guide to icons?

I notice beside many of the character there are small icons and they’re different colors as well is there a link so I can learn what these mean. I’ve never play any of the Final Fantasy games before so I’ve a lot to learn.

Go into player search, then search conditions. There will be icons in there which I assume are the ones you're looking for, they have the meaning of each there when you hover over them.

One that isn't there is the blueish circle with a rectangle in it, it means that someone has queued for the Duty Finder. Another is the red circle with a horizontal jolt going through it, it means someone is disconnecting from the game (via network issue,) or just logging out. Hope this helps!

Go to Social Lists, and in your party members list click on your own name. It will allow you to edit your search info and clicking on the drop-down box will let you select from and see what a few of the different icons mean.

Aside from those, the movie clip icon means they are watching a cutscene, the Blue mechanical looking one means they are queued for Duty Finder, and the red play arrow inside a box means they are in the middle of an instance.

If the "welding mask" is blue and seemingly facing top left side, it is:
