The King/Queen of Damage

I saw the thread assuming BRD is the best DD (or has the highest dps, w/e floats your boat) and was wondering...who is the king/queen of damage?

What I could gather (I only have 4x 50s) was this:

Bard
is obviously ranged, can "scoot and shoot" and does not rely on positioning. This makes them easy to handle and has them never interrupt their rotation. Hence, more damage.

Dragoon
does rely on positioning, they can only sorta use "ranged" jumps and throw a spear. They are heavily affected by boss mechanics and having to dodge at melee range. Done right though, they can dish out extreme single-target burst damage (until they have to move again).

Monk
has to refresh Greased Lightning the whole time, making it even worse for them if they have to move. Also: positioning. While this seems very unfavorable, I always found MNK to be extremely fast. I'm not sure what their "rank" among DDs is.

Black Mage
depends on procs a lot. Their damage, judging by health bars dropping rapidly, can be monstrous. But you can also end up casting Fire 10 times without a proc. Even though they are ranged, they are affected by movement just like any melee. I have heard people calling this one the top DD.

Summoner
has to keep up the DoTs! I played SMN from the beginning of 2.0. By the end I didn't like it anymore. Maybe it is the fact that they DoT rather than big bada boom, maybe it is because the pets can be such a nuisance. While SMN has more insant skills than BLM, they have to watch out for their pet (which may die) as well. I have yet to see an amazing SMN. Plus, I believe everyone and their mother has Ifrit's damn SMN book by now.



Assuming all are played well and geared accordingly:
Whom may we crown the King/Queen of Damage?



Bonus question:
What do you think of Warrior DDs? Could they even get close to being a true DD?

I'd crown any dps player who knows how to use their class to the best the king/queen of dps.

Bottom line is, you may have the best dps in the game but if you don't know how to use it you may as well stand and pick your nose.

It depends on what you're fighting? Up against something tough and want to pull out your DPS and show everyone how big it is? Best DPS'er there is Paladin, no question. Don't believe me? Then a test! Go up to Chimera (as an example) and see how long you last without the Paladin. Of course, if you're a Paladin the best DPS for you comes from a WHM or SCH, without them you won't be able to put out the amazing skills to prevent the other-dps-who-are-not-as-good-as-paladin-because-would-die-before-being-able-to-actually-output-DPS from dying.

Either that or Goldsmith.

Yes yes, depending on what and where you are fighting will change the reliability of some numbers.

True but in a movement battle blm I believe will have less dps than smn or any other ones which have more insta cast moves. Also pullin hate of a tank is one thing, getting stuck with the worlds shittiest tank is another, I remember pulling from a tank using bane x.x

DPS should NEVER have to slow down to avoid aggro, this game does not work that way - if tank losses aggro it is 100% the tanks fault
