    Invisible Walls

Alright, I understand the occasional invisible wall to keep people from going into places that could glitch you through the world, or to block off zones that aren't yet available. But Squee, we really need to have a talk about your excessive use of invisible walls when there is really no good reason to have them.

Why put an invisible wall here? I can walk around on the ground behind me, and I can walk around on the plateau above me, but for some reason, this relatively gently inclined hill is inaccessible. Want to hop up here instead of going around some crazy canyon maze? Nope! Invisible walls.

    For a point of comparison:

All the land that you see in this screenshot is 100% accessible. Yes, that includes the mountains off in the distance. I can run from where I took this screenshot all the way over to those mountains and I can climb them. I can run around the cliffs and crags, and behind me you can't see it, but there are more mountains and canyons and crazy stuff, and I can actually climb up and down those as well! If there's a hill or a ridge or anything in my way between point A in a zone and point B in a zone, I can go over it instead of being forced around it.

This is why your zones feel claustrophobic, Squeenix. I'm okay with them each being instanced. Fine. But for the love of all that is holy, please stop cutting us off from land that should be accessible.

This game is built in zones. All games dont just keep going. Will run into a wall sooner or later.

Edit: Also Enemies are sorta routed where they run around. Basically enemies will not follow you off the map or they will get stuck or something.

Many glitches in this game still where enemies cant reach you because your inside a Tree for example. Instead of going through objects like in xi they walk around everything toget to you. Also SE doesnt want players to see beyond the mountain where they didnt do anything there. Do you really want to see open empty space?

Its just a technical limitation. Seeing behind stuff that wasn't programmed isn't pretty and can be annoying if you fall off the world.

I think ya'll missed my point, or didn't fully read my post, or something, because I said quite explicitly that I am fine with zones being instanced. That's not what I'm talking about. The area you can see above me is not some out of bounds region; it's in the middle of the zone and there are mobs up there. I can go up there and run around, but in order to get up there, I am forced to go down and around a very narrow path that circles about a mountainous area that should just be climbable because it's in the middle of the freaking zone, please stop blocking these things off with invisible walls.

There's no exploration within zones in this game, and it's very frustrating. Everything is canyons and invisible walls.

Have you thought that it was intential... that they wanted you to move around the world in a certain way?

Looks like the other picture you have is Rift and if that is the case... yea you could climb mountians to a degree or sometimes completely... but there was no reason to do it other than just to say you did. Also in Rift it was entirely possibly to get into situations that were inescapable besides just teleporting out. So I really don't see what you are missing other than complaining that you can't take a shortcut to bypass content.

You've never wanted to just go off the beaten path? You don't feel boxed in with all the insurmountable hills or ravines or plateaus? I don't need or want the game to direct me down the same narrow path 24/7. I want to explore, to see what other views I can capture, what little nooks and crannies I can root out.

(Incidentally, in Rift there is every reason to explore, including artifacts and puzzles hidden away in the mountains that give shiny rewards and achievements. But that's all icing on the exploration cake and not necessary.)

I loved that underwater treasure trove with all the skeletons at the bottom of the lake , doing it made me feel claustrophobic.

I notice this a lot on sand dunes. You can climb all the way to the top but you can't get over the hump due to an invisible wall.

Invisible walls = lazy world design. If they've spend more time, they could put a real wall/cliff at the "can't go off the map" point.

Even the biggest worlds will also have invisible walls. Check in Skyrim, too many cases of this. A game can only be so big before the hardware limitations takes its toll.
