It is pretty bad. I've seen it all and more in the game so far. From cursing and belittling other players for trivial mistakes, to shunning ps3 players, to refusing melee players in any party etc. etc. I've played dozens of MMOs starting in '99 with EQ and never seen a worse community of players, even in WoW. I'd like to see SE put a few guys on salary who do nothing but sort through public and group chat and permaban people displaying this toxic behavior. Send a message. Loud and clear. Doing nothing about it is the same as condoning it.

I blame the game's direction.
I'm sorry, but when you build a game entirely around your iLVL and the impact your gear has on your performance this is what you will get. Grind at its finest.
There is no choice: you either have this piece in this slot or you suck and are useless. No matter how good you are at playing this hybrid action-RPG of a game.
I come from nine years on XI (most of them at end-game) and I have seen my fair share of "elitists", jerks and what have you. But seeing this kind of situation when the game is barely 1 month old worries me.
I love what they have done with this game, I enjoy the lore and the setting. But some of the mechanics at work here are terrible and need to be revisited.
I look forward to what they have in mind for the next patches, but I'm hoping they'll take a different turn for the future.

I find it funny that there is this much complaining about the community, I'm guessing none of you ever played FFXI in it's prime.

I do worry about the games long term health with this endgame scene. A lot of people were enjoying duty finder and the games content just fine from 1-49 but at 50 it's like a horror show. The "Fun" comes to an sudden stop. I don't blame people for unsubscribing rather then putting up with it. I don't know if this endgame community is the worst ever but it is the worst I've ever seen in my years of MMO's by far.
The blame is laregly on SE as there are other MMO's with cutscene's inside their dungeons but the griefing of new players isn't nearly as bad as it is here. Most likely because those other MMO's don't let the party continue with the dungeon or lock people outside of bosses just for watching. No idea what SE was thinking. I'd wish they do something about it because while I'm lucky to have a good FC to run with many more players do not and I don't want to see good players having to leave because their not welcomed in their own game.

It just feels like End game content was not thought out at all.
They didn't think about risk vs rewards in dungeons (hence why you get dbags speed farming the storyline dungeons)
They didn't think out the duty finder, giving players more options.
They didn't think about providing a nice solid end game set of armor to players at least start with and work from. It would have been great to allow crafters to make a real decent set of end game starters armor. win win for everyone.
And then there is the awful community of elitist players.

Dude, I feel you. I spent a long time trying to make sure I was well geared before approaching new content and watch videos for the primal battles. But the other day I decide to try Garuda for the first time and mention at the beginning that "it's my first time but I've watched several videos, feel free to offer tips" and someone immediately leaves. Of course that screws people over for trials because you can search for new members once you're in. =/
Fortunately I found a shout group, lied about my 'experience'' and off-tanked the adds to learn the patterns. It sucks, but no one, and I mean no one, wants anyone new. It's terrible.

AF sets are good enough to get into WP (even AK, but new players should do some WP).
The problem is the endless grind that is the farming. Really. Needing to do the same instance more than a dozen times is absurd (and you need to do it about 6 dozen times, per job).

No they don't. Implementing mechanics did nothing for Guild Wars 2, it just made people anti-social. People need to grow up and learn for themselves and that is what's going to happen eventually with this community. Those who can't change will leave and play another game.
I am a tank, I tell my party that it is my 1st time. If my party throws me a temper tantrums, gg, I take the 15m penalty. Have fun waiting for another tank =D
