Hello, im German and when i read this thread from begining to see what kind of respond do Americans give to the horrible things happen in Japan i first thought "oh, thats alot Posts in this thread, im happy that there is so much condolence from America"
But after i had read the first 20 Posts i just thought "Wtf? Are American really that ... by sending such horrible posts"
Some of the Posts in this Thread are disgusting, Japan is in pain right now and trying everything to stop the nuclear disaster, even 50 Japanese give them lives away to cold the Reactors down, to save Japanese and American lifes.(yes yours too, becouse the nuclear cloud can reach America)
And some of the American ppl here are complaining that the game isnt runing! WTF???
Wake up ppl, this is no cinema production, its real, and we only got one world, one place to live on.
Cant you see how far this can go if the Problem isnt resolved soon?
So instead of complaining give your Condolence or help!

You actually don't need to have a Security Token to sign up/log in to this forum. While the method to input your security code is located beneath the two other log in requirements, it is only required to those who have their SE accounts sync'd with said token.

Just because there aren't any whiny Germans here to post doesn't mean that they don't exist lmao. Americans have a huge population in FFXI and thus you will get both sides of the coin. I feel stupid for having to explain this to you but here you go. First i thought, hey look how much they post becouse they are really worried, and i was disapointed that the german Posts in the german section arent at such high number.
But then I see that 50% of the posts are fumes or complains, and then i thought, better we dont say alot than complaining about such nonsense like alot of ppl do here.

I give my condolence to everyone affected by the diaster in japan, as well as my friends who live there in and out of ffxi. Finally decided to post this while I eat and take a break from the quilting project I am working on. My church donates lots of relief items all over the world when things like this happen, but they are short some.

So if people want something to do while the server is down, go to the Red Cross or a Humaniarian Society you know who is helping out Japan in their time of need. Please don't just sit on a computer or just donate money, give your time I was raised that it is the best way to show you really mean the help.

In the end, you're still stereotyping. You expect no one to be angry at you just because you are disgusted/angry at those that are saying offensive things? That's a pretty twisted logic. You may not be saying we're all like that but you are still connecting the word "Amercian" with those who are saying offensive things. That in and of itself, is offensive.

1) They may not be "American" just because they speak English (if you think about it: you're German, speaking English)
2) I hate labelists :/ You label people based upon a single aspect, from there that's all they'll ever be to you, skewing your point of view.
3) Arguments along the line of "If I say bad things about Americans they'll get angry but if I say they're great, they'll agree! What's wrong with them!" ...Are you seriously saying that you don't understand how it might be possible to judge people individually and not as a group? If there is some kind of language barrier that makes this concept hard for you to understand then that is genuinely disconcerting.

How about: "This ghost is good."
Oh, and: "This poster is being inconsiderate."
Or you could say: "These posters[list of posters] are being inconsiderate."

Their nationality, or any group that they're a part of, should only be mentioned if it is relevant to what you're saying about them. There are people here (much less than 50%) who are more concerned with the game than the situation in Japan, but that's only because you're looking at a small group of people (many of whom live in this game) who may be young, immature, and/or disconnected from reality.

Here's some logic for you:
On a FFXI forum, you will see an abnormal amount of people voicing their opinions about FFXI. People who aren't concerned about the game being down (still the vast majority on this forum) will be less likely to post about it here and make their opinions heard in the first place.

Outrage at being proven wrong is all that is happening now. (Note: Despite quoting Selzak, this post is a response to Zeitzone) When I said "Labelist" it was a deliberate poke at being ironic, to show the reaction one has when they are labeled something (even if that label is being called one who labels others or groups them with other individuals).

Zeitzone, you are right to be happy that the German forums have less posters, otherwise immature and insensitive and offensive German individuals would be doing the exact same thing as the immature and insensitive and offensive "American" individuals.

Other than my previous post:

I'll continue on the Labelist subject. Actions are either good or bad (not necessarily the people who do them, there is good and bad to everyone, labeling some one bad or good over a single action is what it is to be a labelist) but when you go about labeling one person into a group that other people belong to (i.e. "Americans") you are proving that all you personally know is hate. You are throwing all the negativity of what single (or perhaps a few) individuals upon a single word, just to displace your anger on a single word rather than a single person. That is what stereotyping is, in essence. Concentrating your disgust upon a single label, disregarding that it is hardly proven that those words are common amongst the actual group of people you are associating that insensitive and offensive person with. We have every right to get angry, when you are comparing and intertwining us with something, we also, despise.

Those words don't even fully define that individual person let alone every person that has some minute detail in common with them. Do you like a particular sport? Let's say soccer for the sake of the example. What if that insensitive person also likes soccer? Are both of you as soccer fans, assholes by default because of one person's alarming words? I think not.

If the rolling power outages are continuing till at least 6th April as stated earlier in this forum do SE have any plans to move the Servers? I know its selfish but since the servers are down we cant suspend our accounts or anthing if the servers remaining down after the end of April, when the may billing period starts

If that occurs Silvermane, I'm positive they'll extend the amount of time the game will be free.

Edit: Unless you mean the servers remaining down the entire time until the end of April. If that's the case, you won't be billed regardless...as the servers will be down.

I doubt they'll be moving the servers, and you definitely shouldn't worry about any payment concerns. SE hasn't given us any reason to suspect an unfair billing since the game has been up, and I don't think any MMO provider would risk the wave of lawsuits that would likely follow something like that.

The merger wont happen till May when they preform the update that was supposed to happen about this week. They will not bill for a service in which you can not you for that would be illegal.

Actually I'm pretty sure they removed the merger from the update because of this, as well as moving it to May. The merger will likely happen in the next update after that.

I find this interesting because, how did they not know that the big one that hit them was coming? I find this very hard to believe that not one siesmoligost in there country happened to not notice this pattern. I do understand that natural disasters are very unpredictable, but at least a slight thought that this could possibly happen. What pattern? The US has had 54 3.0+ earthquakes in the past 7 days alone. Now that counts the whole US, but also only over 1/4 of the time, so it seems like it'd be a fairly normal rate. How many earthquakes a month does Japan normally have?

That would be a good reply if it wasn't for the fact the US is like 30X the size of Japan. So stating the fact the US experienced these they could be spread acrossed the whole country, while Japans may have been acrossed the whole country, the country is only the size of California. And to the question about how many they have normally I do not know. And for the fact you did not see the pattern shows me you do not understand seismology, not being rude just stating a fact.

Even if they had known (impossible to be certain), what could they have done? There wouldn't/isn't a way of determining where the earthquake would hit. Where would they evacuate to? Relatively impossible (and silly) to evacuate an entire country.

I am not arguing with that, it is a very stupid to assume they would know the EXACT location where the earthquake would hit at. But I do not think it would be stupid to have them take precautions before hand, I.E. turning of the reactors, or having a ready to go plan for when it did happen instead of taking 2 1/2 days to respond to the disaster.
