Dear Arenvald,

I’m sure our past selves would fail to recognize us as we are now. A simple shepherd woman and refugee, now slayer of eikons and liberators of countries. Our paths may have began similarly, yet there were many twists and turns before our destinies began to weave together upon meeting in the Waking Sands, that fateful day. I thank the Twelve every moment they allowed our narratives to be shared, especially in delivering a land rightfully ours from the Empire. How lucky was I to have you at my side.

There are simply not enough words in our common language to describe how my heart brims with pride for you and your triumphs. Forgive me for failing to hide my tears of joy as I witnessed you waving the banner of Ala Mhigo, signaling an end to an era of strife and oppression. In my defense, I’m sure A'aba and Aulie would have done the same.

Arenvald — I am so proud of you. A Garlean “mutt” you are no longer. And should anyone, ANYONE refer to you as such, they’ll have to answer to me, do you understand?

You are more. You are so, SO much more to me. You are a scion, a hero, but most importantly, my friend and I hope more than a friend, if you allow so. No pressure, unless you don’t see me like that then ignore this completely—

No matter where you choose to spread your wings, Gyr Abania or Eorzea, I hope to be beside you, always.

I am sure this letter will arrive far too late and at the most inconvenient of times. If my luck is truly as awful as I fear, years will have gone by before you see the words I have chosen to pen here. But, luck or no luck, I am struck by the urge to write to you.

The day we first met, I will confess that I held no thoughts of attempted friendship. All I saw was an injured Miqo’te, dressed in the hodgepodge gear of an Ala Mhigan rebel, begging for our aid. I knew your plight, but took it as just another incident.

But as you recovered, as we spoke with each other, something sparked. A flare of trust sprang from within me, a flare I had not dared to feel since before the end of the Dragonsong War. After the Baelsar’s Wall incident, I became preoccupied with other troubles. It was not until we met again that my thoughts returned to you.

As we fought together in the liberation, I began to see you as someone more than a friend. I saw someone I could call “sister” without shame. When you asked me to aid you in providing for the orphans and widows, full glad was I to say, “Yes.”

All this foolishness is to say this, Naago: you are as family to me. A blessing in trial and peace. A lamp in darkness and shade in summer. I have truly come to love you as a sister and friend with whom I may share my heart.
