FF14 question regarding the game as a whole

Ok so I remember this game was released and was pretty bad so this one is a remake? im confused because it seems so new but if its already been released once wont the content be the same? are they simply holding on to it to release it timely or is this just a new game with the same title?

They basically destroyed the old world from FFXIV to make FFXIV ARR reason for calling it reborn I suppose so all content is different and new .

"When a child has an imaginary friend, we call it cute and play along. When an adult has an imaginary friend, we call it schizophrenia and treat him with drugs. When many adults share an imaginary friend, we call it religion and get yelled at when we point out the similarities between points two and three."

Basically, they took the 'end-game story' from the first release... And started things in "2.0" form that point on. Makeing a 'continuation' (But still NEW) story for the game to progress threw.

FFXIV: ARR is a MUCH better game than 1.0 was, and the story is one that will grab you and not let you go as well.... i outright HATE the Garland's right now...... XD

War is Hell, and Life becomes a Sin, when young men must fight the wars, that older men begin.

Technically, although the storyline is a continuation from the original version of FFXIV (version 1.0) - it is also regarded as a reboot, as the original version has been shut down and will never be playable again.

Therefore, ARR effectively replaces 1.0 as the true FFXIV, even though the storyline is much updated to compensate for the changed world circumstances (the connecting element was the fall of Hydaelyn's second moon Dalamud, and the release of Bahamut who had been contained within. This event, known in-universe as the 'Calamity', was used to shut down the original version of the game last year, and act as the stepping stone to ARR - as Dalamud's destruction and Bahamut's rampage laid waste to much of the game world, this event completely changed Eorzea's surface and providing an in-universe reason for why the maps in ARR are much different to those in 1.0).

Really, you don't need to have played version 1.0 to enjoy ARR, as all the important information that connects the storyline back to 1.0 is revealed during ARR's storyline.

There are websites where you can re-watch all the 1.0 cut scenes, but it's not really necessary. I did it and felt I hadn't need spend the time. There is a cut scene that plays if you login but don't hit Start. That's the end of 1.0. 1.0 players saw that cut scene when they shut down the 1.0 servers.
