    Death and return

I'm not 100% on where this should be posted but here seemed like the closest

I am currently bound in Gridania as i'm a white mage and i use it as my hub, my issue is while questing in Ul'dah or fate grinding in Limsa Lominsa and die i'm wandering why on earth i would want to return to Gridania and not just the area i am currently in. I know i could bind to the area i am in but wouldn't it make more sense to return me to the Aetheryte in the zone im in at the very least the main city closest

If you're worried about dying, wouldn't it make more sense to put your return point close to the dangerous area you're in? Touche.

Also, there's no shortage of people ever asking for a raise. As a WHM myself, it IS a little embarrassing to have to ask, though.

Firstly, stating Touche on your own comment is in bad manor. Secondly, who is ever expecting to die, it happens. How does it make any sense at all to return you to anywhere other then the closest Aetheryte if i die in Ul'dah? Why would i want to go to Gridania?

This actually makes a lot of sense. Wouldn't the "energy" from the closest aetherite be pulling you back to life? I think of WoW where you return to the closest graveyard when you die and not just the starting city you forgot to change a while back. I never did like the idea of favorite locations and setting home points.

This is what I would think logically, as well. You'll still have to run back to where you were if it resurrects you at the nearest aetherite - and that can be quite a goodly distance away, depending on the zone you're in.

Don't get me wrong, i don't have a problem with return. It's a nice feature and is convenient, especially at low levels but returning there on death is silly

Completely agree. I wasn't expecting to die in Aero Port and have to be sent all the way back to Ul'Dah. Would make much more sense that you could ATLEAST teleport to one of your favored aetherite crystals if not be automatically sent to the nearest one. =/

I didn't even know that this is how death works here. It's just pure luck, then, that I haven't died far from my binding.

I usually like old-school "punishing" systems, but this is just silly. It's just a meaningless timesink forcing you to watch pointless loading screens as you port manually to the crystal you should have been sent to.
If, for some reason, the cost of teleportation is supposed to be your "punishment", you could just as easily tweak the formula for equipment damage on death instead.

Look at any other mmo released the last decade, and you'll notice that respawn is always in the closest location. Not your home point.

While I agree with the op, I think this was put in place because they knew people would forget and now be forced to spend Gil in order to get back. The teleport feature in the game seems like a way to drain the economy of the game in order to prevent people from amassing tens-hundreds of thousands of Gil which would fluctuate the market. Just ask yourself really, how much Gil do you think you have spent on teleporting since you started playing.

Overall, like I said I agree with OP, but this doesn't seek like anything they'll be changing anytime soon, not at least without 50 or more replies to this thread

All the dev replies seem to be on threads where there are 40+ individuals contributing to it, sad to say.

Doesn't bother me much ... with the number of times I've died and had to return to my place of binding (not many), I've been able to take advantage of a free teleport. I tend not to bind my home point in the zone I'm running FATEs in, just using favored, so this hasn't been a problem to me.

I'm open to adding other harsh penalties for death to compensate for this singular place of binding.
