, but more about dev announcements. When stuff gets announced on the NA forums, the forum rep who posts it gets 20 or so likes. On the JP forums, it's more like 100+ likes even for crappy little stuff. I think there's a lot of factors involved in this, but the biggest one is they just enjoy hitting that like button for any reason.
They see it as a "this person has at least one good idea and/or I like this person" button. We see it as a "only click this button if you agree with EVERYTHING said in this post AND EVERY OTHER post by this person AND there are no serious spelling or grammatical errors" button. Which is why I "liked" the hell outta that thread a while back which suggested changing what the "like" button was called.

Even the most cynical observer of the feedback system must concede it is extremely unlikely that a boatload of (^^)b for a given complaint or suggestion would make the developers less likely to address it.

I have been trying to be more liberal with the likes even with posts I only partially agree with.
What's funny to me is that rep posts will get lots of likes even for things the community seems vehemently opposed to. I guess reps get credit just for posting?
One thing though when they do a poll for something like new BST pets, they need to do it as a poll. Only actual votes count and all votes carry the same weight no matter the region. In fact all votes from all regions should just go straight to the same pool.

It feels like I've been seeing reminders from the NA reps to hit the like button lately too, so its probably a big deal to them.

it's rather interesting, when I tried to tell people if they agreed with an idea to hit like someone tried to say it made no difference at all and now I see this ~smh~
