URGENT ISSUE: All Verizon ISP users in Virginia experiencing CONSTANT MAJOR LAG

Ever since the maintenance that expanded server capacity, users with a Verizon ISP in Virginia have been experiencing major lag in FFXIV. The game is borderline unplayable for these users.

This can be seen by a large amount of posts in this Official forum thread and this thread on Reddit.

This lag is ONLY affecting FFXIV, no other games are having this issue. People with other ISPs in the same area are not having any issues. Also, Verizon ISP users outside of Virginia are not having any issues.

I've tried rebooting my router, port forwarding, calling Verizon customer service, and even using a VPN. None of these have had any affect in reducing lag. I am hoping tonight's maintenance somehow fixes this issue but I am highly doubtful. SE needs to get in contact with Verizon in Virginia because 1. this is a very specific issue and hard to explain/get any help from Verizon CS and 2. this issue is ONLY affecting FFXIV.

tl;dr: Something very specific is causing major lag for ONLY Verizon ISP users, ONLY in Virginia, ONLY in FFXIV

Read the sticky that is on top of these forums. If you are pretty sure it is only one ISP, and only one game, then, yeah, read the sticky.

I'm not so sure this is P2P throttling. If so, wouldn't it be all of Verizon having this issue? Not just Virginia?
Also, port forwarding and VPNs usually help alleviate P2P throttling. They are having no affect on FFXIV's lag.

I'm having the same issue. Virginia, Verizon Fios and everything. Frustrating, since at it's worst it makes the game pretty much unplayable. I hope some information surfaces on the real issue here soon.

Long ago I remember this happened to me with Verizon when I lived in Virginia with another MMO; Aion. It reported 500ms ping. It took me 3 months of calls and tech support from Verizon to fix it. The odd thing was the lag happened at certain time and sometimes without pattern. During the working hours, it would report with 50ms or less. I hope you all will find your solution.

Far too many of us Virginia Verizon FIOS customers are having this issue for it to be a coincidence, clearly something is wrong. Calling Verizon CS will get you nowhere, unfortunately, as many have tried. Hopefully the issue will get resolved with tonight's maintenance, if not just keep making these posts. It's the only way we'll get any traction with the issue.

Also, I found this post on the official FIOS forums. It appears some Northern VA World of Warcraft players had similar issues with lag. It could be coincidence, or it could be poorly configured traffic shaping by Verizon (I'm leaning towards the latter). Maybe we should take the issue to the Verizon forums as well, see if we can get some help there.

I've posted about this like 10 times.

The problem is on a TINET.net owned router someplace about 1-2 hops outside of the FFXIV servers.

Crazy rubberband lag that is constant and has no pattern. It is generally persistent but sometimes stops for small amounts of time. This has been posted constantly on these forums. I am a resident of Chesapeake, Virginia, near the border of North Carolina.

Odd enough, this lag started after the maintenance. Didn't experience it at all during the beta. Not effecting other games at all. It seems to be a Square-Enix problem.

I will go ahead and assume it is being taken care of with the servers being down at the moment, but rest assure if the issue continues then I will just have to start releasing videos to the public about this said lag to get it more attention. I love the game, but if this lag persists then I won't have much of an option to not start a subscription. I can't imagine anyone else dealing with this horrific lag that makes it just about unplayable.

+1 to starting after the last maintenance run. I'm thinking Friday personally.
