Snip Obey Vs Sic

There is really no reason to ever use Sic. If you just start attacking a monster with the Pet not in the Steady stance, it will immediately sic the mob you are attacking. Obey makes it so that the Egi will not use any attack/move other than the basic Auto Attack. Thus when us use Obey the pet will not use their AoE attack and wake up all the sleeping mobs.

I see, thanks! Will put this into practice. And oh, should SMNs invest on their gears when they hit lvl50, and stick to quest gears until then?

One important thing you need to remember is that as a SMN you are not only dishing out loads of damage (probably too much to be honest), but you are also a great supporter. While your heals are not very powerful, they are still helpful to help out if one of your healers is down/oom/chained/whatever. Your heal is potent enough to quickly top you off after aoe nukes, making the lives of your healers much easier. Level up your thaumaturge until you get swiftcast, and instant battle rez your way out of wipes. Don't forget Virus, and even Trisaster can sometimes prevent wipes if your tank isn't an idiot.

I have prevented wipes countless times with battle rezzes and heal support (heals getting kicked from platform by titan, or lagging etc). It's not all about the damage with your class, you're not a black mage. Of course your support will become weaker when you hit a certain content level, but do never forget what you can do (did i mention instant battle rezzes?)

You only pretty much use Abomination Parrot at 50 onwards for the extra DoT timer and auto pew pew!

We use Chicken Nuggets to solo tank CM so we can take 7 dps and 1 healer into CM. Titan-Egi is the shit, imo. Just think outside of the box with him.

Note: Boss number 2 can be... more interesting than usual this way. But just pewpew harder.

summoner, if you want to call it that, is a useful job.

To be fair, the basis of comparison is FFXI, and let's be realistic, it was boring as hell.

I'm not overly fond of the emphasis on DoTs (though I still find it more entertaining than THM), and I'd like to see more synergy with the Egi, but I'm sure as hell glad the class is more involving than it was in XI.

Wrong, the basis of comparison is all the final fantasies with summoner as a playable character. FFXIV is the worst addition to the summoner job as far as summoning goes.

As far as the usefulness of summons in XI goes... atleast they were the focus of the summoners damage when they got to DD, and they looked better.

FFXI Summer was amazing and I was always asked to come on my SMN when I played but I devoted everything to SMN from day 1 when. They made it pretty sick and awesome near the end of my FFXI time. I do agree that this installment of the FF summoners is the worse but I do like it a lot. ^^

Summoner was my main job back in FFXI and as it went on, I got progressively more disappointed with the class. Main healing parties from level 10-75, doing stuff to HNMs once a minute. Then ultimately the only time we get invited to anything is when a party needed perfect defense. On the bright side the job looked cool, but is looking cool all that matters?
