Yes they are as is clear that you have noclues about what happens in the game.
I suggest you to spend more time farming raw materials and less trolling the forums , I got 3 tell yesterday from gs bots the price is 2,55$ for 100 shards and I areported 2 teleporting bots , if you wanna see them check where you can mine iron nuggets they tp around just below the ground usually you can see just the name and hear when they strike the mining node.

They didn't shorten the amount to get. In fact getting shards out of fish was a huge mistake, from my honest opinion. (Gatherer can find an endless amount of shards.)
We only ever have been able to split clusters and crystals, we never could upgrade them.

shards from fish was an awesome idea. I used the fish to convert a ton of my shards from one to another in order to work on crafts. I was mining alot of earth but needed lightning, I would use alchemist skills to turn em into lightning and wind and the ratios were amazing 2:1 return and the cost of the fish was less than the cost of buying the 4 shards.

Sure it is time consuming, so is gathering and splitting would become.
Inefficient? If there are enough elementals at lvl 50 to counter the spawn of nodes, not really.

Personally, elemental farming seems very inefficient to me. /shrug. But that is just me.

If they are so easy to get . Why gillsellers started to botfarming and sell them for irl money?

RMTs are selling shards and crystals because crafters need large amounts of them to do anything, and there are people willing to pay real money for them. Any level 1 gatherer can get shards easily. The only issue is the amount of time it takes to get the hundreds of shards that crafters can go through.

Hence, this is why I want the recipes, especially the aspect conversion ones from 1.0. It would be a fringe benefit to know that i can be self sufficient if i knew that talking a Malm Kelp and 4 lightning shards I can create 12 lightning shards, maybe 16 if i "HQ" the synth. This might put a slight damper in the RMT world since the demand would dry up a bit, so fringe benefit.

It does say something when the only section of the gaming community that like shard farming is the Vietnamese prison community..

Instead of shoes, can we have a ball and chain for mining and Botany? Maybe an orange jump suit to go with it?
