What should I be doing in this game I don't even know.

Should I spend all my money to level a crafting skill where I will be unable to make the money back I invested. Or should I farm shards with gathering because all the other level 50 mats are worth less than a level 1 shard.. Or should I get the rest of my DL gear then get my relic so I can officially say there is nothing left to do?

You could just gather your own materials. It takes me a lot longer to level up my desired craft due to materials being harder to find and requiring other crafts, but that means I save a bit of gil by not paying the silly prices for materials and I've leveled other crafts in the process.

I guess it just depends on if you have more money or more time to spend.

Sell coke and pot(ash). Works for me. Darklight is pointless anyway, especially since you don't plan on doing Coil or Titan hm anytime soon apparently. Farm for Myth tomes, occasionally sell a bit of coke, or w/e.

The problem is that you spend too much money leveling. There are multiple leveling paths you can take as a crafter; depending on the market some even give profit.

For instance at one point, boar skin and alumen was low enough in price that one could sell boar leather at 80% profit on my server.

If you rush and rush without thinking, it is no wonder you do not get good results.
