    Crafting Recipes

    Hello Guys,

I have a question concerning Crafting Recipes. When you are leveling fast and possibly missing out on a few recipes, do you have to go back to the Lower Level Leves to acquire them? Having the recipes does make synthesis more bearable. Please..a subtle answer would be greatly appreciated.

Also..when you purchase the Training Manuals for recipes will there be a window to see what recipes you have and the ones you need to acquire with the Leve Quest diplayed alongside for that particiular recipe?

    Hi Felina:

Because the system does not require you to obtain a recipe before you can craft an item, you can attempt any level appropriate synth if you have the necessary materials.

Many people get help with recipe ingredient/ranks from sites such as Yellow Gremlin (http://ffxiv.yg.com) or Zam (http://ffxiv.zam.com). There are also some available through the lodestone

The synthesis screen will show the last 8 recipes you have made for each craft, but you need to do the craft once for it to show up there. The Training Manuals that are purchased with Guild Marks gained through local crafting leves do not contain recipes but instead grant you more skill for doing certain synths.

    Hope that helps!

You don't have to be awarded a recipe to create it. Virtually every recipe can be found on 3rd-party databases like Yellow Gremlin or Zam. The only restriction on attempting a recipe is that the recipe cannot be more than 10 ranks above you. As far as I know, there are no recipes above R50 in the game, so, for example, every recipe can be attempted at R40.

The training manuals are not for recipes. If you do not have a training that a recipe requires, your chance of success on synthesis actions and maybe also your progress and quality gained suffer a penalty. This is small enough to ignore for recipes below around R30 (rank of the recipe, not the player). However, to consistently complete challenging recipes at higher ranks, you must have purchased the required training manual. Many manuals are available from multiple guilds, e.g. Hatting Training is offered by both the Armorers' and Weavers' guilds. It can therefore be useful to focus on two or more complementary crafts to speed the process of acquiring manuals. E.g., if you main Weaver but also do Armorer, you can spend your Armorer Guild Marks on Hatting Training so you can more easily make turbans as a Weaver, while saving your Weaver Guild Marks for, say, Weaving Training.

Thanks guys. I use YG and it's been very helpful. I was wondering also if there was an in-game tranlation program that converts languages like from Japanese to English? I have the game windowed so I can use a yg and a tranlation program. http://translation.babylon.com/english/to-japanese/# to relay messages but I cant seem to copy and paste the relayed messages from a new Japanese friend I met wilst playing the game.

Hm...copy+paste works from in-game to out-of-game I know. That's an odd problem. The text on that website appears normal enough. You may already know about the auto-translate feature: type part of the word or first word of a phrase, hit tab, select the completion. Those words that show up between the red and green parentheses have already been pre-translated in the game. Currently I don't think there's enough to hold a decent conversation, but you can get by partying and trading with it.

Thanks Rob. "That information is really helpful." I'll try it the next time he logs on.
