I had a friend who just took up a DF party for Praetorium.

DF put her in with a group (the quote above is theirs) that swore at her constantly, called her the worst healer ever, told her to go back to WoW, and threatened to report her for watching CS. << I kid you not!

She was locked out of boss fights because they ran in while she was watching CS, and she had abuse after abuse heaped on her.

In the midst of this, she was talking to my FC and threatening to quit the game over it - and we spent most of our time trying to calm her down.


Quite simply, Power gamers have ruined DF, and have diminished the community at large.


Obviously the solution to this problem isn't easy, but a good start would be greatly reduce Tomestone drops from CM and Praetorium. Key storyline dungeons should not be a target for dbag speedrunners.

Something must be done quickly if we are to keep decent and good-willed players interested in the game -- otherwise, we all lose.

I agree - she should have left.

But that doesn't change the fact that DF is virtually useless for players who want to actually enjoy the game. Her case is practically the norm for certain types of content.

Not working as intended, I'd say.

It is no different to most other MMO communities these days, WoW has basically wrecked the genre by removing most meaningful "massively multiplayer" aspects, setting the level of MMOs to faceroll, and creating a playerbase that largely consists of a bunch of idiots playing for shinies first and anything else like gameplay, social interaction, challenge, storyline, etc a very, very distant second.

Ironically the game with the best community, is also the one that gives the most opportunity for asshats to wreck havoc, but yet it remains the best because it is also a game that virtually forces people to interact & co-operate in a meaningful way (like MMOs used to), is not the dumbed down faceroll rubbish most MMO have become, actually has consequences and gives the players the tools to police themselves. (EVE Online, by the way)

I have to disagree on both.

1) she should have just basically gone afk. They've said it's not reportable, she would have gotten credit, and they would get to find out if they are as leet as they think they were without a healer. Normally, i say no to afk, but when abuse is dropped on people, they deserve an afk taking a spot.

2) While i've had some bad DF runs, i've had worse in games without them, and have had some great runs here in DF. Ran last story dungeon the other day, and all but two of us were new. Us new ones said at the start to watch cutscenes if they want, and let the new people learn on their own except to help after a wipe (the boss where you have to run in, then right back out), and it was polite and helpful. Been in ones that also wiped on normal primals close to a dozen times, and we ended up beating it, no rages, nothing.

I do agree the worst behavior seems to be coming from those who have gotten more end gear or runs or whatever. When i see someone with a relic or higher, and full DL, i rarely see them behave well. Especially in lower content like 10-20 fates, or starter dungeons.

Since DF was never meant to be the sole tool to get into party content I think its working as intended. SE has no control over douche bags. But hey coming 2.1 we get a party grouping tool beside DF.

It is pretty much - Thick skinned means you don't let stuff bother you, which is the same as accepting the behavior because "it doesn't bother you" and if you speak out against it or want something to change you get told "grow thicker skin."

Accepting the behavior means you think it's ok. Means it's acceptable to you. Here's the thing, just because you don't accept the behavior, doesn't mean you can change the behavior of that person. So you need thick skin to prevent it from causing problems with yourself. Doesn't mean you accept it in the slightest.
