    Dungeon Timers...what's the point exactly?

The only reason I bring this up is because of the Stone Vigil duty which seems to be eluding me. This is the first dungeon I've ever seen an issue with time on and after three groups, I'm surprised my keyboard still works. Not sure if I'm getting a bad run of folks (or maybe I'm just bad myself...who knows?) , but we get to the last boss with about 25 min left and always find ourselves running out of time due to failed attempts. I won't go so far as to say the boss is difficult, but considering some individuals need to adjust to the learning curve, it takes a few attempts to get down. The wipes I do not mind at all (everyone has to learn at some point). However, before we can even get to a point of success, "sorry, time's up..."

So, since I can't seem to think of a good reason for a time limit, what the heck is the point?

It was either boss enrage timers or an instance timer to prevent terrible groups from continuing to be terrible. The timer is there(with a lot of leeway) so that if a group has trouble on something they can work it out and think of a strat before going again, it's there to say "hey if you can't beat this in this amount of time you probably shouldn't be in here and should work on your class/gear more to make it faster, or look up the mechanics for next time".

You didn't reach Amdapor Keep yet, but
That dungeon, even with a full pre-set party, has a varying 20~40 minutes of wait because there are SO MANY people running it that the instance server can't handle everyone at the same time (hell did you see the dev response on how they got the instance servers on a rolling restart schedule because they simply need to clear memory since too many people?).

The timer is there for that, to eventually kick people of the dungeon to give the server a respite. Only the most... Doomed parties end up hitting the time limit, it's a very lenient amount of time too

Not to be "that guy" but you are in a decent sized FC, why not just ask them to go with you? Stone Vigil is well i wont say a hard dungeon but it does help to know what your doing and have tried it a few times, as you are aware at this point. Its possible you could keep ending up with bad groups indefinitely in theory. After several failed DF its time to ask your available support network for help.

25 minutes on that last Boss should be plenty...if you are properly geared that boss goes down fairly fast. The part I see players have the most difficulty with is the flying AOE ice breaths that wipe people out because they do not dodge correctly. For Noob stick with someone who is dodging good and follow them. I found it helps to zoom the camera out...you can most of the time see the dragon in the air to judge how you should dodge although I would still stick to using the ground cues primarily. I have also found the wrong DPS in there can hang you up...I would try and take a BARD...it just makes life easier and they can also replenish MP if your healer needs to spam cures due to bad dodging.

I appreciate the feedback, guys. It'll eventually happen I'm sure. As far as my FC is concerned, crickets are all I get from a group request before I have to queue for the dreaded DPS Duty Finder timer. However, I did just join this past week so I would like to see if it gets any better. The game is great, the dead end that involves me investing 2-3+ hours of effort for what seems like nothing is not...

Pretty sure the timer is there to limit the amount of time you spend in an instance due to the number of instances that can be occupied. Wouldn't be fair to other groups if you AFKed in an instance that could be used for another group.

Imagine the reset day's "Reserving Instance" but every day if players aren't forcefully kicked out.

Try to have a different attitude with it. Think of it like you're improving a little bit each time.

It'll help when you hit endgame bosses and you're spending hours, days or even weeks slamming your head against them.

If you are getting crickets from your FC you need to find another FC. I personally stay away from "large" FCs because they're too big to actually care, and they get cliquey.

That said, regarding the boss for Stone Vigil I think the time limit is sufficient. My partner and I did it with a DF group and while we had some troubles with the wyvern before the dragon (that took a few runs due to bad tornado placement...) we engaged with about 12 minutes and were able to beat the boss on the second run (with about 30s on the clock remaining!).

I'm not overly fond of dungeon timers primarily because the story cutscenes count against them but as others have put... It makes it a hard fail check. It's that or enrage timers and I think this is probably the lesser of two evils.

You are not alone this is incredibly hard and the timer just ruins it more, i just cannot pass this dungeon with Duty finder and these timers, i'm considering quitting FF14 over these ridiculous hard dungeons...being Aussie i'm getting killed everytime in AoEs even if it move...
