I run a crew on another game and here's what I'm used to when we get ready to do a run of 30 people or more.
First thing I do is I look at who is applying to come with me on the run as a pick up. I can see their stats and I can job them and assign them their role when they enter. Once the crew is well filled, I have macroed a message that kinda looks like:
___________
If you don't have at least 2 hours freed up please leave now. I won't be mad at you. However, if you afk without a word during the next 2 hours, if you think you can sit at your position and pretend to play it will not work. {This person} is MAA and he will be making sure you are at the job. If he determines that you are AFK, or pretending, you will be ejected from the party and promptly blacklisted, which means that I can no longer receive your applications for any of our runs in the future.
Let's make it a good run! We shove off in 5 mins so grab a drink and potty now please.
_____________
Duty Finder has NONE of these controls. I can't pick and choose who I job, I can't put them on the job that I think will help the success rate of the team. I can't kick people who afk and, even if they stay for most of the runtime, they can say at the end "Sorry guys it's my bed time and I have to leave." They can go and screw everyone out of an hour's play time. If they say anything at all. Many folks will get to the end and having siphoned off enough tomestones for them to be satisfied they'll leave.
Don't think this won't happen, it will. It will happen constantly.
I will NEVER do Crystal Tower Duty Finder because I can already see this happening. If you thin3 CM duty finder is bad, imagine trying to control a run where only 1/2 the people are doing more than auto-follow or auto-attack in hope of free tokens/drops.
I see it all the time but at least most of the time I have a good amount of control. These people have no vested interest in putting up anything more than the very minimal effort in 8 man parties and Crystal Tower will multiply this by 3.
