Level 28 offhand item?

I just recently hit level 30 as Culinarian and had thought the level 30 Guild quest would give this since the main was able to be made. But no, it didn't happen. I see that it exists in the database since it's up on the market board but no mention of how it's obtained. Has anyone found a Novice's Culinary Knife before in the game?

Is it the same for the other crafts as well by the way? I'm only at 25 in the others.

Probably a level 30 recipe for blacksmith I would assume. From what I have seen armoror makes skillets and smith makes knives

were you able to find the Novice's secondary tools? it seems they cannot be crafted since they are not in any recipes

not just novice, it seems at least the next to levels too. at least for a leatherworkers awl, there are none at all on the marketplace from the novice's awl onwards...

Hmm? The next awl after novice's awl is steel awl and it's available at lv31 blacksmith. :| I skipped the novice's off-hand tools when I leveled weaving since I couldn't find it. 1.0 item maybe?

Yeah, all the level 28 Novice tools seem to be absolutely missing from the game. They're items that you can't convert to materia and add CP to the character. These types of items have come from the guild quests, but for some reason the time they should show up, you're given the main tool instead.

I dunno if Square even knows they totally skipped over this item, but if you're HQing your tools it's moot point anyways. A couple of CP is nice, and they would of had a bit more control than the HQ of the previous tool, but since they aren't able to be HQ'd (as they aren't craftable), they aren't really that special.

So like most of us crafters, I'd suggest forgetting about it like Square did and just wait for the next Tool. ^.^

I paid a blacksmith to craft one for me. I think it required an iron ingot and I was able to provide this so it didn't cost me much.

Yeah, no you didn't. You got the Initiate's Culinary Knife ( http://xivdb.com/?recipe/85/Initiate's-Culinary-Knife ) with that iron ingot. The next craftable knife is the Steel Culinary Knife ( http://xivdb.com/?recipe/112/Steel-Culinary-Knife ). The one the topic creator wants however, which is strangely missing from the game as all Novice sub-tools are is the Novice's Culinary Knife ( http://xivdb.com/?item/2512/Novice's-Culinary-Knife ).

I have been leveling all 8 crafts in conjunction, and these tools are missing from them all. At one point I actually decided to compare stats between the "Novice" offhand on the AH and the current LVL. 23 HQ offhand I was wearing and, minus the CP, they were exactly the same stat. The ONLY thing the missing "Novice" item has over the HQ LVL. 23 offhand is +2 CP. So not really make or break. Though interestingly, the LVL 31/32 HQ offhands for all 8 crafts are still pretty large jumps in stat compared to the main hand. I remember gaining around 10/12 Craftsmanship/Control when I dinged into the 31/32 offhand.

It could be something they removed from the game for whatever reason. Maybe they felt they didn't want to add CP to the main/off hands at that low a level. I doubt it's a coincidence that the LVL 23/24 HQ's have the exact same craftsmanship/control as the missing LVL 28 novice items though.
