Wired to router, but wifi radio on router and devices lose connection.

I am wired to the wireless router. However when i get passed the login screen and as far as the character selection, I can tell that the routers wireless radio shuts off. I can actually sit here on my phone and watch it disconnect wirelessly from the router. All other devices(laptops) connected to the router also lose their connection. Now whats strange is, I can watch the connection on my phone come back if i alt-tab away from the character selection screen to windows, and disappear again if I alt-tab back into the game. The game is obviously playing with my routers emotions. I have an Asus WL-520gu and I've tried everything short of slamming it against a wall to fix it. I'm not even sure that it's the router at this point...so I'm hesitant to go buy a new one....

Oh, and it does this with no other game or application but FFXIV...
