I use terms like "mob", "dps" (both as a noun and a verb), "tanknspank", and many more ACCEPTABLE terms used in MMORPGs since the genre first appeared. If it bothers you, then you need to get over it and learn to focus your angst on something more worthwhile. Or take up knitting. Either way, I ain't gonna change.

There are certainly plenty of logical, interchangeable and thus acceptable terms used in MMOs. DPS makes sense since that's how FFXIV itself refers to such jobs even if the direct words it is an acronym for do not ("damage per second" isn't a noun), it's still acceptable.

Argument regarding what DD stands for doesn't matter since both are logical (Damage Dealer or Direct Damage). Tank and spank...makes sense but in the context of FFXIV I've been using/seeing "avoid red, make dead" or something similar since it fits the game's mechanics. LFP vs. IFP is something that pisses some people off (though because of the similarity between I and l, most people don't even realize what's being said). Looking for Party or In Flag Position, Flag Position indicating they have their looking for party "flag" up, it's redundant but goes unnoticed most of the time, so it's within the realm of acceptable/understandable.

Terminology that can be figured out by some one the first time without having to be explained is acceptable, even if some people need it spelled out for them (terminology specifically not acronyms that are used in lieu of terminology). Whereas things like "toons" which need to be explained using terminology that already exists to describe the same damn thing can go fall off a cliff. How would you describe what a "toon" is without using the term "character" or the lesser used "avatar"? Even if I dislike "avatar" since it's not an entirely accurate way to refer to one's character, it still can be figured out the first time whereas "toon" really can't within a reasonable degree.

Was in an instance when this happened.

Me: Time for some FAT LOOT AND GILZ!!! :O

Random party member: (Rages about how its gil not GILZ)

Me: (Not sure if serious o.o)

R.P.M. : (Continues to rage about the term)

    Me: -_- (Leaves instance)

Also was denied a raise because said "my toon died can I get a raise? "

Cant believe ppl are term nazis -_-

I had reasonable doubt as to whether this was a troll or not until the toon part. I still have my doubts but they're not really reasonable anymore and I probably would've left after that, especially since you're leaving out the context of how/why you died. Hate me if you want, at least we'd find common ground there and thus aren't entirely different.

Not sure why someone would be upset about terms that they have never heard of. And just because you have never heard of a term, doesn't mean that it's new or wrong.

I don't know where the terms "Pally", "DD" and "DPS" originated from, but they were being used even during the time of DAoC. So these terms probably go back even further.

Oh BTW, in DAoC, Pally meant Paladin, DD meant Direct Damage (as opposed to DOT - damage over time), and DPS simply meant damage dealing classes.

There are always a large handful of people who are the first to shout "THIS ISN'T WoW!" in EVERY MMO I've EVER played.

FFMMO lingo has always been "different" in comparison to every other MMO in the world that calls DD a DPS.
I've entered games before calling tanks {Meat} {Shield}s; and saying "I've got 500 exp tnl" (instead of 2 bubbles to level), and no one jumped down my throat for referencing FFXI lingo in AION, GW, D3, etc etc etc etc....

WoW wasn't the first MMO and did not create this terminology. Just like today's teens didn't create "text talk"... they just think they did.
So the next time someone says something that "sounds" like it's coming from WoW, take a deep breath, remember that there are a million MMOs in the world, and brush it off your shoulder

Although, I will say just this once... the plural of "gil" is "gil", not "gils". Please stop this nonsense.

Toon was a term used by ppl I knew so I followed suit. But to deny a raise over a term is extreme to me. Plus do it really matter how a person died? I can see it now.
    Raisee: Raise plz <pos>
Raiser: Before I raise you how did you die so I can determine if your worth this raise.

Please devs please put reraise in the 2.1 -_-

This is a great idea. I'm going to ask people a question if they want a raise. It they answer it correctly they just won themselves a raise. If not then I'll just ride on off. Thanks for the idea.

I came up with a pretty good idea:

If pally is a term, I suggest we start calling the gladiator similarly. Gladdy. Just picture it!

"sup brah, my gladdy is like totally cooler than you"
"other than gladdy what other class is needed for pally??? lvl 15 healer right"
