This is why the community/DF is so terrible.

From a certain FC recruitment page:

We are recruiting exceptional players to fill future core raiding spots for end-game PvE raiding content. Our officers are experienced end-game players across a multitude of MMO's. Our goal is to level to 50 as fast as possible, get into end-game raiding content, and earn server firsts.

I had a friend who just took up a DF party for Praetorium.

DF put her in with a group (the quote above is theirs) that swore at her constantly, called her the worst healer ever, told her to go back to WoW, and threatened to report her for watching CS. << I kid you not!

She was locked out of boss fights because they ran in while she was watching CS, and she had abuse after abuse heaped on her.

In the midst of this, she was talking to my FC and threatening to quit the game over it - and we spent most of our time trying to calm her down.

Quite simply, Power gamers have ruined DF, and have diminished the community at large.

Obviously the solution to this problem isn't easy, but a good start would be greatly reduce Tomestone drops from CM and Praetorium. Key storyline dungeons should not be a target for dbag speedrunners.

Something must be done quickly if we are to keep decent and good-willed players interested in the game -- otherwise, we all lose.

Learn to be thick-skinned. The world is full of these people, it's not just the game. She should have just left and re-queued after 15 minutes. No one is forcing her to stay with that group

I agree - she should have left.

But that doesn't change the fact that DF is virtually useless for players who want to actually enjoy the game. Her case is practically the norm for certain types of content.

Not working as intended, I'd say.

If you're looking to relax and enjoy the cutscenes, you should probably go with friends. When you use Duty Finder, you're taking a risk of getting people who don't agree with you.

That being said, the people sounded like dicks, but as Jayvir said, you've gotta learn to be thick-skinned if you're going to play with other people. Not everyone is nice.

The community/DF terrible issue stems from the instant gratification of FATE's and the lack of reliable ways to get tomes. Also, the two best ways are in story mode dungeons where new people WILL be slotted into for their first time via DF. Further compounding the aforementioned problems are items with very high costs of tomes coupled with people wanting to rush to the end game as fast as they can. In short, the game sets up these situations 80% of the time in my opinion. The rest are just asshole players.

It is no different to most other MMO communities these days, WoW has basically wrecked the genre by removing most meaningful "massively multiplayer" aspects, setting the level of MMOs to faceroll, and creating a playerbase that largely consists of a bunch of idiots playing for shinies first and anything else like gameplay, social interaction, challenge, storyline, etc a very, very distant second.

Ironically the game with the best community, is also the one that gives the most opportunity for asshats to wreck havoc, but yet it remains the best because it is also a game that virtually forces people to interact & co-operate in a meaningful way (like MMOs used to), is not the dumbed down faceroll rubbish most MMO have become, actually has consequences and gives the players the tools to police themselves. (EVE Online, by the way)

Power gamers have ruined DF because of their must-zerg attitude.

Casual gamers have ruined DF because of their inability to admit when they don't know the fight. I had a feeling it was someone's first time in AK tonight, so I asked and the group said no. First repel, dude gets knocked off and he says "Sorry, I don't remember him doing that."

Jerks have ruined DF because they're protected from retribution.

For all of these things, all we need is a little bit of power to police ourselves, and some level of inter-server community. That's on SE to give us the tools for. Lodestone is a step in the right direction, but without cross-friendlists/blacklists, the system is gimped.

And honestly, a lot of this is on SE. Doing one or two dungeons, Primals aside, as the only fair source of tomes is just stupid, but that's the option we have.

Personally, the whole "I have two relics, I don't care for what you're saying"...like was that even necessary? That doesn't help anything lol, I think I'm missing something though, I don't see where he was being "annoying", just where you literally blew up on him after saying one thing and him defending himself afterwards and then becoming a problem.

    Need more context really.

Yeah....... I had a less than fun run today myself. More passive aggressive, but still there. It honestly ruined my day. Some days I have thicker skin than others but sometimes I have trouble not internalizing it, because in the end, this is a game I play for fun... Not to see passive aggressive verbal abuse (be it directed at me, someone else, or everyone in party).

I am currently going back to replay the first 4 dungeons just to put myself in a better place since I never see this attitude in Sastasha, Tam-Tara, Copperbell, or Halatali, and I rarely see it in Toto-Rak or Hauke.

I think it mostly starts after The Navel (Easy), where the DF groups are more prone to failure. It is also almost always a DPS.. And I have to wonder if maybe the problem is they get so worked up because they have to wait so long, that they start to lash out if things aren't going well and they think they might have to do it all over again. And this just gets compounded when they start re-running for tomes...

Which is sad, because I rarely get instant queues anymore myself, even as healer. It is a pleasant surprise when it happens, but when it doesn't (usually it takes 30-90 minutes) I just keep rolling. (Mostly working on upgrading my crafters in the down time.)

And a failure isn't a big deal to me, so long as we all enjoyed ourselves anyway, but that is hard when you have that one person making snide remarks or being downright hostile... Anyway. Letting go... Letting it go. Most people I come across are nice, no reason to let the bad ones get to me.

I personally think that CM/Prae should have two versions. Story mode with only 50 tomes for completion and a Normal mode with no CS, tougher-ish mobs and the full tome payout upon completion that unlocks after Story Mode has been completed.
