There are certainly plenty of logical, interchangeable and thus acceptable terms used in MMOs. DPS makes sense since that's how FFXIV itself refers to such jobs even if the direct words it is an acronym for do not ("damage per second" isn't a noun), it's still acceptable.

Argument regarding what DD stands for doesn't matter since both are logical (Damage Dealer or Direct Damage). Tank and spank...makes sense but in the context of FFXIV I've been using/seeing "avoid red, make dead" or something similar since it fits the game's mechanics. LFP vs. IFP is something that pisses some people off (though because of the similarity between I and l, most people don't even realize what's being said). Looking for Party or In Flag Position, Flag Position indicating they have their looking for party "flag" up, it's redundant but goes unnoticed most of the time, so it's within the realm of acceptable/understandable.

Terminology that can be figured out by some one the first time without having to be explained is acceptable, even if some people need it spelled out for them (terminology specifically not acronyms that are used in lieu of terminology). Whereas things like "toons" which need to be explained using terminology that already exists to describe the same damn thing can go fall off a cliff. How would you describe what a "toon" is without using the term "character" or the lesser used "avatar"? Even if I dislike "avatar" since it's not an entirely accurate way to refer to one's character, it still can be figured out the first time whereas "toon" really can't within a reasonable degree.
