What Mythology Piece to buy first for Paladin?

I have been debating which piece to buy. People have been telling me all sorts of different things. Is it best to get relic+1 first or an AF2 piece? My armor set up is all darklight with hoplite pants and boots and ring. I have ifrits weapon but I am about to do titan hm with FC soon to get relic.

I want to buy the pants first because it would be the biggest stat upgrade that I can see?

pants is good
but my suggestion is for the Shield+1 first (leave the sword for later)

I have got my hopelite body +AF2 Head, holy shield+1
all darklight gear + accessories with hoplite ring.

the disappointing part of Darklight body was
When you have AF2 Head with Hoplite Body, they are pretty much the same

and i spent a day doing 14 runs for 1400 philosophy points to get darklight body and the result was +1 of defence and i think it was -50 on HP (few VIT less from AF2 head with hopelite body)


Plus, Glowing Shield looks so much better lol

If you have plans of running coil soon, like after you get relic and possibly full DL, then if I were you I wouldn't spend my myth tomes on armor just yet because if you got an allagan piece for the same slot then it would either be a waste of mythology tomes, or a waste of a coil drop. I myself +1'd my sword and shield but only because I wanted the glow.

For PLD, the majority of the BiS equipment is Allaghan. However, Valor Chest is better then the Allaghan chest.

You might want to also consider the Holy Shield +1, thats the BiS shield.

Also picking up the heros ring of fending is a good idea, It's BiS if only because you can't equip two Allaghan fending.

IMO this is not a very good way to look at upgrading. Starting at turn 4 its a massive gear check, and if you don't want to upgrade because you might get an allaghan piece you are actually stonewalling your groups progression.

Get your upgrades, don't worry, and if something drops that you have an AF2 piece for give it to the other tank.

Coil is about teamwork.

As I have yet to reach that far into progression, it seems I still have many things to learn. Disregard my previous statement, upgrading to AF2 seems like the best choice.

@OP you should probably get the pants if it provides the most stats.

While I haven't done Coil yet (I am pretty much ready for it, just have to look for a group), I would just upgrade your relic weapons and go from there. This is mainly because for Paladin, the relics are cheaper to buy since the cost is separated to 600 and 300, and therefore you can get them a week sooner.

Based on what i had already on my toon before i got 495 tomes of mythology, i went with AF2 feet and this is my gear.

Relic Sword and Shield should be your first priority. I went for the sword first since I was only a couple days away from being able to upgrade both pieces and I wanted the extra damage, however slight it might be. After that you can work on the Valor armor.

Shield > Ring > Gloves > Chest/Pants/Boots (depending on Allagan drops) > Sword > Helm > other accessories

If you're doing Coil and using DL Chest/Legs, you'll want to save points to be able to fill a slot if you get an Allagan Helm/Chest/Legs/Feet.

edit: Helm is probably turn 5, so it might be worth getting if you get a chest.

BiS valor gear is the chest, gloves, and legs. Wouldn't bother with any of the other pieces except maybe the head since no one knows if it drops in coil unless its in turn 5.

Relic +1 is a pretty good investment if you are going to be farming coil. Once you hit turn 4 and your dps really don't have time to wait it's nice to have even the small threat and dmg boosts. Gear you will get from turns 1-4. Weapon isn't until the unbeaten turn 5
