Question about classes and jobs

I am a level 20 THM and I was reading up on the job requirements for the Black Mage and it brought several questions to mind.

1.) Does anything you get from the archer class actually help the black mage?

2.) Let's say I want to go tank or healer because of instance queues (first time ever rolling a dps in an MMO, not liking that aspect so far) should I just make a new character since I'm 20 levels deep in THM or just grab the class?

3.) Should I hoard bonus points or just spend them?

4.) Is it wise to level my basic class to 50 or stop after I get a certain spell or trait?

1. Raging Strikes (+damage) and Quelling Strikes (reduced enmity) are both useful abilities from archer for black mage.

2. There are pros and cons to both methods. I'd personally recommend sticking with a single character, as you get an EXP boost to combat classes which are below the level of your highest. I.E., as a level 50 GLD/PAL, my level 20-some-odd CNJ gets 50% or more bonus experience. The main downside is not being able to reap the sweet benefits of doing the story or side quests again, but with FATEs being such good experience, I don't see the harm in this.

3. Just spend them. With very few exceptions they should go into your class' primary stat. In your case, INT.

4. Your basic class and the accompanying job are intertwined. That is to say, once you convert from THM to BLM, your THM doesn't stop leveling up. You still gain core class abilities, in addition to Job class abilities from quests.

2. Depends on if you like your character or not. If you do then just learn the classes and fate run to catch them up the the story quests.
3. Nah, spend em.
4. Your basic class and it's job level together so while you're a black mage, thaumaturge will level as well.

2. If you want to switch to a healer, you'll want Swiftcast from THM level 26 eventually anyway, so there's that.

Thanks for such fast responses! I was wondering why people were always looking for groups for FATEs, thanks for that information.
