Please don't mix Canada in your fights with ppl here.... we are very heartfelt people and I'm sad to see that you think like that of us :(
First, we never experienced REAL earthquakes or natural disasters here or anything like that and yes, I do really feel lucky about that. We, from Québec and most parts of Canada, are the first to reach out to the world when in need...
Don't judge a whole nation by one person speaking. We are a peaceful country...
And, by the way, is this guy even a Canadian ? O.o
And, Umbrion, hockey is 80% USA teams, but 90% canadian money, thanks to Bettman. But I' m off topic, I know. Just wanted to say. So theorically, yes, shutting down hockey in Canada will be a major disaster for that sport. She had a very good point considering it strickly on the economical side of it.... all the money incomes are from Canadian teams.
Thanks for quoting my post Marivell...was beginning to wonder if anyone noticed there was some POSITIVE NEWS on the situation there....

lol not only did I quote it, but I even looked at the reactors status.... seems they got the control back....
Do you happen to have news about the breech in the #4 reactor's roof? I don't see any mention of it on their webpage :/
Not a lot of info just yet. They held a conference and said they were going with it being a hydrogen explosion. News reports that the fire is no longer visible, so I guess they have it under control now. Stinks having to wait for the English translations to come out.

Edit: there's a site frrom the UK that's keeping a pretty up-to-date account of what's been going on, including tweets from JP officials involved, if you want to follow it:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...uake-live.html
Think about it.... I have to wait for the french translations here -_- and bad ones, too. We don't have a lot of specialists, here, we only have two nuclear plants so.... most of our energy is hydroelectricity, so I'm not very familiar with that kind of situation.
I guess we now have to wait for another press release, then :)
Actually, the reactors they are refering to that have been safely shut down are at the Fukushima Daini Power Station. They are not the ones that were of the biggest concern. The problems are coming from the Fukushima Dai-ichi Power Station, which are still causing big problems.
I may have missed something in that link, but I saw very little about Fukushima Dai-ichi.
ahh.. good catch.. didn't spot the number differences at the end of the names. just assumed they would be posting about the more important ones, seeing how they've been releasing pressers every 2 or 3 hours all day.
Raist
I didn't noticed yeah... you're right.... :/
There goes my optimism.....
The few they say about Daii-chi is what I mentioned earlier, about the explosion that breeched the roof of reactor #4.... that's the latest official news we had from that plant.
I heard on tv a little earlier this morning that they called in a U.S specialized team... was about time, I think. I hope that altogether they can avoid the worst, now. For the sake of all.
Hang in there, please.... hang in there.
For once, I wish I were wrong and had just missed something:(
Radiation levels spiked rapidly about an hour ago...evacuated workers. Waiting for more news... no more reporting radiation levels in microSeiver ratings (sp?), now reporting in milliSeiver ratings.

as if the earthquake and tsunami weren't enough :(
I doubt this is entirely the right place to ask, however, as this thread is about the server shutdown following the earthquake/tsunami, I figured this would be a good place to ask. Does anyone know if the free from payment cycle in April will be in effect for people who have been away from ffxi for months, upon reactivating their account. Or does this only apply to those who had active accounts at the time of the servers being shut off? I'm on the fence about reactivating when the servers go back up because I can't say I was particularly happy with ffxi at the time I quit (2 weeks after the level cap raise to 80) but a free month would tip things in the direction of reactivating.
On a different note: I hope things get back to normal as quickly as possible in Japan. Both for selfish reasons and for sympathetic reasons alike. I say this in an awkward attempt to make those who are saying offensive things about the situation slightly more aware of the situation and what they are saying. It is quite easy to get irritated over something beyond your comprehension (or control) such as a double-natural disaster because you become so slightly disadvantaged by it, that part I can understand. The part I cannot understand is such people can say such offensive things, knowing full well that they are in fact offensive. I have no claim to say that I, personally, have any clue as to what it is truly experience such a disaster but, at the very least, know not to make a mockery of such a thing. I sincerely doubt that level of thought has once nor will cross your minds, even upon reading this but, I tried, much like you should to be more considerate.
they probably just aren't going to run billing in April, or maybe they'll run it but then credit it back so it clears any flags for non-payment that the system might automatically do.

