    Leatherworking super duper expensive?

Is it just me or those prices on leathers at the AH are insanely high? Is this craft even worth keep leveling? Im currently level 22

You are are correct...I am also BARD and my main craft is LWK and it can get very expensive as without some of the gathering classes leveled we have to buy alot of items at the higher levels of the Crafting Log. Luckily in my FC we have a good group and I can get stuff like Alumen for close to free or some kind of trade for stuff I don't need. I would look into this or you will have not choice but to level Gathering classes or spend a ton of gil to complete your log.
I feel your pain...but there are ways around it.

If you are buying materials from the market board, yes. But if you take the time to farm / craft your own materials, then it's not bad at all. You can sell everything you make for dirt cheap and still come out ahead.

Leatherwork is one of the cheaper ones to level. The reason being that skin->leather->finish good is usually a 1:11 to 2) ratio. Most other crafts have a 2 or higher ratio and additional intemediate steps such as rivets, plates, and/or cloth, resulting in exponential mats requirement.

Also, If you have extra leves to spam, there are many quests that award you skins for turning in 1 item, so you can just buy the initial skin plus aux mats to start your leveling. Some leves even allow you to trade lower tier leather for higher tier skin.

Yeah, but not everyone wants to level all these different classes...some of us just want the ones "we want". It will be worth it becuase we can sell to lower level players and make good gil in the progress.

While it does take a while but, Leveling a Gathering class that Correspond to your Crafting class helps alot. For example Since I took up CRP so i can meld bows, I have to get BTN up cause CRP requires alot of logs and lumbers lol. BTN can get all that so I Level both side by side. Its slow but its "Cheap" going this way.

It's a bit of the damned if you do, damned if you don't.

If you could buy all your pelts at 1 or 2 gill each right to cap, you would be selling Ltw goods for next to nothing as well.

It's going to be too expensive to level or not worth the time. I wouldn't be complaining about over priced Ltw. The glut will catch up soon enough.

if you want to craft you should get all DoH classes to level 15 as the cross class you get can really help

Yeah...you're right...just sucks to slow down and craft...Sometimes it can be soooo boring. Going to have to break down and level a gatherer.

It would be expensive if you buy all your skins from the market, but I took the route of leveling all the way to 50 off grinding leather, from skins I farmed on my own. It took me about a week to do it but in the end I came up making a couple hundred thousand off selling leather, minus the cost of any earth shards used. On my server, all leathers sell regularly between 300gil (Peiste) and 700gil (Raptor) per NQ item. Everything else falls closer to 400 gil or so. Leather has a high demand. Take advantage of that and a profit can easily be made.
