Well having auto-attack will allow you to gain TP in the same way you described (I'm assuming regular attack if one of your rotation actions) or perhaps throught getting which is slow and you would benefit form auto-attack.

My issue with it is that spamming to build TP is the fastest route to being able to use TP actions. TP actions are the fastest route to dealing the most damage possible. Making spamming 1,1,1,1,1 the fastest, easiest, and most tedious path.

This is generally why everyone does this on a melee DPS class and then complains about it.

I don't see why people are against being able to toggle on/off auto attack. You don't lose anything with option. It's easier to implement because it would keep current regular attack actions that toggle on/off via executing the actions and keeps secondary regular attack actions in use this way. Also, you can turn auto-attack off to avoid disrupting mobs with Crowd Control affects so that you don't have to disengage or turn your back to the mob like in FFXI. I think this in turn is making a better system overall than FFXI.