Well that's mostly what I'm wondering, the actual specifics. From past experience, SE has always done things like "this only applies if you have had an active for the past 3 months". A good example is anniversary ring.
This is just speculation, but I would assume the not being billed for the April billing cycle would only apply to existing accounts, or those people who had paid for the month of March but are not able to play. You would have to ask somebody at SE, but I would guess a new account/reactivated account would be charged for April.
Im so sorry for japans loss, i hope things get better.
some corrections on the radiation levels... was actually 600-800 microSv, but had spiked to 1 millSv and raised concern. Facility was not completely evacuated, a core group is still on-site. Stumbled on an interesting link to a custom twitter page running 3 feeds. Those wanting regular updates may want to bookmark it:

Fukushima Daiichi Reactors 1,2 and 3 have had explosions. Reactor 1 and 3 are the cause of a build up of Hydrogen then trying to release that pressure failed. Those explosions helped relieve pressure on the containment fields and allow them to eventually cool with the addition of sea water and boric acid. Leaving those two reactors with partial meltdowns.
Reactor 2 did have an explosion but didn't blow it's top like 1 or 3 and thats where the majority of the concern resides. Because the explosion wasn't similar it may have damaged the containment field and because pressure level have dropped within the core it is believed that a full meltdown that has occured and the addition of sea water and boric acid are failing because the core is too hot for the amount of water being added.
INES level is now to be believed to be level 6 "Serious accident" making it the second worst nuclear disaster within the plant but not the first level 6 disaster
The only thing to have happened to reactor 4 are two fires but that reactor was shutdown, as well as reactor 5 and 6, for safety inspections the day prior of the earthquake. Those reactors would be safe from any meltdown.
Another quake detected...plant 1 evacuating more...man.. these guys just can't catch a break over there....
Raist
But it looks like the fires in Reactor4 may be where the spent fuel is stored which can be just as hazardous.
found an online stream of NHK world news with english translation. It may be a bit delayed reporting, but some may be interested in following it, so thought I'd pass it along as well:

Thanks for all the links and updates Raist
"players will not be billed for any PlayOnline service throughout the April billing cycle."
Think new or old you aren't gonna be paying for that month.
.. and really guys.. we can turn to any new channel to find out whats happening.. you don't have to repeat it here word for word.
You don't need to be a troll either ... but you are
yeah..hoping to get more people more aware of what they are really going through over there...hoping it will cut back on some orf the whining thats running rampant here. Started a thread in the general forums with the links I've been checking on periodically myself. If I find more I'll just add them there. Maybe the mods will sticky it.

[Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XI FORUM Guidelines.] FFXI's servers are located in Japan, a country that has just had a large percentage of it's lands devasted by 3 disasters in the blink of an eye, Earthquake, Tsunami and now facing the second biggest Nuclear power plant crisis in earth's history,
[Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XI FORUM Guidelines.]
Although it saddens me to think about what the people of Japan are going through I for one am glad that the centre containing the FFXI servers was NOT destroyed along with so many lives, therefore the game can and most certainly WILL return,[Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XI FORUM Guidelines.]
And to SE themselves, Thank You for the recent update about the world merge and version update, it was good to see that amidst the current situation you're still dealing with the planning and maintenance of FFXI.
You are all in my thoughts and I wish you all Good Luck.
[QUOTE=Gropitou;15683]My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Japan and all those worldwide affected by the earthquake and it's tsunami.
I seriously doubt the game would grind to a halt had this calamity occured in the west coast of the the US (earthquake or volcano). No, they would have put out some cute sympathy article and everyone not in the affected areas would continue on without interruption.
of course it would not have come to stop, that would be another situation. what use has all this arguing, if the server would be in california and the energy crisis in japan they would not have stopped. but it is as it is, the crisis is in japan and the server is too. so we should be thankful they survived and think of the ones that died, got hurt or lost beloved ones. thank god they´ll be back cause this means: japan does still excest and will recover. this should be what we think about instead of nagging they should transfer to other servers. if they could transfer all that data there would be no need to do. i really pray all of you in japan don´t loose hope. we all think of you

Thank you Raist for all your info. Alot of ppl do no realize there are over 5584 dead and still 9400 missing. Tthey have started spraying water on the #3 reactor but all the other reactors are heating up and if the situation does not get better soon there will be further power shortages. Rolling blackouts are reaching as far as Tokyo. S.E. is doing the right thing they are puting ppl before players. Alot of the people of Japan are running low on food and it is terribly cold. please be patient as this is somthing no one saw happening. They need our prayers not complaints.
I would like to send my condolences to the people of Japan, all our hopes and prayers go out to you in your time in need.
Really wishing my <Teleport-Japan> was working so some of us could come over and lend a hand of some kind.
My condolences to the people of japan who have suffered the past week's events, if i could i would set up a paypal donation button for a japanese earthquake/tsunami/nuclear crisis relief fund
