Seeing as it says DPS in the duty finder and Yoshi himself says DPS, I think it is the correct terminology for this game, stop pretending this is FFXI :P
Personally I perfer caster and melee.
It only bothers me if the terms are different.
Going by OP's example: DPS and DD have 2 very different meanings, and shouldnt be used interchangeably. Pally and PLD are just different abbreviations of Paladin.
I've always preferred DPS to DD. DPS just sounds better and feels more natural to say than "dee dee" to me.
The only terms that really bug me are the nicknames for classes like pally and shammy. Of course, the absolute worst term anyone could use is "toon".

I can sort of see this as an issue for those who haven't played WoW. Having played that and various other MMOs over the past 12-13 years, you just get used to the terminology.
Aetherial Manipulation - Intervene
Repelling Shot - Disengage
Hallowed Ground - Bubble
One Ilm Punch - Purge
Things like that.
In the case of DPS vs DD, haven't really seen that one thrown amount much. DEEPS vs DEE DEE. heh
Tank and spank is about the only one that annoys me.
As long as you understand what they are talking about, what should it matter? Potayto, potawto. Besides, I personally refer to anything you stand in, cone, frontal attack, or otherwise, as "stupid". Yeah, don't stand in stupid.
Ok, so let's have the armor guy slashslash the meanie while us bububumers will poof our shinies at them! Since we're using random, arbitrary words that anybody can understand from the context!![]()
