Just wanted to chime in with my opinion.
I am FOR auto-attack and AGAINST having it toggle-able. I am not going to get into a huge paragraph explaining my views, but I just wanted to register my opinion in case someone from SE is reading these and tallying votes or something.
On Gladiator when im tanking I NEVER spam 1 1 1 1 1, most of the time im bouncing back and forth between shield and rotating abilities, buffing, and curing, I get my 1000TP and I use a Weaponskill, or if im a DD/Mage class I work on Regiments with others, believe me if the system as is right now is used right there is no issue with it what so ever. I find a vast majority of the issues seem to be that the general user does not understand the system hence does not like it.
Well having auto-attack will allow you to gain TP in the same way you described (I'm assuming regular attack if one of your rotation actions) or perhaps throught getting which is slow and you would benefit form auto-attack.On Gladiator when im tanking I NEVER spam 1 1 1 1 1, most of the time im bouncing back and forth between shield and rotating abilities, buffing, and curing, I get my 1000TP and I use a Weaponskill, or if im a DD/Mage class I work on Regiments with others, believe me if the system as is right now is used right there is no issue with it what so ever. My issue with it is that spamming to build TP is the fastest route to being able to use TP actions. TP actions are the fastest route to dealing the most damage possible. Making spamming 1,1,1,1,1 the fastest, easiest, and most tedious path.
This is generally why everyone does this on a melee DPS class and then complains about it.
I don't see why people are against being able to toggle on/off auto attack. You don't lose anything with option. It's easier to implement because it would keep current regular attack actions that toggle on/off via executing the actions and keeps secondary regular attack actions in use this way. Also, you can turn auto-attack off to avoid disrupting mobs with Crowd Control affects so that you don't have to disengage or turn your back to the mob like in FFXI. I think this in turn is making a better system overall than FFXI.
No, please do explain. Why shouldn't people have the option of toggling auto-attack off?Just wanted to chime in with my opinion.

Why are people still using the "spam 1,1,1,1,1" argument?
I'm pretty sure that was debunked awhile ago. If you're a melee class and that's how you're playing, you're doing it wrong.
The JP players are saying- FFXIII "auto-attack" would be good.
Yes, it would be good. It would fit this game. It wouldn't replace the manual input of attacks, it would complement it. It would allow us to communicate without any setbacks.
I can't wait for next week to hear more.
Omega i am not disagreeing with that point, i believe auto attack would help, I am simply stating the system is fine as it is, and most people problems are the fact they do not understand or are to lazy to learn the system properly and are thus complaining.
ffx13 "auto attacl" was dull. The JP players are saying- FFXIII "auto-attack" would be good.

I'm not for an auto attack, as well this game was advertized with having no auto attack. And it should keep that way. But have a more fluid Manual attack such as seen in elder scrolls morrowwind or oblivion. Where you have an attack button, but still can type communicate while pressing it. Also for the different attacks either make it selectable or just hold the button down or do a bit of a combo of buttons for various attacks. Similar to an action game. I personally like Morrowwind/Oblivions combat controls And that have a fatigue/stam system also.
I think what don't help is the keyboard, which are not really built for action. (unless you get a gaming kb)
Auto attack????, what's next? Passive Battle mode? Come on…
You do not need to spam the attack, really, there is a timing to it.
You do not have to press 10 times per hit, once is enough and if you play right and make use of your skill/abilities you will not have to perform the normal attack all too often.
If I play GLA for example:
Obsess > Aegis Boon > Heavy Stab > Phalanx >Heavy stab>Heavy stab>Phalanx>special>Phalanx>Stab>and so on
Then right after you kill the mob you attack the next one with a different pattern because your eagisboon is still down. You adapt to various low defense/high offense/low offense/high defense mobs,
change patterns if you mobs link.
The timing and number of stabs changes with different mobs, some you can stab 2 times before they even strike back, then there you have to react to the mobs special attacks by avoiding the, or canceling them out, you use various healing spells and so on and so on. There are various tactics and flows with different classes.
I wish for more tactical elements, more reaction based input, more active gameplay and not the opposite.
I would like to have more use for the movement during the battle, right now you can avoid attacks by walking out of the attack cone, disengage autolock and run out of the attack hit area or turn your back to your enemy.
It would be nice to be able to have more tactical gameplay that involves movement, hit directions, terrain properties.
A much better Battle regiment and so on and so on…
Reaction based commands would be awesome, something like parry for pugilist on reaction.
Hell, there could be so much done…
Why people ask for nobrainer gameplay…
