    Question: Job Level vs. Class Level

    I just became a Scholar yesterday and I was just wondering how levels work with your job. As in, if I am technically an Arcanist with Scholar job stone attached and I play this way until level 40, and I decide to level THM and get the job stone for Summoner, will I still be level 40 if I equip the Summoner job stone as opposed to the Scholar one?

    I guess I just want to know if levels gained are on your class (Arcanist) or your job (Scholar/Summoner) once a job stone is attached.

    Yep, that's what I did actually.
    Your SMN/SCH are tied to your ACN level, which is the one you level when you have the soul equipped.

    So If your ACN is lv40, so will be your SMN and your SCH.

    Yes. You'll be a level 40 summoner as well. Jobs are tied to the class that they are derived from.

    Thanks for the replies! I had a feeling it worked that way, but just wanted to confirm.

    I'd prefer the jobs start back at level 1. I mean, if they add more jobs in the future that rely on current classes, and if someone is already level 50 in the class ......... POOF! You're already level 50 in the job and know instantly how all the mechanics work and everything! An instant "I win!" button for the target audience.

    That's true. I wouldn't mind having to level the alternate job. I mean, if you're level 50 on the class then it kind of kills the fun of getting a new job since you're already maxed out. I won't be rushing to level all the classes available, though, so perhaps I won't run into this anytime soon. I've been playing since EA and I just hit 30 on my main class... ^^;

    Well, not entirely. You're going to have to go through all five job quests to unlock the job abilities and get your AF. Until you do that, you don't really have a functional job, and the level-capped instance fights should teach you something about it.

    I can also add that this scenario already existed in 1.x. Jobs weren't introduced until patch 1.21, by which time many, many players had classes to 50 and thus instantly acquired jobs at 50. This was on top of completely changing the battle system in 1.20, including a complete revamp of CNJ and THM, so these people had also pretty much just finished figuring out how to play their class again.
